Luke 1:74-75 (KJV) That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

Susan never knew her father. Her grandmother who also used to be a prostitute was the only family she had. Even though they lived in the most affluent nation on earth, her family was so poor that they had to live on the generosity of strangers, prostitute themselves, sell drugs, and do other illegal things to survive.

Susan had accepted the Lord Jesus but was not yet truly free from the power of curses in her bloodline because she did not fully understand the gospel and was not committed to living for God. She started experiencing true freedom when she rededicated her life to the Lord and understood that living for God and serving Him is the only way to truly appropriate our freedom in Christ.

We see in today’s scripture that when we are delivered from the hands of our enemies, we are to serve God in holiness and righteousness all the days of our lives. Being committed to serving the Lord is the only guarantee of continued freedom in this present world. If you are not a serving son, you are a prodigal son. The prodigal son was born free but became worse than a slave in the land of strangers. It is time for all prodigal sons to come back home.

Isaiah 54:17 (KJV) says “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord”. Do you notice that the promises in the verse above are a heritage of those who serve the Lord? Curses are spiritual judgments, but only those who serve the Lord can effectively condemn them. Are you serving the Lord or are you serving mammon?

Go into today remembering that you were set free from the slavery of darkness to the glorious kingdom of God. When we commit ourselves to serving the Lord, we commit ourselves to the protection and power of heaven. Believers who are not committed to serving the Lord are cheating themselves.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me serve you and reap the benefits, In Jesus’ name. Amen.
