Worship and Physical Posture
1 Timothy 2:8 (KJV) I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. Dr. Tunde didn’t give ear to what Jude had to say because Jude came to his office requesting a favor, but his posture and demeanor were inappropriate. All the while Jude spoke with Dr. Tunde, his hand was inside his pocket and his words were careless. Dr. Tunde concluded that Jude was not a serious individual. Jude lost the opportunity of great help because he did not understand the place of posture and presentation. Because most religions in the world are highly spiritual, they are very particular about the posture people assume in worship. Whether bowing down, sitting in lotus positions, or kneeling, etc, the posture a person assumes maters in his interaction with spirits. Indeed, there are postures that people can take that invite certain kinds of spirits. The lotus position for yoga is a good example. It usually comes as a natural response for people to lift up their hands when they truly admire, adore and worship. Even fans of pop stars intuitively lift hands up during their music performances. It is also quite natural and intuitive to bow in some manner when greeting a person you truly respect, honor, and worship. It is important to note that unlike other religions and sects, believers in Christ do not have a prescribed posture without which our worship and praise would not be accepted. But we are allowed and encouraged to take postures that we would naturally and intuitively take when there is adoration in our hearts towards the one with whom we have to deal. When a believer lifts up his hands to the Lord in worship, it is an extra communication of worship to God beyond words, and it is very powerful. David said “[l]et my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice” (Psalm 141:2). Go into today remembering that your posture in worship is reflective of the posture of your heart, and it can influence the posture of your heart. Also, remember to lift up your hands to the Lord in worship today. Prayer: Father, let the lifting up of my hands be as the evening sacrifice. Let me always dwell in your presence and enjoy the fellowship of your Spirit. Amen. Want to be saved? Commanding Kingdom Authority
Matthew 8:9-10 (KJV) For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. Ray served as an assistant Pastor in his Church before he was transferred to a new city by his employer and was released by his church. When he got to this new city, he quickly joined a Church assembly the Lord led him to. He noticed however that the Pastor of this Church did not understand the word of God like his former Pastor who had great depth of understanding and the accompanying manifestation of God’s power. Because of this, it was difficult for Ray to submit to this new Pastor. He often complained, murmured and sometimes disobeyed instructions from the pastor. This continued even though he knew that this Church was where the Lord wanted him to serve. The Pastor soon noticed Ray because of his gifts and assigned him responsibilities, but it was still difficult for Ray to submit to this new Pastor. “I am better than this man” he would think. In one of the services where ray ministered, a demon-possessed man was brought. Ray did all that he could but the demon did not leave. Ray went home heavy, sad, and wondering what went wrong: “Lord, I thought we have gone past this level. More than twenty possessed men were delivered in my former Church, three of them were completely insane and you made them completely whole. Have you left me? Oh, I don’t understand!” Because of this experience, Ray took out time and went for a personal retreat. During the retreat, the Lord revealed to him that the reason he no longer had the requisite authority to cast out certain demons was because he had not been subject to the authority God placed over him. To have much needed spiritual authority, you must be under God’s authority yourself. This would show in the way you respond to constituted human authorities that God has placed over you. If a man cannot submit to men that God has placed over him, he is not submitted to God. Pray this way: Lord, I receive grace to submit to those you have placed over me, in Jesus’ name. Amen. The Wisdom of the Just
Luke 1:17 (NET) And he will go as forerunner before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him Every lifestyle is usually built on a worldview. A worldview refers to one’s philosophy or explanation of life. You don’t need to be a grey-bearded philosopher to have a worldview, you don’t even need to be aware of it to have it. Proverbs 14:12 reads, ‘There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death’ (NHEB). This tells you that (even though it leads to death eventually) the person considers that way to be the right way. Here is how it works, take covetousness as an example, a person who subscribes to the view that money is the greatest end/pursuit of life is a potential murderer, thief, swindler, envious and bitter person. He doesn’t need to set out to be all of these, but that is one of the pathways of that ‘way’, and what’s more, he will become good at all of these along the way. What about a man who believes that pleasure or self-satisfaction is the highest pursuit in life? You are looking at a man who is potentially given to lust, is capable (whether now or later) of spiking a lady’s drink to have his way with her, an unstable and unreliable person, a betrayer of trust, etcetera. These are some of the pathways on that ‘way’, and he will get quite skilled at it because there is a ‘wisdom’ that guides these ways. Apostle James spoke about this in James 3:13-16, ‘…But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.’ The wisdom that is from above is revealed in Christ Jesus. It is called the wisdom of the just or the way of righteousness (as some other versions put it). It is peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and not hypocritical (James 3:17). This is why the blessed man (of Psalms 1) does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, no matter how ‘wise’ it sounds. (The counsel of the ungodly is a pattern of thought contrary to God’s word and wisdom). Go into today determined to forsake every false way and to walk in the way of righteousness, always remembering that God’s word is [and imparts] God’s wisdom. Prayer: Lord, help me walk in your wisdom and excel in your divine life. Amen. Not saved? The Power Of Doctrine
2 Peter 2:1-2 (NASB) But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. 2 Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned. When Bidemi and her Fiancé traveled home to see her parents, her stepmother found a way of letting him know that Bidemi was not a legitimate child. She also told him that Bidemi was pregnant when she was 16 and aborted it. Unknown to her stepmother, Bidemi and her intended had no secrets between them, so her wicked plot did not work. Bidemi’s stepmother was a leader in their church. She was very committed to the church, but she was not truly a Christian. This was not entirely her fault, it was the fault of the false teachers that they had in their church. Because of her stepmother, it was initially very difficult for Bidemi to accept the Lord Jesus. She thought Christians were like her stepmother. But thank God she had the opportunity of meeting real Christians later in her life. False doctrines usually have many followers because they are usually more appealing to the flesh and to the carnal believer. Go into today remembering that the easiest way to identify false prophets and false teachers is by their fruits (see Matthew 7:15). The fruit of a person’s life is his character and his integrity. The fruit of a ministry is the quality of disciples produced through that ministry. If you observe that most of the members of a particular ministry you know are bankrupt in morality and integrity, please stay away from that ministry. Prayer: Lord, help me to be fruitful. Deliver me from the contamination of false doctrines. Amen. Not saved? The Mediator
Job 9:33 (ISV) There is not yet a mediator between us, who would set his hand on the two of us Debbie worked in one of the top commercial banks in her country. She was an entry-level staff. One day, she had a minor altercation with one of the bank’s customers. The customer had come in very pissed because his account was debited without the ATM dispensing the cash. And to make matters worse, his card got stuck in the ATM. He met Debbie and demanded for his cash and card, stating that he was on transit and this was his last resort. Debbie tried to let him know that there was a process he had to follow to address the issues and that it might take a minimum of 24hours before it could be resolved, but he would have none of it. He became so furious, using abusive words and was ready to make a scene when Debbie inadvertently remarked that shouting won’t solve his problems and that he had better calm down and the customer at that point created a big scene. Debbie was queried and she responded to the query. But when the matter was being discussed in the management meeting, she wasn’t there because she is not in the management team, however, her Head of Department who works with her and is also member of the management team was able to speak on her behalf, pleading for leniency stating that Debbie has been a good staff and that this was an honest mistake. Philippians 2:6-8 tells us that Jesus, being God, laid aside His mighty power and privileges as God, so he could take up flesh and become like one of us. By doing this, he was able to give Himself up for us so we could be saved. But that’s not all, He is also able to daily make intercessions for us before the Father by reason of his shed blood. He pleads on our behalf citing not our good works but His. So today, the cry of Job expressed in today’s text has been met. We have Jesus who though is God is also fully man and He is our mediator. Hebrews 7:25 puts it this way, “Wherefore He is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” Go into today rejoicing, you have no reason to fail nor falter, for you have Jesus at work in you and for you. Staying Free Indeed
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NET) No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it. Each time Ikenna read this Bible verse, it seemed untrue to him because of his experience. He had found temptations that he could not overcome but kept falling against his will. It appeared that these temptations were beyond what he could bear. After Apostle Paul admonished the Corinthians with the example of the people of Israel who were judged in the wilderness because of their unbelief, rebellion, and disobedience, he went ahead to remind them that there is no temptation they face that they are not able to overcome. That with every temptation, God would provide an escape route. This is an admonition to normal Christians who are not slaves to sin but are now free. When a Christian finds that he is having temptations that are so compulsive that it always ends up as if he has no way out, and he keeps falling against his will, it may be an indication that he needs to be delivered and set free from the bondage of that sin. Lasting deliverance from any kind of bondage is received through the knowledge of The Truth (see John 8:33-34). This knowledge is facilitated by devotion to the ministry of the word and prayer. There is the place for the deliverance ministry; indeed, the Lord has commanded us to cast out demons(Matt 10:8). But in order for the believer to be free and stay free, through devotion to the word and prayer, he must be filled with the Spirit of Truth–and thereby have no more room for the demon of bondage which would seek to come back to its old home(see Matt 12:43-45). Go into today remembering that you have been given the authority to cast out demons. Any recurring temptation that seems overpowering is most likely facilitated by a demon that must be cast out if there must be freedom. Prayer: Thank you Lord for coming to set me free. Help me to stay free indeed. Amen. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible in 1 year: Psalms 131-133 Not saved? Click here: streamglobe.org/33 Streamglobe is interdenominational. Good News That Brings Great Joy
Luke 2:10-11 (NET) But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! Listen carefully, for I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people: Today your Savior is born in the city of David. He is Christ the Lord. Today we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord. We celebrate the coming of God to be among us men (see Isaiah 7:14,9:6, Matthew 1:23). From that day over 2000 years ago that God came to be with us, God has been with us ever since. After the accession of Jesus into heaven, the Holy Spirit was sent to come and be with the church. This could not have happened if Christ did not come first and ascend to glory (see John 7:39). The Holy Spirit had been in the world from the beginning(see Genesis 1:2), but all the times we see the Holy Spirit operating in the old Testament, being omnipresent, He was operating on the earth from heaven. But because of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit has come to the earth and is dwelling in the church. He currently operates everywhere in the universe from the church. That is why today, whatever we (the church) bind on earth is bound in heaven, and whatever we loose on earth is loosed in heaven(Matthew 18:18). Indeed, God is with us because of the coming of Jesus. Everywhere two or three are gathered in His name, He is there in their midst. Don’t take for granted any opportunity to gather together with other people in the name of the Lord. The great possibilities and opportunities in such gatherings are limitless if you understand the power thereof. Gathering in the name of the Lord means Jesus is the reason you are gathered. It means He is at the center of it all. Even as we celebrate the coming of our Lord, let us remember to put Jesus at the center of it all so that His power can flow through us. Go into today remembering to thank the Lord for humbling Himself and coming to be with us. Prayer: Ask the Lord to use you to bring His salvation to many people in this season of celebration. I Know Whose I Am
Acts 27:23(KJV) For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve (Read from 21-26) Usually, when there is a fight for supremacy, the one trying to exert his supremacy will ask, do you know who I am? For the believer, who he is a derivative of whose he is. The believer is special, but everything special about the believer comes from God. Now read the well-known 2 Corinthians 5 vs 17 to 18a: “So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away – look, what is new has come! And all these things are from God” Therefore, the believer’s boast must only be in the Lord. We belong to Him, our life is His and our living must be based on His agenda. We live to do His good pleasure. We are of God says 1 John 4:4, but it goes on to tell us why: because the Greater One lives in us. Now let us consider Abraham, It was obvious that there was something special about Abraham, he had left his father’s house and people and yet he was prospering, he let his nephew choose the best land and yet he kept prospering, and when four kings came together and defeated five kings and took captives including his nephew Lot, he took trained servants and defeated the kings the five kings could not defeat. But then came a man of God, Melchizedek and in his salutation, we get an insight into what made Abraham special; “And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the Most High God…” (Gen 14:19) The Bible talks about great promises that are ours in Christ Jesus. But do well to remember that all these promises are because of what God has done for us in Christ Jesus. We are who we are because of whose we are. We are of God, saved by His grace. Let your boast be in Him, and let your living be for Him. Go into today remembering that when you live in the consciousness of whose you are, you will see the manifestation of His great power in your life. Prayer: Thank you Father for the privilege to belong to you. Please help me always live in this consciousness. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Want to be saved? His Mercies Are New Every Morning
Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV) It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. It was after Amaka had accepted the Lord Jesus and was instrumental in bringing many to Christ that she got careless and fell into the sin of sexual immorality which led to an unwanted pregnancy. In wanting to cover up because of her reputation, she aborted the baby. But when her conscience continued to trouble her, she confessed to her local Church council and they help her back on her feet. But whenever she heard a preacher mention sexual immorality or abortion, she would burst into tears because she had not forgiven herself. This continued for years, and during this period she didn’t make any progress in her walk with the Lord. She would blame herself for everything going wrong, so much so that she became depressed and even attempted suicide. But through much counseling and prayers, the Lord restored her. Satan the accuser is constantly seeking moments of advantage to torment children of God. One such moment of advantage is when a child of God is unable to forgive himself after confessing and repenting from sin. 2 Corinthians 2:11 (KJV) reads, ‘‘lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices’’. In order not to give Satan an undue advantage like Amaka did, you must understand that God’s mercies are new every morning. Once God has forgiven your sin, you are forgiven indeed. Any voice reminding you of that same sin is not of God. Go into today knowing that if you are in Christ, God has forgiven you. Accept his forgiveness and move on. Do not give Satan space. Prayer: Confess and repent from every known sin. Receive God’s forgiveness by faith in Jesus’ name. Ask for grace to never return to sin again in Jesus’ name. Want to be saved? Staying Spiritually Strong
Ephesians 6:18 (KJV) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints Bayo experienced great revival during his days as a youth corps member for his country. During this period, he became trained in the way of prayer and the ministry of the word. After he finished his youth service, he continued to grow and enjoy God’s presence through the ministry of the Word and prayer. He got a very high paying high demand job. Because of the nature of this new job, he had to leave the house very early in the morning and get back home at night. This started telling greatly on his prayer and word life. He could no longer pray as before and had no time for Bible studies during the week. Apart from the fact that he now had less time to pray, the zeal and desire he used to have for prayer and fellowship with the Lord seemed to have vanished. This continued for weeks and months. He knew he was waning in spiritual strength when the temptations he had overcome long ago started overpowering him. He now knew he needed help. No matter what heights you have attained spiritually, if you take away prayer and the ministry of the word from your daily disciplines for long, you will eventually fall. The devil understands this too well, that’s why he would do anything he can to distract God’s people from consistency in the word and prayer. The Lord knows you cannot survive without a prayer life, that’s why there are numerous instructions to us in the New Testament concerning praying always (see 1 Thess 5:17, Col 4:2, Phil 4:6, Jude 1:20, Luke 18:1,21:36, Mark 14:38, 1 Pet 4:7, Rom 12:12, Eph 6:18). Go into today remembering that praying always for the believer is not an option, it is the only way to excel in spiritual life. See today’s Prayer Alert Want to be saved?
