John 15:4 (NET)
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.
Before Bamidele accepted the Lord Jesus Christ, he used to do a lot of dishonest things to make money, and he made a lot of money this way.
When Bamidele accepted the Lord Jesus and started being taught and mentored in the way of the Lord, he knew he couldn’t continue in his dishonest ways if he was going to remain in the Lord. This was one of the most difficult decisions in his life. But he knew deep within his heart that what he had in Christ was greater than all the riches of this present world. He didn’t want to lose that (Read 2 Corinthians 4:17, 1 Peter 5:10, Romans 8:18, James 1:12).
Why would the Lord Jesus tell us to abide/remain in Him? Because it is possible not to abide in him but go back to the world. If a believer does not abide in the Lord, it does not necessarily mean he stops attending church services, but it means he is no more living under the Lordship and government of Christ. There is nothing that declares rebellion to the Lordship of God like continuing in any known sin and refusing to repent.
If a believer does not abide in the Lord, It means he has gone back to a life of conformity to this present world of sin (Read Romans 12:2).
Go into today remembering that those who abide in the Lord are the ones who are truly fruitful.
Prayer confession: I am walking in a manner worthy of the Lord and bearing fruit in every good work, in Jesus name. Amen. (See Colossians 1:10).
