Manner of Thinking
1 Corinthians 14:20 (NET) Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking. Instead, be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. Aku grew up among some of the most cunning and dishonest people, so this made him very suspicious and untrusting. This affected his relationships with his friends even after he became a believer, and this even affected his relationship with his wife because he was too suspicious and untrusting. As he became more spiritually mature, he understood that because he was in Christ, he was not the one taking care of himself but the Lord. He stopped being suspicious and untrusting. He realized that being that way had not really helped him in life. It alienated his friends and made it impossible for him to enjoy the peace of God. Even though he remained wise and observant, he stopped being a suspicious untrusting person because he now understood that his life was God’s idea and his security God’s responsibility. In today’s Bible verse, we see a very important guiding principle of thinking that every believer should imbibe. We are not to be children in our thinking, but when it comes to evil and malice, we are to be children. We can afford this because we are children of Almighty God. There are revelations that God cannot reveal to believers who are too simple and childish in their thinking and reasoning. But there are depths of peace that cannot be reached by those who are too suspicious and untrusting. God wants us to be advanced and critical in our reasoning because He wants to reason with us(see Isaiah 1:8). He doesn’t want us to be simple thinkers who can be swayed by winds of highfalutin doctrines. One way to ensure we are not simpletons and childish in our reasoning is for us to have hearts that seek knowledge and understanding. “…with all thy getting get understanding” —Proverbs 4:7. Read, ask questions, seek to know. The internet is not meant only for social media but can be used for wisdom and understanding imparting research. Prayer: Lord, give me a heart that seeks wisdom and understanding. Amen. Want to be saved? Click here: streamglobe.org/33 —Abraham Damilola Arigi Streamglobe is nondenominational. Pay Attention to Sound Teaching
1 Timothy 4:16 (KJV) Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. As Linda grew in her walk with the Lord, she realized that the more of God’s word she understood, the more it purified her, and the result was a closer walk with God. For example, Linda used to make promises without fulfilling them, and she didn’t take her words very seriously. But as she continued to learn the word, she realized that she was not living in God’s perfect will by being unfaithful with her words. As she adjusted and became more truthful, she found that the power of God could now be expressed through the words of her mouth. One evening, she was sitting outside near the car porch when her sister drove in. Because of the excitement of seeing her, her sister forgot to engage the auxiliary brake before exiting the car. As soon as she came out of the car, the car started moving away and was heading toward a nearby wall with increasing speed because the place was slopy. Linda simply said “I command you to stop”, and instantly, the car stopped. This was one of the many examples of how God’s power could now be expressed through Linda’s words because her tongue was now sanctified. In today’s Bible verse, we see Apostle Paul telling Timothy that by continuing in the doctrine [of Christ], he would save himself and those who hear him. It was by continuing in The Doctrine that Linda’s tongue was saved and was now made a vessel that could give expression to the power of God. Any believer who does not pay attention to sound teaching will live a life that is not truly saved from the power and dominion of sin. After accepting Christ, It is by receiving the engrafted word that our souls are saved from the entanglements of old sins (see James 1:21). Go into today remembering to pay attention to sound teaching. Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you pay attention to sound teaching and lose appetite for any teaching that is not sound. Want to be saved? I Am Standing At the Door and Knocking
Rev 3:20-22[NET] Listen! I am standing at the door and knocking! If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come into his home and share a meal with him, and he with me. 21 I will grant the one who conquers permission to sit with me on my throne, just as I too conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. From when he was in the university, Ikenna knew that there was a call of God upon his life. He knew he would have to seek God for clearer specifics and details, but this never happened. Immediately he finished from the university, he went for his country’s mandatory youth service corps for one year. During that period, he had several opportunities to seek the face of the Lord, but he spent all that time looking for opportunities for a ‘better life’. He spent all his time applying for jobs and scholarships to various graduate programs in university campuses around the world, but he relegated God’s call on this life to the background. All the while, Jesus was still knocking. By the time Ikenna was 49 years, he looked at his life and all his achievements, but he knew he had missed it concerning divine destiny. He had spent the best years of his life chasing money. We see in today’s Bible text that the one who conquers will sit with Christ on His throne. Christ will rule the entire universe, and the one who conquers will rule and reign with Him on His throne. Many Christians have been deceived to think that escaping hell and making heaven is the ultimate goal, they fail to realize that God did not just destine us to see the kingdom; He destined us to inherit the kingdom. Conquerors are not those who just escaped hell, they are those who conquered life for Christ: they are those who conquered territories for Christ and fulfilled their divine destiny. Go into today remembering that any life not lived for the divine kingdom purpose would be judged to be a wasted life. Prayer: Father, give me the grace to live for you and not waste my life. Amen. Effective Warfare: Children
Ephesians 6:12-13 (KJV) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Joy gave her life to Jesus at a very tender age and got baptized in the Holy Ghost at age nine. Her Dad had led her to Christ, got her filled with the Holy Ghost and also served as her spiritual father. She enjoyed the presence of God so much that she became very famous, going from Church to Church because she was invited to minister. But as she grew older, the invitations began to reduce and they eventually stopped. Before this happened, submitting to her parents (her Dad especially) became very hard; she would not listen to his instructions, “I’m now a big girl and I can order my own ways’’ she thought. Joy prayed hard and fasted a lot, asking that God restore her but she didn’t seem to be heard. It was after fifteen years that she stumbled on teachings about submission and honor that her eyes opened to her failures. When she returned to submission, she suddenly again began to enjoy the presence of God, but she had lost so many years already. Ephesians 6 began by commanding children to obey their parents in the Lord and to honor their fathers and mothers. If you are disobedient to this commandment, it will be impossible for you to effectively engage in spiritual warfare. If you are rebellious to authority, demons will not obey you. You will notice that in Ephesians 6, it is after the instruction to honor and be submissive that we are told about spiritual warfare. Go into today making up your mind to honor your parents and have a heart of submission, not pride. If you are a defaulter, reconcile quickly. Pray this way: Father, I receive grace for submission in Jesus’ name. Want to be saved? Click here: streamglobe.org/33 —Dr. Emmanuel James Streamglobe is nondenominational. Spiritual Gifts and Impartations
1 Timothy 4:14 (NET) Do not neglect the spiritual gift you have, given to you and confirmed by prophetic words when the elders laid hands on you. A young man was praying for several days to receive the ability to see visions because he had seen firsthand the benefits of that spiritual gift. While he was praying one day, the spirit of the Lord led him to go and visit his friend who is a minister of the gospel. When he got to his friend’s house, he saw that his friend had a visitor who was an apostle. This apostle saw him and instantly discerned that he needed the impartation of a spiritual gift. The apostle ministered to him and there and then he received the spiritual gift he had been praying to receive for several weeks. God answered his prayer by leading him to where he would be imparted. I remember the first time I started walking consistently in the prophetic and word of knowledge. I was attending an international conference where certain apostles of God and prophets were ministering. It was during the course of that conference that I noticed that I started walking in the spiritual gift of “word of knowledge”. One of the easiest ways believers receive spiritual gifts is through impartation. That’s why Apostle Paul told the Romans this: Romans 1:11 (NET) For I long to see you, so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you. It is also clear from today’s Bible verse that Timothy received his spiritual gift when the elders of the church laid their hands on him and prophesied. Just like water flows downstream, it is important for believers to be submitted to one another in order for such important importations to get to them. You cannot receive impartation from a servant of God you do not honor, no matter how anointed he is. Go into today remembering that it is hard for a proud person to receive anything from the Lord. Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you humble yourself and receive all the necessary impartation He had ordained for you. Want to be saved? The Hope of His Calling
Ephesians 1:18 (KJV) The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. Being a billionaire, Prince’s Dad deposited millions of dollars into a special bank account for Prince every year on his birthday. He had done this in order to secure a good life for his only child who will at age eighteen be granted access to this account. Prince, however, became friends with a group of junkies in high school who introduced him to taking and selling hard drugs. He fell to their influence because of the euphoria of being high on drugs, partying and the company of women– things his Dad never permitted. Wanting to ‘‘belong’’, he eventually left home, moved in with his junky friends and refused all attempts by his Dad to get him back home. Even the knowledge of the bank account in his name could not get him back. His dad, however, did not stop depositing money in this account as he hoped that he will return home someday, but Prince never did. At the age of seventeen, Prince’s picture and hat of his friends made the pages of the national dailies. They had gone out on a failed robbery operation and had secured terrible injuries while trying to escape. Unfortunately for Prince, he died before he could get to the hospital. What an unfortunate end for Prince! Many however are living like Prince today. They know the love of God and His ability to meet their needs but won’t wait for Him. For them, God is too slow hence, they devise strange methods of getting what they want and thereby abandon God and his plans for them. If this describes you, know that you are being deceived by Satan, and his aim is to rob you of the glory of the riches of your inheritance in God; he wants you to end like Prince. But if you will pay the price of waiting on God today, he will surely give you your inheritance in due time. For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly (Psalms 84:11, KJV). Prayer: Father, I repent from haste and impatience and ask that you forgive me in Jesus’ name. Open my eyes to know the hope of your calling for me and the riches of your glory towards me in Jesus’ name. Amen. Want to be saved? Don’t Neglect Your Gift
1 Timothy 4:14 (NET) Do not neglect the spiritual gift you have, given to you and confirmed by prophetic words when the elders laid hands on you. When Shola was a student at the university, he walked in certain spiritual gifts. He could see visions and prophesy. But after he graduated and got a job in the busy city, he neglected his spiritual gifts and was more concerned with other things. He found that even though he was making some money, he was not fulfilled but felt hollow and empty inside. There are so many lessons from today’s Bible verse that we would have to revisit it another day. The first point is that it is possible for a person to neglect his spiritual gift. Every gift has the attendant disciplines that activate it(fan it to flame) and keeps it active. For example, if a person has prophetic gifts(word of knowledge, word of wisdom, prophecy, discerning of spirits– seeing visions), it is important for such a person to be given to prayer and the ministry of the word. Such a person must be committed to praying in the spirit on a very regular basis. Not being intentional about prayer (long prayers in the spirit) is functionally the way to neglect the prophetic spiritual gifts. Some other gifts require that you be a minister of God’s presence and dwell constantly in communion with the Holy Spirit. Songs and worship are key to this. It is important for the believer to understand his spiritual gift and be given to its attendant spiritual disciplines. Even though Shola was now making some money, he lived a miserable defeated life because he ignored his spiritual gifts and disciplines and started running after money. Go into today remembering that spiritual gifts were given to help enhance your fruitfulness. It is unwise to ignore them. If you have ever walked in a spiritual gift even once, it is because that gift has been given to you. It is incumbent upon you to learn the disciplines that activate it. Prayer: Lord, please activate every gift that you have given me and help me never to neglect them. Amen. Want to be saved? When We Give (This Matter of Giving)
Philippians 4:18 (NET) For I have received everything, and I have plenty. I have all I need because I received from Epaphroditus what you sent – a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, very pleasing to God. It is important to stress that the believer’s motive in giving is very important. A believer must never treat giving as a money-doubling exercise for any reason. Rather meditate on the following that happens when we give and let love, faith, a sense of responsibility, a need to communicate honor and compassion motivate your giving. When we give to God, we are performing an act of worship and service to God, we are communicating thanksgiving and appreciation while also honoring Him. When we give in God’s house and to God’s work, we are contributing to the prosperity of God’s work and playing a part in having needs meet (Exo 25:1-9; Acts 2:44-45). When we give to parents, spiritual leaders, etcetera, we are communicating honor and regard. This is pleasing to God. (Matt 15:4-6; 1 Tim 5:17-18) When we give to the poor and the needy, we are communicating love, compassion, and mercy (1 John 3:17). We must always be willing to give to those who cannot repay our kindness, God himself delights in such. We also exercise faith when we give sacrificially. We don’t just do so by giving to receive, but rather by giving despite mitigating circumstances because we believe that God who supplied that resources will yet supply again (1 King 17:7-16). We cause thanksgiving to abound unto God when we give. In today’s text, we see how that the giving of the church in Philippi to Paul was recorded as “a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, very pleasing to God”. Here’s how 2 Corinthians 9:11-12 puts it, “You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous on every occasion, which is producing through us thanksgiving to God, 12 because the service of this ministry is not only providing for the needs of the saints but is also overflowing with many thanks to God.” Now note, God rewards our giving, it is part of our labor of love and God is not unfaithful to forget them. However, let love, faith, honor, mercy and a sense of responsibility lead your giving and not profiteering. That’s the godly way to go. Say this: I am a giver, God is my source, he multiplies grace unto me and I always abound unto every good work. Want to be saved? How to Give (This Matter of Giving)
2 Corinthians 9:7 (NET) Each one of you should give just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, because God loves a cheerful giver. Nicholas was around when the youth pastor was counseling Tessy on the matter of giving, at a point he couldn’t help but butt in. “I’m sorry sir”, he said, “But I can’t help but wonder, is this not too much? I mean, if I give to all the people you have mentioned, what will I have left? My income is limited, and I still have bills to pay?” The pastor responded: Well, if you will just allow me to finish, you see, the Bible not only tells us whom and to what we can give to, it also lays out for us how we can give and I will attempt to lay them out for you as briefly as I can. Plan Your Giving: Don’t be an impulsive giver, that rarely comes from a place of thoughtfulness and deep convictions, it mostly comes from emotions and whipped up sentiments. Remember our text says ‘…just as he has decided in his heart’. So, learn to sit down and plan what you will be giving, to what and to whom. Give According to Ability: ‘… to finish what you started, so that just as you wanted to do it eagerly, you can also complete it according to your means. 12 For if the eagerness is present, the gift itself is acceptable according to whatever one has, not according to what he does not have’ (2 Corinthians 8:11-12 NET). Enough said. Give Bountifully and with Simplicity: The Bible teaches us in 2 Cor 9:6 to give generously. Be as generous as you can in your giving, remembering that it is God who supplies the eater with bread and the sower with seed. Also, giving the Bible way is giving with simplicity. Don’t be flamboyant in your giving; don’t make a scene, it just glorifies you and not God. Give Willingly & cheerfully: God wants our giving to come from our heart. Exo 25:2 “Tell the Israelites to take an offering for me; from every person motivated by a willing heart you are to receive my offering” (NET). Your heart is very important in whatever we do to and for God. It’s better not to give at all than to give grudgingly, however, it is best to give from a willing and cheerful heart (2 Cor 9:7) Give Sacrificially: In all of this, never forget that there is a place for giving sacrificially, God notices our sacrifice when we give sacrificially. Jesus made special mention of the widow who gave all she had, her giving didn’t look like much on face value, but before God it was great (Mark 12:41-44). Also, Bro Paul commended the Macedonians of whom he said, “For I testify, they gave according to their means and beyond their means. They did so voluntarily” (2 Cor 8:3 NET). Go into today determined to give bountifully as the Lord gives you the ability. Prayer: Lord, help me to give acceptably and walk in the attendant blessings. Want to be saved? This Matter of Giving: Why Them?
Mat 22:37-39 (KJV) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself Tessy has a dilemma. She is a young believer who came to Christ not so long ago. She is a regular income earner and prior to her new life in Christ, she spent her money however she chooses. However, now that she is a believer, based on the teachings she has heard and the conviction of the Holy Ghost in her heart, she has come to know that there is a way God wants her to spend her money. So, one day after the service, she approached her youth pastor asking how God would have her give. So, he answered her: Firstly, you must understand that all our good works are to be done as unto the Lord. Meaning that, whatever we do, we must do it seeing it as a service to God. And again, when it comes to knowing God’s mind concerning any matter, the word of God is our surest guide. Parents: It is God’s precept that children should honor their parents (Exodus 20:12; Ephesians 6:1,2). The Bible also teaches us that giving is part of the display of honor (Matthew 15:4-6; Prov 3:9), therefore, in honoring our parents, we must learn to give to them as well. To the Work of the Ministry: Right from the building of the tabernacle (in Moses’ time) right down to the building of the temple in Solomon’s time, the people of God were required to give to it (Exodus 25:1-9; 1 Chron 29:1-9). Some of Jesus’ followers also gave to his ministry (Mark 15:41). It is a mark of irresponsibility not to support the gospel in your local assembly, if your heart is there, your treasure should also. To Ministers of The Gospel: God has ordained it that ministers of the gospel are entitled to be taken care of by those they minister to. Just like Levites were apportioned a part of the temple sacrifice for their sustenance, likewise even the new testament ministry gifts (1 Cor 9:6-11; 21 Tim 5:17-18; Luke 10:3-7). This might rattle a few cages, but it regardless remains the truth. To the Poor: The Lord is particularly interested in the welfare of the poor, hence he has ordained that we give to the needy as much as lies within our abilities (Prov 28:27; 19:17) Mark 14:7 and John 13:26-30 suggests that Jesus had such a practice of giving to the poor. Fellow Believers and Others: It is God’s will that we do good to and give to fellow believers as often as we have the opportunity to do so (Matt 25:34-40), He also wants us to do good to all men as much as it lies within our power (Gal 6:10) Go into today with the assurance that God gives bread to the eater and seed to the sower and he will multiply all grace towards you, so that you having all sufficiency in all things, will always abound unto every good work. Say these words: God is my source, I am a giver, grace is multiplied towards me and I abound unto every good work. Want to be saved?
