Colossians 4:2 (NET)
Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving.

I was praying in the Spirit one night when I saw that someone close to me was going to be afflicted with sickness. I prayed about it and rebuked the spirit of infirmity that sought to afflict this person. The next couple of days, I found out that this person was slightly sick but recovered and was back to sound health. I wondered how serious the sickness would have been if I wasn’t praying that night and saw what I saw and rebuked the spirit I sensed.

We can see from today’s Bible verse that one way we keep alert and watch is by praying.

When Jesus told us to watch, notice that it also involved praying. He said watch and pray (see Matt 26:41, Luke 26:36). You will also see in Ephesians 6:18 that watching and praying go together. You cannot be an effective watchman if you are not a man of prayer.

Some of you reading this Devotional today have been appointed by God to be watchmen over your family members. You have the authority from God to prevent evil from getting to them. Many of them may not know the Lord the way you know the Lord, but because of you, evil will not come near them, and many of them will eventually come to know the Lord. But you will not be able to watch and be alert if you are not a man of prayer.

Go into today thanking the Lord for the privilege to be responsible in His kingdom. Ask for the grace to be faithful in watching and praying.
