God Breathed Scriptures
Ephesians 2:20 (KJV) And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. I recently saw a post on social media where a young man was claiming that he had more revelations and Rhema than the apostles did because Jesus said we would do greater works. He went on to rebuke and criticize those he deemed as ‘myopic’ and ‘religious’ brethren who think they cannot have more revelation than what the apostles wrote in the Bible. People who believe what he believes are those who say things like ‘Paul wrote that because he had not yet received sufficient revelation into the mystery of the gospel’. They are those who teach the ‘deep things of Satan’(see Rev 2:24) and call them the deeper things of the gospel. They forget that All scripture is God-breathed (see 2 Tim 3:16). Every piece of writing that made it to the Bible (scriptures) made it as a result of God’s divine orchestration. The Apostles and prophets referred to in today’s Bible text are the ones who wrote the Bible under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Under the inspiration of God, the Old Testament was written by The Prophets, and the New Testament was written by The Apostles. The Church is built on this foundation. Everything they wrote has Jesus as the chief cornerstone. If tomorrow, we find Apostle Paul’s personal journal and jottings or we discover other letters Apostle Peter wrote to the churches, neither the discovered jottings nor letters would become part of scripture, and would not be treated as such. Many other letters were written by the apostles, but the ones the Holy Spirit allowed to make it into the Bible is now our scripture. Go into today remembering that the Bible is God’s gift to you. It was carefully orchestrated and arranged by the Holy Spirit over many centuries. Any revelation that is ‘deeper’ than what the scripture reveals is nothing by a false doctrine of men and demons. Growing In the Knowledge of God
Colossians 1:9-10 (NET) For this reason we also, from the day we heard about you, have not ceased praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may live worthily of the Lord and please him in all respects – bearing fruit in every good deed, growing in the knowledge of God Mitch observed that whenever his roommate slept in the room, he did not have the terrible nightmares and demonic attacks that had now become part of his adult life. Even though he was now a believer, he knew that his roommate walked in greater spiritual authority. He found out that this was because his roommate had a more robust relationship with the Lord. As Mitch started giving himself more to spiritual disciplines that would make him grow, he realized that he too was no longer a slave to fear. The last part of today’s Bible text makes it clear that it is possible for a believer to grow in the knowledge of God. This growth is the secret of manifesting great spiritual power. This is the secret of multiplied grace that makes us manifest the divine life in this present world (2 Pet 1:2-3). We also see that it is possible for us to be fruitful in every good work. God wants you to be fruitful in every good area of your life. Living worthily of the Lord is the most important fruitfulness that makes it possible for you to have a robust relationship with God and grow in His grace and mighty power. Remember that the fruit of the Spirit affects the way you live. Being fruitful in every area is only possible when you are filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. Go into today remembering that the knowledge of God’s will is received when you pay attention to His word. Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you apply your heart to His word. Want to be born again? Service To The Belly
Romans 16:17-18 (KJV) “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” Rick’s parents were poor, his mother had died when he was only 10years old of a simple disease that over-the-counter medication would have handled. The only family that had a good life in his community was the Pastor of the only Pentecostal church, seeing this he decided as a 10year old boy to do whatever it takes to become a Pastor of a pentecostal church. True to his decision, he chose to serve under this Pastor and he soon became very familiar with the practical steps that make a Pentecostal Pastor. He served diligently, fasted and prayed a lot, and spent almost all he had on sowing seed; he got gifts for every single minister of God he met. These ministers kept praying for him and he soon began to see a level of God’s power manifest in his life. For a season he seemed genuine and committed to doing the work of God, but as he grew in influence and wealth, the original intent of his heart was made manifest, because he used every style and means possible to make members of his church give their resources to him; such means as teaching, payment of consultation fee, selling of anointing oil and mantles, etcetera. According to Philippines 3:19, there are persons whose god is their belly, they mind earthly things. They come close to God pursuing their own ambition; they do all they know to get God’s power which once gotten is used to merchandise God’s people. Balaam was a typical example; he placed price tags on the power of God and sold it to the highest bidder (See Numbers 22). These people like Balaam are perverse with corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness. God warns that you withdraw from such (1 Timothy 6:5) and also declared that their end is destruction. Why are you pressing into God? Is it for your belly? Are you selling God’s power and gifts? Are you exploiting the people to enrich yourself? If your conscience condemns you, you have need for repentance so you don’t end in destruction. Go into today knowing that if you serve God for the wrong purpose, he will not accept your service. Prayer: Father, help me to serve you acceptably in Jesus’ name. Maturity and the blessing
Ephesians 4:14 (NET) So we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes. Sandra had a challenge that really troubled her. She was a believer and had certain spiritual gifts, but this challenge proved stubborn. After praying and fasting for months over the issue, she decided to meet her discipler concerning it. He got a prophetic insight into the problem and prayed for her from that standpoint, and the problem was solved. Sandra’s discipler could pray once and solve a problem she had battled for months because through spiritual maturity, he walked in more spiritual might and authority than her. Sandra knew it was time for her to become spiritually mature and stable. One attribute of spiritually mature believers is the willingness to give. Babies don’t give anything or contribute anything to the family, but only know how to take. But when babies grow to become responsible adults, they begin to give to their parents and not just take. There are believers who give to the work of God, but only because they believe that is a way to get more out of God. This is the same ‘take” mentality of spiritual babes. The spiritually mature gives because of love. They give because they know they are blessed [with all blessings in heavenly places], not primarily because they want to be blessed. Spiritually mature believers are stable and are not blown about by every wind of doctrine. They don’t give impulsively because someone promised a breakthrough in return. They give purposedly and cheerfully (2 Cor 9:7) because they see a need and desire to meet it, honor God by giving to His ministers and ministries; and honor God by giving to their parents (both physical and spiritual). Go into today knowing that your spiritual maturity is determined by your actions. Renounce every way and conduct of spiritual infancy, and you will begin to see the fruits of maturity in your life. The fruits of maturity include spiritual stability, walking in spiritual might and authority, etc. Prayer: Lord, help me renounce childish ways and grow into the fullness of your will. Do You Love Yourself?
Psalm 84:4 (KJV) “Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee” In 1 Kings 20:39-40 (KJV), a prophet sent by the Lord to King Ahab painted his face with ashes disguising himself, then this conversation ensued: Prophet: “Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver. And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. King Ahab: “So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it”. The prophet hasted, took the ashes off his face, so the king discerned him that he was of the prophets and he said unto the King, “thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people”. The life of King Ahab was in his own hand; he was to by himself decide what becomes of him, but he failed because he disobeyed God and death was the consequence. God’s instructions are clear and are spelled out multiple times in the scriptures. One of such is captured in today’s text: “Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee”. Sadly, many have chosen the path of Ahab. They constantly disobey God’s instruction, thus choosing a curse instead of a blessing. Why would anyone do this? Don’t they love themselves? No, they don’t, if they do, they will seek to obey God and enjoy the attending blessings. Do you really love yourself? If you do, you will seek to know God’s instructions and obey them. Prayer: Father, I ask that you help me do your will so I don’t by myself stop the flow of your blessings towards me. Serving God Acceptably 2
Hebrews 12:28 (KJV) Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear Morris could not pray as he used to, nor could he walk in the level of spiritual authority he once enjoyed, not because he was walking in any “known sin”, but because he was handling the assignments of God in his life with levity. He was not as committed to the work of God like he was committed to his money-making job. But things happened to make him realize that his communion with the Lord was more important than his job or anything else. Indeed, his good health and wealth were dependent on this. As he sought the Lord to understand why he could not connect with heaven like before, he realized for the first time that heaven was counting on him to accomplish certain assignments on the earth, and failing was considered to be a wicked sin in heaven. He was already failing because he did not give priority to his kingdom assignments. There are people who should not go to hell if you fulfill the call upon his life, but failing means they could end up in hell because there was no one to reach out to them and disciple them. Do you see why the Lord referred to the servant who buried his talent as a wicked and slothful servant? (see Matt 25:14-30). Whether you are representing Christ in the marketplace, or as a preacher, what heaven looks out for is that you are representing Christ well, living a life whose goal is to make Christ known. We are witnesses unto Christ, and God has placed us in different places to represent Him. Most of the preaching we do is with our character. Our words become so much more potent when our character is accurate. Go into today remembering that whoever you are and wherever God has placed you, you are expected to serve the Lord. Because God’s Mercy is the precursor to His grace, and God’s mercies are new every morning, remember to find renewed grace each day for the assignment God has given you. Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me never forget that I am your representative here. Help me represent you well. How Do You Define Success?
Matthew 12:50 (KJV) For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. Finding out that a volume was written concerning me by God before I was born has been my most thrilling discovery. For me, it is a game-changer. There is a detailed description of God’s intention for me and If I know it (them), do and finish it (them), I’ll receive a “well-done thou good and faithful servant” from The Lord, and this to me will be the peak of all success. This is how I see success, how do you see success? In John 4:34 (KJV), Jesus says ’’ my meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work’’. Hebrews 12:2 (KJV) says that we should look unto Jesus; ’’ Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.’’ If Jesus is our example for life, then, the food that keeps us going (just like him), must be how to do the will of God and to finish his work. This will then mean that the standard by which success will be judged will be the degree to which we walk in the will of God. Go into today knowing that the most important discovery for a child of God is to know the will of God for him. It is on this premise that he may then be judged successful or not. Pray this way: Heavenly Father, please help me walk in your will always. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Serving God Acceptably
Hebrews 12:28 (KJV) Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: Morris was going through a dry season in his life and this started to bother him seriously. It appeared that the heavens were locked against him as he found it really difficult to pray and commune with the Lord. He saw that because of this, his faith was waning and he could not exercise spiritual authority the way he used to. The effect of this was evident in his business, finances, and marital relationship. Some things happened in the office and Morris was fed up with the spiritual dryness in his soul. He thus decided to go on a personal retreat to entreat the Lord to reveal to him what was wrong because he was sure that what was happening to him was not the result of the manipulation of the devil. As Morris sought the Lord in prayer and fasting, the Lord caused him to read today’s Bible verse. The Lord reminded him of the kingdom responsibilities he had and how he had been handling them with unseriousness. His job was handled with more seriousness than the assignments he knew the Lord had given him as an agent of the kingdom. The Holy Spirit asked him that: if you were working for the governor of your state, would you handle his job the way you are handling the work you are doing for the king of kings? As sons of God who have received the Holy Spirit, one of the very crucial things the Holy Spirit does to us is that he reveals to us the assignments that God has given us. He reveals them to us and ensures that we understand them. If you are a child of God and you don’t know God’s vision for your life, ask God to reveal it to you by His Spirit. If you are not yet baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, that may be the reason why. We all have a kingdom purpose and assignment predestined for us even before we were born (see Ephesians 2:10). But knowing this is not enough. In order for us to serve God acceptably, we need to receive His grace. Grace is received when we have come to the end of ourselves and acknowledge that we cannot do it without God’s help – God gives grace to the humble(James 4:6). Go into today remembering that because you are receiving God’s eternal kingdom, it is important for you to serve God. Promotion in the kingdom is a function of faithful service(see Luke 16:10). Those who refuse to serve will suffer loss. Remember the Parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30, Luke 19:11-27). Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me never forget that I am to serve you. Please give me the grace to serve you acceptably. In Jesus’ name. Nothing, But Enough
2 Kings 4:2 (KJV), “And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil.” This widow called a pot of oil nothing, and you’ll agree with her because she needed to ransom her sons who were taken as slaves because of the debt their father owed. A pot of oil is certainly useless in this situation, yet, that was all she had. The pot of oil was nothing before God stepped in, in like manner, all that you have are all nothing if God has not stepped in yet. Your certificates, qualifications, skills, and connections are all nothing, they’ll never be good enough to ransom your soul or that of your loved ones. In Mark 8:36-37 (KJV), Jesus says, “what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”. What shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Nothing! All hope is not lost. Just like the widow In today’s text did, if you will only commit your “nothing” to God, he’ll make something great and beautiful out of it. He is able to save to the outermost (Hebrews 7:25); He will save any and everyone that will come to him. Isaiah speaking of Jesus said, “a bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth (Isaiah 42:3 KJV). Even if you’re as weak and delicate as a bruised reed or an irritating, choking, smoking flask without light, Jesus will make a wonder out of you, if you will only commit yourself to him. Go into today knowing that Jesus can take your nothing and make something great and beautiful out of it if you would only totally surrender to Him. Prayer: Lord Jesus, I surrender all that I am and have to you, take it and use me for your glory. Contentment, A Shield From False Prophets And Teachers
John 10:5 (KJV) “And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.” After pastoring for 15 years, Pastor Joel visited another Pastor in town because he was not satisfied with the result of ministry; he wanted more power, crowd, and money. This Pastor took him to another Pastor who told him they’ll be visiting a powerful Pastor in a village for special prayers together. On the said day, all the Pastors traveled to see the “powerful village Pastor” where something surprising happened. “What are all these?” Pastor Joel asked, “prayer tools” the other Pastors responded collectively. “Ah! Did you just call a python, bowls containing blood, and these other things prayer materials? Please let me go, I don’t want your help any longer” Pastor Joel pleaded stammering. Apostle Paul writing to Timothy said, “godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6). Contentment is the reason why a man will abide in his calling and not compare with others (1 Corinthians 7:20), and the reason why a man will leave father and mother, and cleave to his wife: the two becoming one flesh (Matthew 19:5). Without contentment, it is impossible to fulfill God’s purpose one will not be satisfied with the portion allotted to him (see Matthew 25:24-25). Whenever the handle of contentment is lost, people start hearing the voices of strangers (false prophets and teachers) and the aim is so that godliness can be lost. Many who were once godly became ungodly when they heeded the voice of a stranger all because they couldn’t wait for process; God’s timing was too slow, so they decided to help themselves just like Pastor Joel did in our story. Go into today knowing that the little that God has given you will please him if you work with it faithfully and he will reward you in due season. Prayer: Father, please give me the grace to be contented with what you have given me in Jesus’ name.
