Jesus our High Priest
Hebrews 2:16-18 (KJV) For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Demian was so overwhelmed by his trials and temptations that he stopped attending student fellowship and was now inaccessible to his brethren. He became this way because he felt they did not understand him and would end up judging him. He was an only child who became mixed up in drug addiction quite early. He never felt loved until he met Grace who invited him to fellowship and he became really close to the brethren there. He started coming to fellowship and accepted the Lord Jesus, but certain things happened in the fellowship and carnal brethren manifested in such a way that he started feeling the whole thing(faith, fellowship) was a charade. But he had truly accepted the Lord Jesus and had established a solid relationship with Him. One night he turned the TV to TBN and heard a preacher teaching from today’s Bible verse. At that point, he realized that even though his brethren may not understand him, he had a high priest who understands him. From that point, he started talking to Jesus and making confessions from scripture. He noticed that each time he made a Confession and talked to the Lord, his soul was helped and his heart was relieved of the pressure and depression. Demian was saved from the place of despair the devil wanted to send him into because he understood the priestly ministry of Jesus and related with Him from that standpoint. Do you know that you have a high priest who understands you and wants to help you? Don’t let the devil ever make you feel you’re alone in the spirit realm, there are more on your side than against you. The angels of God far outnumber the principalities and powers that want you to fail. Go into today remembering that the way you connect with the help of God is by coming to Jesus your high priest in Confession and surrender. Let him know exactly how it feels and ask Him to help you. Remember He shed His blood for you, so there’s nothing he cannot do for you. Prayer: Lord, help me never forget that you’re on my side to help me and not condemn me. Please strengthen me to know your love and live an empowered life. — Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Plan: Numbers 25-28 (In Today’s Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational and interdenominational. Costly Disobedience
1 Samuel 2:30 (KJV) “Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed”. In 1 Kings 13, the story of a young prophet was told, the Lord had given him a message to a king alongside certain instructions. He delivered the message but disobeyed the instructions. This cost him his life; he was killed by a lion, and he died before his prophecy was fulfilled. Just like this prophet, many have shared their beautiful dreams and God-given visions with loved ones but didn’t see them come to pass because they died. “Lord why?” This is the common question asked when such death occurs. Many would have asked the same question if the complete story of the young prophet weren’t told, we wouldn’t have known that his disobedience cost him his life. From today’s text, we saw how disobedience cost king Saul his dynasty, his life, and the lives of his family members eventually. This is how terrible disobedience is. Usually, before a terrific accident, a calamity, or a failure happens, God gives his children instructions which are usually soft and gentle. He gives these warnings so that such calamities can be avoided. Some may even call all calamities the will of God. A popular scripture used is, “the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord” Job 1:21. But, we know however that, the death of the young prophet in 1 Kings 13 wasn’t God’s will, neither was the loss of Saul’s dynasty. Both were products of disobedience. Go into today learning to know, hear and obey the voice of God because obedience to God’s voice saves from destruction. Prayer: Father, I ask that you help me to always obey you, in Jesus’ name. Baptized Into Christ 2
Galatians 3:16 (NET) Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture does not say, “and to the descendants,” referring to many, but “and to your descendant,” referring to one, who is Christ. Segun broke free from spiritual slavery because he did not just believe in the Lord Jesus, he was baptized, and he understood the implications and power of the baptism. Many believers have not disconnected from the limitations of their old life because they have not yet been baptized into Christ even though they have believed. Before John the Baptist started baptizing people for repentance, the Jews had a similar practice of immersing people in water for purification. When a gentile wanted to convert to Judaism and become a proselyte, one of the rituals he would go through for this process to be complete was immersion in water. This signified death to his old life of being a Gentile, and resurrection into his new life as a Jew. The practical outworking of this meant renouncing his former culture and traditions as a gentile and embracing the Jewish laws and traditions. Because of this foundation and understanding, it was easy for the Jews to understand what baptism meant. It meant death to the old life and resurrection to the new life of God’s kingdom. If a person believes and is baptized into Christ, it means he has accepted Christ as His Lord and savior and renounced his former culture and traditions that contradict the way of Christ. Go into today remembering that baptism into Christ is the way to permanently renounce the curses and blemishes of your old life, and receive the blessings and power of Christ. The blessings God promised Abraham was for him and Christ who would come as his descendant in the fullness of time. As a member of the body of Christ, you get to share in these blessings. Prayer: Lord, help me renounce every way of the past and abide in you to the end. — Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Plan: John 19-21 (In Today’s Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational and interdenominational. Baptized Into Christ
Galatians 3:27-29 (NET) For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female – for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise. When Segun believed in the Lord Jesus and was baptized into Christ, he realized that he no longer had the old desire to steal the way he used to before he became a believer in the Lord Jesus. This was a wonder to him because before he accepted the Lord Jesus, he was a compulsive thief who had lost count of the things he had stolen. He stole so much that if it were possible, he would have stolen from himself. Before Segun accepted Jesus and was baptized into Christ, he was a slave to sin, but because he was baptized into Christ, he was no more a slave to sin. This was possible because Segun accepted that Christ was now his all in all. He was willing to forsake his culture and identity and pick up the new identity and culture of Christ. He even changed his name from Ogunsegun to Peter Oluwasegun. He no longer primarily saw himself as a Yoruba man but as a Christian whose life and home had to be shaped by the Kingdom culture revealed in the Holy Scriptures. From today’s Bible verses, we can see that as many as were baptized into Christ have clothed themselves with Christ. It is instructive that today’s Bible verse did not say “as many as believe in Christ” because being baptized into Christ is a step deeper than just believing in Christ. Baptism connotes death and burial; death to the old self; death to the old life and identity, and resurrection into the new life and identity of Christ. One sign that a believer has been baptized into Christ is that there would be no more Jew nor Greek. This means that the cultural identity into which he was born would no longer define him. He would no longer primarily view himself through that lens. Paul who was a Jew among Jews before be believed said this in 1 Corinthians 9:20: “to the Jew, I became like a Jew to win them”. You will see from here that in truth, Paul no longer primarily viewed himself as a Jew but as a Christian. He was referring to Jews as “them” but referred to fellow Christians(many of whom were formerly Gentiles) as “us”. Many people have believed in Jesus but are still the same old person because they have not been baptized into Christ. They have not died to their old life and identity and received their new life and identity in Christ. They are still slaves to sin because they have not died to their old life and identity. Go into today remembering that the only way you can discontinue the curses and blemishes of your old life and reap the blessings of being a member of the body of Christ is through baptism into Christ. This means death to your old life and identity and resurrection into the life and identity of Christ. Confession: I am Christian. I am a member of the body of Christ. Christ is my life. He is my identity. He is my all in all. — Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Plan: Amos 5-9 (In Today’s Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational and interdenominational. Committed to the Truth
Ephesians 5:8-10 (NET) For you were at one time darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light – for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth – trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. When MMM(a very popular Ponzi scheme) came into Nigeria, I had the opportunity of being able to observe the outlook of two categories of believers close to me at the time. The first category was the believers who were enticed by its mouth-watering profit promise, but they were also very interested in knowing whether it was pleasing to God for them to join such a scheme. They somehow felt a check in their spirits concerning it so they spoke with people they felt would have more spiritual understanding concerning such matters because they sincerely wanted to know if joining it was pleasing to the Lord. The second category of believers were those who saw MMM as an opportunity to make quick money, and as their long-awaited answer to prayer. They did not want to know whether it was pleasing to God or not if they made money from it. Because of the possibility that it might not be pleasing to God, they were not interested in finding out whether joining such a scheme was pleasing to God. They did not truly love the Lord but they loved money more. God’s opinion was not desired as long as they were going to make lots of money. I have said time and time again that for me, one of the surest ways I can identify a true believer is how they respond to God’s word when it contradicts their way of life or something they desire to do. In today’s Bible verses, we see a functional definition of truth. It is trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Anyone who is truly saved is born of the Holy Spirit – the Spirit of Truth. Because the this, he has an inner desire to walk in the truth – to be ever more pleasing to the Lord. He will be committed to learning because he wants to learn more and more about what is pleasing the Lord (see Colossians 1:10). Anyone that does not have the truth in him may be filled with religion, but is not particularly committed to pleasing the Lord. Such is primarily committed to pleasing himself. His god is actually his belly, and he minds earthly things(see Philippians 3:19). When you receive eternal life, you [should] also receive an eternal outlook on life. You begin to live and make all your choices with eternity in view, not just time. Go into today remembering that commitment to pleasing the Lord in all things is the acid test of love for God. This is the way to know whether the truth is in you or you need to repent and give yourself to discipleship (see John 8:31-32). Prayer: Lord Jesus, please guide me into all truth. Help me live a life that is continually pleasing to you, In Jesus’ name. Immune to False Prophets And Teachers
2 Timothy 3:15-17 (KJV) “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” Timothy had a godly grandmother and mother, because of this, he knew the holy scriptures as a child. He became so gifted in the things of God that he became the Pastor of a church with many people who were older than him, some of which could despise him. For this reason, Paul wrote, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee” (1 Timothy 4:12-16). If you don’t want to fall for the deception of false prophets and teachers, you must know the holy scriptures, give diligent attention to reading it, pay attention to exhortation (messages preached by balanced men of God) and pay the price of understanding doctrine. You also must not neglect the gifts of the Holy Spirit in you. If you do these, you will save yourself and those who hear you from the influence of false prophets and teachers. You may be despised by some when you begin to pay attention to reading and living the word of God. But if you don’t quit, you will be their Pastor when they’re In trouble. Go into today knowing that the secret to knowing the truth is understanding the holy Scriptures and the truth you know will make you free (John 8:31-32). Prayer: Father, I ask in Jesus’ name for grace to be a diligent student of the scriptures and one led by the spirit of God. God Wants You To Know The Truth
Proverbs 23:23 (KJV), “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.” “Apocalypse or what did they title the study? What will I gain from that? I won’t go to hell for not knowing these mysterious and confusing things, so, why border me with it?” This was Doshima’s conclusion after attending a Bible study on the book of Revelation. How important is truth? Jesus said in John 8:32 (KJV), “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. Truth is very important because it makes free. Are there irrelevant truths in the Bible? According to 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV), “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works”. No, no truth is irrelevant. If a child of God wants to be perfect and throughly furnished unto all good works, he must be willing to study every part of scripture. How terrible is ignorance? Ephesians 4:18 says it keeps people in darkness, alienates them from God, and blinds others. Also in 1 Peter 2:15, we see that ignorance is one of the characteristics of foolish men. Ignorance either obliterates sight so you can’t see or weakens it, making you look down on what’s good because you don’t know its value. It is even worse when it exalts weaknesses because that’s all it knows. God, knowing how important truth is and how terrible ignorance is, admonishes that we buy the truth and sell it not. He wants us to go the extra mile looking for truth and one easy place to find it is on the pages of the scriptures; the whole library of books; every sentence, every line, and every word. Go into today determined to study to show yourself approved into God. Prayer: Father, I ask that you give me grace to study. Open my eyes to the truth and let the truth make me free in Jesus’ name. Filled with the knowledge of His will
Colossians 1:9 (NET) For this reason we also, from the day we heard about you, have not ceased praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding Chris and Tomlin both accepted the Lord Jesus on the same day. Chris humbly submitted himself to discipleship and was accountable to the brethren who were discipling them while Tom was too proud to submit to anyone because he felt he was rich. Two years passed and Chris was now spiritually mature, exercising authority over unclean spirits and walking in his dominion as a son of God. But Tom was still a spiritual baby whose life was filled with fear. He was regularly tormented by unclean spirits and this manifested in sicknesses and afflictions. Chris was the one who usually prayed for him and he would receive certain relief. From the day apostle Paul heard of the faith of the Colossians, he didn’t cease to pray for them that they would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. He prayed this way because he understood that it was possible for people to believe, but yet remain spiritually unwise, not understanding the will of the Lord(Ephesians 5:17). If the devil did not succeed in keeping people spiritually blind and hindering them from the light of the knowledge of God through Christ Jesus, he would do everything to keep them spiritually nearsighted so they won’t understand [and walk in] the will of God, and as a result, walk shy of their allotted spiritual authority and benefits. Spiritually unwise believers don’t pose too much of a threat to the devil and are not very useful in the hand of God. This is the reason why after believing in the Lord Jesus, you need to become a disciple. A disciple is a student or apprentice, and in order for anyone to be an apprentice, he needs to humble himself and learn from those ahead of him. It is those who continue in Christ’s word that are true disciples(see John 8:31-32). They are those that arrive at the knowledge of the truth and walk in spiritual liberty. Go into today knowing that submitting to discipleship is the key to growing in the knowledge of the will of God. A proud heart cannot be discipled. The last time you learned and grew in the kingdom of God was the last time your heart was humble. Many believers have had stunted growth because they became proud and stopped learning when they saw spiritual gifts in their lives, etc. Prayer: Lord Jesus, please deliver me from every pride that hinders me from learning and growing in your kingdom. Help me walk in the fulness of your will for me. How Many False Prophets And Teachers Do You Know?
Matthew 7:15 (KJV), “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” “My son, make sure you don’t go beyond our boundaries when cultivating the land”, Chief Chukwudi told Patrick his cousin who just arrived in the village. After hearing this, Patrick cleared a portion, cultivated and planted in it. After some months, one of the Chief’s kinsmen came complaining, “Chief, why are you taking my inheritance away from me? Your son Patrick has encroached terribly on my plot of land”. “Sorry, I will check”, Chief Chukwudi responded. When Chief got to the farm, he found that the complaint was valid so he quickly called for Patrick. “Patrick, didn’t I tell you not to go beyond the boundaries?” “Yes, you did, but I didn’t know the boundaries, I never knew I went beyond it”, Patrick responded. “You’re right, you were only a child the last time you visited the village, I should have shown you the boundaries,” said Chief. The blame wasn’t Patrick’s because he wasn’t shown the boundaries. Jesus however warned us about false prophets and teachers and showed us how to know them. So, if you fall prey to them, it will be your fault and not Jesus’. But why should I concern myself about false prophets and teachers? Someone may ask. You should, because Jesus said, “beware of false prophets”. In Matthew 24:11 (KJV) Jesus says, “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many”. In Matthew 24:24 (KJV), He warns again: “there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect” and in 1 Peter 2:1, we saw it being fulfilled; “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you…”. If Jesus warned you against them, how many do you know? If you don’t know any, you’re either a victim already or about to be. Go into today knowing that false prophets and teachers are not included in “touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm”. They were never God’s anointed! Prayer: Lord Jesus, just like you warned, help me to beware of false prophets and teachers. What is man?
Hebrews 2:6-9 (NET) Instead someone testified somewhere: “What is man that you think of him or the son of man that you care for him? You made him lower than the angels for a little while. You crowned him with glory and honor. You put all things under his control.” For when he put all things under his control, he left nothing outside of his control. At present we do not yet see all things under his control, but we see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by God’s grace he would experience death on behalf of everyone. The way today’s Bible verse started is quite unusual because normally when New Testament writers quote Old Testament writers, it usually would go like this: Romans 11:9 (NET) And David says, “Let their table become a snare and trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. But that’s not the case here. The Psalm from which the quote in Hebrews 2:6 above was taken is attributed to David(Psalm 8), and I’m sure the writer of Hebrews knew this very well, but he is saying here that ‘someone testified somewhere’. This is quite unusual. There is no other place in the New Testament that uses this language in reference to Old Testament scripture. Some have asserted that the quote is not credited to men but to angels, that it was a conversation between angels that was captured by the psalmist through the spirit of prophecy. Maybe that’s why the writer of Hebrews didn’t attribute the quote to David but said “someone testified somewhere”. Thinking about it critically, it makes sense for angels to be asking this all-important question: “[w]hat is Man?” Seeing the way God (the creator and sustainer of all things) is mindful of man, it is an all-important question. The way to decode scripture is with scripture and not with human worldly reasoning. If you read Psalm 8:4-6, and now read today’s Bible verses, your understanding of Psalms 8:4-6 will be broader and much more accurate. In today’s Bible verses, we see the progression of the experiences of man. Man was made lower than the angels (this was because of the fall). But Man would be crowned with glory and honor, and God would put all things under man’s control. But today, we do not yet see all things under man’s control, but we see Jesus, who is a man, crowned with glory and honor. Today, Jesus is the only man with this stature of glory and honor, but during the resurrection, all His saints would receive this stature– that includes you and me, if we hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the One who made the promise is trustworthy (see Hebrews 10:23). Jesus is the only hope and lifeline through which Man can fulfill his eternal destiny of ruling over the universe with God, He is the only man that has overcome the powers that hinder Man from fulfilling his glorious destiny, and through Him, we who believe in Him are overcomers. Go into today remembering that those who believe in [and abide in] Christ would get to fulfill man’s glorious eternal destiny. This destiny is so glorious that human communication is not suitable enough to describe it (see 1 Corinthians 2:9). Prayer: Thank you Lord for Your great plans for me. Please help me walk in them and please you in all things. Amen. Want to be saved?
