2 Timothy 3:15-17 (KJV) “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works”

Timothy had a godly grandmother and mother, because of this, he knew the holy scriptures as a child. He became so gifted in the things of God that he became the Pastor of a church with many people who were older than him, some of which could despise him. For this reason, Paul wrote, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee” (1 Timothy 4:12-16).

If you don’t want to fall for the deception of false prophets and teachers, you must know the holy scriptures, give diligent attention to reading it, pay attention to exhortation (messages preached by balanced men of God) and pay the price of understanding doctrine. You also must not neglect the gifts of the Holy Spirit in you. If you do these, you will save yourself and those who hear you from the influence of false prophets and teachers.

You may be despised by some when you begin to pay attention to reading and living the word of God. But if you don’t quit, you will be their Pastor when they’re In trouble.

Go into today knowing that the secret to knowing the truth is understanding the holy Scriptures and the truth you know will make you free (John 8:31-32).

Prayer: Father, I ask in Jesus’ name for grace to be a diligent student of the scriptures and one led by the spirit of God. Amen!
