Motivation for Holiness
1 John 3:2-3 (NET) Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever it is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is. And everyone who has this hope focused on him purifies himself, just as Jesus is pure). When I was a child, I heard a great deal about the second coming of the Lord Jesus. Christians used to ask themselves questions like this: “are you ready for the coming of the Lord?”. Because of this consciousness, unlike today, there was a real difference between believers and unbelievers. There were many true conversions to the faith because, even though the world didn’t like us, our light was shining and many(including several Muslims) were being convicted and saved. But something happened along the way, and doctrines that downplayed the coming of the Lord and emphasized more on material prosperity became mainstream among Christians. The results of that distortion are evident before our eyes today. Purity and holiness are almost dirty words in many Christian communities today. From today’s Bible verses, we can see that our hope focused on the coming of the Lord is a motivation for staying pure. If you take away the Blessed Hope of the believer, you have taken away his power and motivation to be holy. Most scriptures that admonish us to live pure and holy lives do so within the context of the expectation of the Lord’s coming. Here is another example (the first being today’s Bible Text): 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NET) Now may the God of peace himself make you completely holy and may your spirit and soul and body be kept entirely blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Also, read Titus 2:11-13. Go into today remembering that the coming of the Lord is the blessed hope of the believer. Words are too weak to express the glory that would be revealed in us when the Lord appears. Everyone Who Has this Hope
1 John 3:2-3 (NET) Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever it is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is. And everyone who has this hope focused on him purifies himself, just as Jesus is pure). One of my brothers was describing something another supposed Christian brother did. This supposed Christian brother’s conduct was so wicked and selfish that my brother said if people with this kind of character enter heaven, they will spoil heaven. What he said sounded funny but it sent me into deep thinking and meditation on the scriptures. Hitherto, I had been learning that the Lord Jesus came to prepare for himself a church that would be cleansed of all impurity and able to inherit His kingdom(Ephesians 5:27, Rev 19:8). I had also been learning that the purification and transformation of our souls happen through the renewing of our minds by the word of God (Romans 12:2). Would our souls be transformed during the resurrection? Would the resurrection affect the state of our hearts or simply change our bodies? Child of God, one of the most significant privileges we have right now is the opportunity to allow the Holy Spirit and the word of God to purify us and change us into the fullness of the stature of Christ. The more like Christ we become, the closer we will be with Him in His eternal kingdom. Remember, even though all the saints will be in His kingdom, not everyone will be at the same level. In every kingdom, there are those that sit in the same room with the king to rule with him because of their high level of influence, and there are those that may not get to see the face of the king in months because they occupy lower positions in the kingdom. Our Lord Jesus talks about those who would be called great in the kingdom and those who would be least in the kingdom (see Matthew 5:19). Whether you will be great or least in the kingdom is determined by your commitment to sanctification. Go into today remembering that the process of purifying ourselves makes us more like Christ [in character and nature]. If the resurrection will automatically do this, we would not be admonished to do this in anticipation of the resurrection(see John 2:3, Titus 2:12-14, 1 Thessalonians 5:23). —Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Bible Plan: Psalms 66-68 (In Today’s Audio) Streamglobe is Interdenominational and nondenominational. Freedom In Christ
John 8:31-32 (NET) Then Jesus said to those Judeans who had believed him, “If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Mr. Allen had some mutated dogs that could never grow from being puppies. They were mutated to remain puppies all their lives. But one day, the dogs started a diet that began to annul their mutation. Because of this, they began to steadily grow into adults. But while puppies, Mr. Allen tied each of them with seven strands of knitting wool. And they remained bound that way. But as they started to grow, one day, some of them realized that they could now break free by virtue of their size and increased strength. The wool now seemed like a joke. All they had to do was to simply keep walking and the rope broke. But there were many of them who were still afraid of the power of the threads because as puppies, they had tried to break free to no avail. They were actually now bound by the limitation of the past. And because of this, they remained in bondage even though they had enough might(strength) to break free. The dogs that got freedom got it because they came to the knowledge of the truth. This truth was that they could now walk away free. If you are a disciple of Christ who follows His teachings, this is the truth concerning you: you have grown out of the power of sin. Sin no longer has power over you because we are now under God’s grace. This grace teaches us the word of God and causes us to grow out of the smallness that made sin dominate us (see Titus 2:8-9). Go into today with this truth. Prayer: Father, please help me grow into the fullness of Christ. Amen.Want to be saved? Maturity & Spiritual Warfare 2
Ephesians 5:15-16 (KJV) See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Before Segun understood that his conduct was important if he was going to successfully engage in spiritual Warfare, he was a dishonest man whose life was plagued with suspicion and lack of love. His relationship with his wife left much to be desired. His neighbors didn’t like him because he was very suspicious of them and behaved awkwardly around them. But as he began to apply himself to God’s word, he realized that he needed to walk circumspectly. Being circumspect means being careful to consider all possible consequences of one’s words and/or actions. One of the major attributes of the wise is that they are circumspect. For Segun, one area he knew he needed to be more circumspect was with the use of his words, especially with his wife. As Segun made the appropriate adjustments in the way he spoke and the things he did, he realized that his spiritual authority grew. He observed that he was now no longer afraid of many things he used to fear. Yesterday, we saw that one of Satan’s most potent weapons against believers is accusations. Witchcraft is a demonic craft that would be totally useless without accusations. As we live spirit-led lives (being circumspect and walking in love), we drain out every accusation the devil may have been using against us. As a result, when we resist the devil, he would have no choice but to flee (James 4:7). Go into today remembering that all authority in heaven and on earth now belongs to Jesus. As you abide in Him and become more like Him, you will find that the devil has no authority or power over you and your sphere of influence. Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me to become more like Jesus every day. Amen. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In 365 Days: Exodus 37-40 Streamglobe is Interdenominational and nondenominational. Maturity & Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:10 (KJV) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Segun was a prayer warrior because he understood the wickedness of the wicked and how the power of God could put them in check. He was from a village known for its notorious witches. His stepmother was a witch and he knew the battles he had to fight in order for him to live a near-normal life. But Segun was not totally free. He lived from battle to battle, struggling from one attack to another. No one prayed like him in the church, yet no one was afflicted like him. He used to tell himself that he had so many attacks and defeats because of his family background, but when he discovered that his pastor, who lived a free joyful life, was from a more wicked background than him, he started asking questions he should have been asking a long time ago. Segun discovered that even though he exerted himself a lot in spiritual Warfare, he was low on spiritual authority and had few real victories because of his conduct. He was a suspicious, unloving, proud, and self-centered person. Because of this, the enemy had many potent accusations against him that weakened his spiritual battle formation. Today’s Bible verse begins with the word “finally”. The subject of spiritual Warfare was the last one apostle Paul would share with the Ephesians. He shared it just after sharing about spiritual maturity and Christian conduct. A man whose conduct is questionable cannot triumph in spiritual Warfare. The devil is not so powerful against the believer who is mature and whose conduct is blameless. One of the devil’s most potent weapons against the believer is accusations (see Rev 12:10-11). The cleansing of the blood of Jesus and the transforming power of God’s word is why the saints will overcome Satan (Rev 12:11). The word of God transforms us to become like Christ, thus making us spiritually mature. Any believer who doesn’t give priority to the word of God may not attain the required level of spiritual maturity to successfully execute spiritual Warfare. Go into today remembering that as you become more like Christ in nature [and character], you become spiritually invincible. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In 365 Days: Galatians 4-6 Streamglobe is Interdenominational and nondenominational. Being Fruitful
John 15:16 (NET) You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that remains, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. When the Lord Jesus came to the world over 2000 years ago, apart from His disciples, the Jews did not believe that he was the messiah because they expected the messiah to come and take over the kingdoms of this world and establish his government in Israel (Acts 1:6, Mark 14:61, Matt 11:3). The Lord did not do that in His first coming, but He will in His second coming(Rev 20:40, Daniel 7:27, Matthew 19:28, Dan 7:18, 2 Tim 2:12). One of the reasons for this was that the Messiah was not going to reign and rule alone. He would need princes that would reign with him, and at that time, He didn’t have anyone He could commit to(see John 2:24). You see, the fall had so damaged human nature that the Lord needed to redeem and transform man in order for man to be fit to inherit His kingdom. God has expectations in saving you. When you fulfill these expectations, you are fruitful. The power to be fruitful does not come from you but from the Lord. As long as you abide in Christ and let His word abide in you richly, you will be fruitful. I have seen many who believed in the Lord Jesus but went back to the world. Such did not remain in Christ. Abiding in Christ means abiding under His authority, and also abiding in the Church which is His body. Believers who have forsaken the gathering together of the saints and do not want to be accountable to anyone have stopped abiding. Go into today remembering that the biggest measure of your fruitfulness is the degree to which you have been conformed to the image of Christ. Becoming like Christ is the object of Christianity. Those who will rule and reign with Christ are those who have become like Him. The purpose of the Church is to train and equip us, so we become mature; and grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ (see Ephesians 4:13-14) Prayer: Lord, help me be like Jesus indeed. Help me truly forsake the Adamic nature. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In 365 Days: Luke 7-8 Streamglobe is Interdenominational and nondenominational. Immune to Judgment
1 Corinthians 2:15 (NKJV)But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. When the Lord said ‘judge not’ in Matthew 7:1, He was talking to His disciples, and the context was a Christian disciple judging another disciple. That Sermon [on the mount] started in Matthew 5 after His disciples came up the mountain to meet Him (see Matt 5:1). In the sermon, He instructed them not to judge one another, that was why he said if you see a spec in “your brother’s” eye. the context here is “your brother” not “your neighbor”, indicating that He is talking to disciples. Today’s Bible verse reveals that even though the spiritual man has the ability to judge all things, no one has the ability to rightly judge him. Indeed, those who would be counted worthy to inherit the kingdom of Christ and reign with Him would also judge all men and even the angels (see 1 Cor 6:2-3). But even they are not qualified to judge each other correctly, no one is. The only Person able to judge them is their Lord and master (see Rom 14:4). This applies to spiritual believers and not carnal believers because walking in the flesh excludes a believer from immunity to judgment and condemnation (see Rom 8:1 in KJV, Rom 8:13). Before Satan can afflict anyone, he must first have grounds for judgment and condemnation against him. These grounds do not exist for the spiritual man (whose life is ruled by the Holy Spirit). Even if a spiritual man falls, he rises again and does not stay there and create grounds for judgment. Go into today remembering that there is no judgment and condemnation for the spiritual man. The only thing that can make him walk in a way deserving of judgment is when he becomes carnal by continuing to unrepentantly walk in the flesh. Prayer: Lord, please help me to always walk in the Spirit. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In 365 Days: Jeremiah 47-52 Streamglobe is Interdenominational and nondenominational. Serving the Lord: Key to Divine Health
Exodus 23:25 (KJV) And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. Dante was so sickly that the health insurance company sent him an email saying that they could no longer keep up with his medical bills and he would have to upgrade his insurance plan. After he accepted the Lord Jesus, he learned the word of God and realized that the Lord would bless his food and water and take sickness and disease away from him. This was yet another motivation to serve the Lord. He became committed to the service of the Lord in his local church. Because of this, he had boldness and faith that the Lord was going to preserve him from his frequent illnesses. As he continued in the word and refused to change his confessions of faith, he found that he was no longer a sickly person. He now enjoyed divine health. For Dante, serving the Lord was what preserved his life from untimely death. Today’s Bible verse contains a covenant promise of God. As we commit to serving the Lord in truth, He will bless our food and water and take sickness and disease away from us. It is possible to think you’re serving the Lord when indeed you are not. Serving the Lord must be done at His terms and in His way. Go into today remembering that one sure way to enjoy divine health is to be sure that you are serving the Lord in truth. A person serving his belly but who thinks he is serving the Lord may not be able to benefit from the covenant promise in today’s main text. Prayer: Lord, teach me to serve you acceptably. Luke 1:74-75 (KJV) That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. Susan never knew her father. Her grandmother who also used to be a prostitute was the only family she had. Even though they lived in the most affluent nation on earth, her family was so poor that they had to live on the generosity of strangers, prostitute themselves, sell drugs, and do other illegal things to survive. Susan had accepted the Lord Jesus but was not yet truly free from the power of curses in her bloodline because she did not fully understand the gospel and was not committed to living for God. She started experiencing true freedom when she rededicated her life to the Lord and understood that living for God and serving Him is the only way to truly appropriate our freedom in Christ. We see in today’s scripture that when we are delivered from the hands of our enemies, we are to serve God in holiness and righteousness all the days of our lives. Being committed to serving the Lord is the only guarantee of continued freedom in this present world. If you are not a serving son, you are a prodigal son. The prodigal son was born free but became worse than a slave in the land of strangers. It is time for all prodigal sons to come back home. Isaiah 54:17 (KJV) says “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord”. Do you notice that the promises in the verse above are a heritage of those who serve the Lord? Curses are spiritual judgments, but only those who serve the Lord can effectively condemn them. Are you serving the Lord or are you serving mammon? Go into today remembering that you were set free from the slavery of darkness to the glorious kingdom of God. When we commit ourselves to serving the Lord, we commit ourselves to the protection and power of heaven. Believers who are not committed to serving the Lord are cheating themselves. Man’s Greatest Weakness
Romans 3:10-12 (KJV), “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” God created man in his image and likeness, he intended that man will remain forever dependent on him, but man lost his connection with God and was thrown out of the garden of God to wander and fend for himself. This left a vacuum, a vacuum that no man, god, or religion has been able to fill. Man does not know how to find God, he does not know how to be holy, nor does he know how to please God. God being merciful, sent his son Jesus Christ to show us the way to the Father (God). “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 KJV. Then, he sent us his spirit, the Holy Spirit so we can be Holy. “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; [17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. [18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” John 14:16-18 KJV So, both the problem of finding and pleasing God and my being holy has all been solved. It is now your responsibility to accept Jesus Christ as your savior and to rely on His spirit to help you please him. Go into today knowing that you can be holy and you can be pleasing to God if you submit to the spirit of God; the Holy Spirit. Prayer: Lord Jesus, I submit to you, please lead me by your spirit. —Dr. Emmanuel James Yearly Bible Reading: I Kings 1-4 Streamglobe is Interdenominational and nondenominational.
