Spiritual Gifts- Word of Knowledge

1 Corinthians 12:8 (KJV)

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit.

After that time I preached the gospel to a young man who wasn’t interested in what I had to say until a word of knowledge came through me and he became interested and accepted the Lord, I have trusted in the Holy Spirit to give me words of knowledge when sharing the gospel with people.

People usually open their hearts when they see someone lovingly telling them things that they know the person couldn’t have known except it was revealed by the Lord. It is a demonstration of power that is a good advertisement for the gospel. The Samaritan woman opened her heart to the gospel because Jesus gave her a word of knowledge concerning her life(see John 4:4-30). The same thing happened with Nathaniel who eventually became a disciple of the Lord Jesus (see John 1:47-49).

The gift of ‘word of knowledge’ is very similar to ‘word of wisdom’, but unlike word of wisdom, it doesn’t tell people what to do or give them direction, it simply reveals things them. Word of wisdom usually tells people what to do in the future, while word of knowledge usually tells people what has happened in the past or what is currently happening. I believe that many times, the two spiritual gifts of ‘word of wisdom’ and ‘word of knowledge’ can come together. The same way the gifts of ‘tongues’ and ‘interpretation of tongues’ can come together.

Go into today remembering that spiritual gifts are very useful tools that help our fruitfulness in God’s kingdom. Those who do not desire and value them would hardly walk in them.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to give you the spiritual gifts that you desire, especially the ones that are prophetic in nature (prophecy, word of wisdom, word of knowledge, discerning of spirits).
