How Do You See Prayer?

Matthew 6:6 (ESV), “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” In Luke 18, Jesus told a parable about a widow who needed justice. This widow went to the judge in town and said to him, “give me justice against my adversary”. There are many ways she could have solved her problem, but she chose the legally acceptable way, and although it took some time, she eventually got what she wanted. Jesus told this parable to teach that prayer is the legal way to deal with life’s issues and that we are never to give up praying until we have received an answer. The widow pleaded with a human judge but we are to plead with our Father; God. In Matthew 6:9 Jesus said, “Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…”. Every prayer should be directed to our Father in heaven. It is sad that many today are now taking prayer as an end in itself. They make statements like: “prayer is powerful”, and “prayer moves mountains”, while others pride themselves in the number of hours they spend praying. But, many of such end up very frustrated because they did not get answers. Today’s text says, “And your Father who sees in secret will reward you”, proving that God is the one who is powerful, he is the one who answers prayers (see Psalms 65:2). The next time you want to pray, remember that: prayer is not the end, but a means to reach God who is the end. So, the target should not be prayer, rather, the target should be God. If you pray with this understanding, you will get more answers. Prayer: Holy Spirit, please help me to pray correctly. —Dr. Emmanuel James Bible in 1 Year: Joel (in today’s audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Discerning False Prophets

Hebrews 2:3-4 (NKJV) how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? Shade had a hard time discerning false prophets from true ones. She observed that some of the false prophets had become very smart by embracing ‘holiness’ doctrines. But she had a personal encounter with one of such holiness preachers and realized he was as greedy and filthy as the rest. She also realized that most of the false prophets were not interested in winning souls for the Lord, they were only interested in the money. We can see from today’s Bible verses that salvation was first preached by the Lord Jesus Himself, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him (His disciples who echoed His gospel). In Matthew 9:35 and Luke 8:1, we see that the Lord Jesus went to different towns and villages teaching and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom. We also see that His disciples did the same. Many wonder what gospel message Jesus and the Apostles preached since Jesus was not yet crucified? Well, Jesus preached the message of salvation. What makes a person receive eternal salvation is believing that Jesus is Lord (the Christ of God, the messiah). Even before Jesus died on the cross, people were saved through believing in Him. We see in Luke 19:9 that Jesus said salvation had come to the house of Zacchaeus [because he believed in Him]. Before and after His death and resurrection, believing that Jesus is Lord was the key to salvation. The resurrection was God’s token proof that Jesus is Lord. The Jews crucified Him because He said He was the Christ (the Son of God, the King of the Jews). But God raised Him up on the third day as proof that He is indeed the Christ (Lord, Anointed One, the Messiah). The gospel we preach today now includes this vital truth— that God raised Jesus from the dead (see Romans 10:9). In John 4, we are given a rare peek into the content of the gospel message that Jesus preached while He walked the streets of Israel. We see Jesus preaching to the Samaritan woman, and their conversation headed up to Him revealing to her that He is the Messiah (see John 4:25-26). The woman believed in Him and even invited others to come and see the Christ (see John 4:29). Whether then, or when the Apostles preached, or today, the gospel message has been about bringing people to receive the Lordship of Christ Jesus. People who receive the gospel live under the Lordship of Christ. That’s why they repent of their old ways that do not align with life under Christ’s government. Go into today remembering that God confirms His gospel with signs and wonders, miracles, and gifts of The Spirit. The next time you want to discern whether a prophet is false or not, look at the fruits of his ministry (Matthew 7:16). Is he raising people whose allegiance is to Christ (this shows by their lives of submission to the Lordship of Christ) or is he raising people whose true allegiance is to him and to mammon? Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me be a true minister of your salvation. Stretch out your hand to confirm your word in life with signs and wonders, miracles, and gifts of the Spirit, In Jesus’ name. Amen. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible in 1 Year: Proverbs 22 (in today’s audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Kindly share this Devotional with your contacts and let’s touch lives together. Giving All Diligence

Hebrews 2:1 (NET) Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. Terso accepted the Lord on campus when he almost died as a result of the initiation rituals imposed on him by a certain cult group he was about to join. Their members abandoned him to die when it was clear that he wasn’t recovering from the wounds inflicted on him during initiation. His life was saved by a Christian group who prayed for him and cared for him until he recovered. He accepted the Lord, grew in the word of God, and walked in the tangible power of God as he grew. Many came to know the Lord because of him. Many years later, he started ignoring some of the fundamentals of the gospel and started getting excited by strange stories and legalistic rules presented as holiness: every believer who didn’t dress a certain way was going to hell, etc. Terso became very judgmental and legalistic, as a result, there was no more assurance of salvation in his heart, and he was evidently waning in spiritual might. After certain things happened in his life that proved to him that he had drifted away from the Truth that made him saved, he looked for his university sermon jottings and started reading them again until he properly understood them. The Lord restored him and he discarded the strange doctrines he had received. It is worthy of all diligence to pay closer attention to the word of God and be sure that we properly understand the basics of our faith as believers. Many have drifted away because they did not give all diligence to understand and continue in certain foundational truths. Go into today remembering that more than anything else in this world, we must give all diligence to the ministry of the word and to prayer. Prayer: Lord, please help me never to slip away from your truth. Help me to always be a witness for you in this world. Amen. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible in 1 Year: Psalms 105-107 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Kindly share this Devotional with your contacts and let’s touch lives together. The Chastening of God

Hebrews 12:8-9 (KJV) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? “Lord, why is my own always different? Why do you always make it difficult for me in things like this?” Clara cried out. She took part in exam malpractice and was caught and sent to the disciplinary committee of the university. The same malpractice that others did and “prospered”, when she partook in it, she was caught in such a way that she just knew it was the Lord chastising her. One thing every true son of the kingdom would tell you is that God chastises His children. When you become sincere about following Jesus and inheriting His kingdom, you will learn the fear of the Lord through real-life experiences that would reveal to you that the Lord is chastising you when you go wrong. A time would come that you would be so afraid of sinning, not because you don’t know the “benefits” of the sin, but because you are afraid of the chastisement the Lord would administer if you go that way. But those who are still playing church would know nothing of this. The government of God over their lives would remain a foreign concept. God chastises us and teaches us obedience [by the things we suffer] so we would walk in His holiness. There are many dimensions of God’s authority, power, and glory that we cannot access unless we sanctify ourselves and walk in His holiness. When God chastises us, it reveals that we are truly His children who are destined for greatness in His kingdom. Go into today remembering that God always wants the best for you. God’s plan for you is better than your plan for yourself. When the Lord chastises you, it is because you are His son and not a bastard. Actually, all true sons would testify that they have been partakers of God’s chastening, and the end product is always glorious. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible in 1 Year: I Chronicles 20-24 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Walking with God Among Men

1 John 1:3(NET) What we have seen and heard we announce to you too, so that you may have fellowship with us (and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his son Jesus Christ) Dami had been scolded by her youth pastor over her impunctuality in church activities. She didn’t take his reprimand well and hence boycotted the next service. Tina, her unit head, met her fuming when she went visiting after service. “Who gave him the right to talk to me in that manner, just because I came late a few times, am I the only one coming late to church?” “Calm down Dami, I know you feel offended by his rebuke, nobody enjoys rebuke, however, you know it is within his rights to call you to order when you are doing something wrong” “Why is that? Is he my parent? Even my parents will not rebuke me this way now. Or is he God? My service is to God and not to any man” she fumed. “Dami, you really need to calm down because you are getting this all wrong” Have you ever felt like Dami? Do you perceive spiritual oversight as men’s interference in your relationship with and service to God? Well, here is the thing.   Indeed, every believer has God as his Father and the Lord Jesus as his Master. However, the way God’s Kingdom is set up, a man’s stance, posture of heart, and relationship with God can be gauged by his stance, posture of heart, and relationship with men. Yes, that was no mistake. The wise believer must learn that God works with men and through men to exercise His authority, exert His dominion, and exemplify His character here on earth. So that those who come under His authority must needs come under the authority of (certain) men, and the proof of their submission to the authority of (these) men becomes proof that they are indeed under the authority of God (See Hebrews 13:17). Likewise, the life of the believer who truly has a relationship with God is meant to serve as a mirror where men (neighbors, co-workers, friends, and indeed enemies), though observing the man, actually see and experience the character and power of God at work. We are designed to be breathing, living, walking visual aids to understanding the character of God so much so that this becomes evidence that we indeed know Him (See 1 John 4:20). Dear Christian, when you come into the family of God, you will find that not only have you to deal with the hosts of heaven, you will also have to deal with the ‘hosts of earth’, that is the church. They will nourish you, and watch over your soul. Go into today, knowing that as you walk with the Lord, you will do so among men. Determine to make full proof of your devotion and submission to God. —Ikechukwu Mpama Bible in 1 Year: Numbers 13-16 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Not Upended

Psalms 16:8 (NET) I constantly trust in the Lord; because he is at my right hand, I will not be upended. This was Tobi’s first travel on water. Uncle Kenny had promised to give him a holiday treat, and Tobi mentioned how he had always wanted to experience a boat or ship ride to enjoy the sea. Thankfully, Uncle Kenny was a man of great resources, he pulled a few strings and three days into the holidays, he and Tobi were on a 4-day round sea trip to a tourist destination. The second day into the journey, they encountered a storm, the captain and his men battled the storm and finally threw their anchor into the sea, which when it hit the seabed, helped to steady the cruise ship even in the midst of the storm. We live in a world that has a lot of uncertainties and has no short supply of pressures and storms. These pressures hit us as waters hit the side of a ship in the storm, swaying it side by side threatening to upend it and completely overturn its contents and passengers. We face pressures that threaten our peace, joy, security, and indeed our very life. Many a man, in the midst of the storm, lose themselves and are left off like a ship drifting on the sea with no rudder or anchor to give it direction or stability. However, there is hope, a sure expectation, which trusting in the Lord produces that acts as an anchor for our soul. It is a blessed assurance that the One to whom we anchored is greater than every storm and is dependable for all times and in all seasons. When we trust in the Lord, we can be sure that not only can He deliver us from storms, but that He can also be with us in the storm and enforce calm to the raging winds. The Psalmist said, “I constantly trust in the Lord”. This kind of trust is the product of a constant healthy relationship with the Lord. Where you hear the Lord’s voice in a constant reverberation in your heart and soul. This keeps you alive to God and builds your trust. Go into today determined to maintain a constant healthy relationship with the Lord where you hear him daily by His word and fellowship constantly with the Holy Spirit in prayer. You shall never be upended even in the midst of the storms. —Ikechukwu Mpama Bible in 1 Year: II Timothy 3-4 (In Devotional Audio) Subscribe to our Apple Podcast Here:

The Fear of The Lord

Philippians 2:12 (KJV) Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. One of the most painful things is having to deal with believers who have no integrity. Some so-called believers are outright frauds, but they profess the name of Christ and are even decorated members of big church congregations. Many professing believers now walk unrepentantly in iniquity and claim that they are under grace. What delusion! Because of this, the name of our Lord is blasphemed among unbelievers (Romans 2:24). And it is becoming harder and harder for certain people [who reason critically] to come to the light of Christ because of the filthy shadow cast by lukewarm believers everywhere. Growing up as a child, I remember that the church in my country was not as wealthy and large as it is today, but it was much more powerful. True conversions to the faith by even those who were the biggest antagonists were commonplace. The name of the Lord was more revered and honored even in the media. No comedians dared mention the name of the Lord or make a caricature of his ministers(something that has become too common today). But some things changed along the way and everyone now felt comfortable in church with unrepentant hearts. The fear of the Lord was skillfully and gradually removed from the Christian creed. All of a sudden, believers no longer walked in the fear of the Lord. Foolishness now became celebrated in the organized church because politicians who are known as thieves were given titles in the church. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom(Prov 9:10). To fear the Lord less and less is the beginning of foolishness. Some have argued that believers should not fear the Lord but only have ‘reverential awe’ towards Him because He is our heavenly father. Some have argued that today’s Bible verse was not correctly translated, that we are to work out our salvation with ‘reverential awe’ towards God, not with fear. The problem with this view is that reverential awe does not invoke trembling. But the verse clearly says “work out your salvation with fear and trembling”. Believe me, whatever it is that awaits believers who do not obey this command (to work out their salvation) is something that should be terribly feared and dreaded by anyone. It is time for the fear of God to return to His people everywhere because when God comes to judge the world, it would begin at the household of God (1 Peter 4:17). May we not be found wanting. May we not be cast away after laboring in God’s house. Go into today praying with this verse: 1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV) But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible in 1 Year: John 10-12 (in today’s audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Faithful In Unrighteous Mammon

Luke 16:11 (KJV) If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? Ekene worked in his boss’s shop where he served as an apprentice. He often added to the price of the goods sold and stole from his boss so that he could make some extra money. He did this all through his years as an apprentice and was never caught. After he had finished his apprenticeship, he began his personal business, but he never prospered. He became so frustrated that he sought help from his pastor. By prophecy, his pastor told him about how he had been an unfaithful apprentice; and told him what to do if he wanted his lot to change. Luke 16:12 (KJV), “And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?” Before God commits true riches to your hands, he will first of all test your faithfulness with the unrighteous mammon (money). For Ekene, he had to work under a boss. For you, it may be managing the finance of a little group such as a church, family, and even your personal earnings. For example, tithing, offering, giving to others and how you spend money, etc. When you are unfaithful with the little at hand, you will not receive the much that is desired. Luke 16:10 (KJV), “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.” If you desire the true riches of the kingdom, you must learn to be faithful in the unrighteous mammon (money), because, except you are found worthy of trust, God will not entrust you with the riches of His kingdom which includes earthly wealth. Go into today knowing that God is willing to give you true riches. However, you must forsake all your unrighteous ways of seeking money. Prayer: Lord, help me walk in your true riches and live above all limitations. Amen. —Dr. Emmanuel James Bible in 1 Year: Hosea 8-14 Streamglobe is nondenominational. The Spirit of Holiness

Romans 1:4 (KJV) And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead Funke had a false view of holiness because of her neighbors. She thought being holy meant dressing funny and not using deodorant. Even after she believed in the Lord Jesus, unknown to her, she was not very comfortable with the subject of holiness. When she heard a preacher talk about holiness, she felt he was preaching legalism. But as Funke grew in the knowledge of God, she realized the true meaning of holiness. She now desired above all else to be holy because she understood that holiness was the secret to walking in authority as sons of God. It is important to note that in spite of the fact that we have been ordained to be sons of God, it is through sanctification(holiness) that we would practically apprehend the reality of sonship. Even our Lord Jesus was declared to be the son of God by the Spirit of holiness. 2 Corinthians 6:17-7:1 reveals that it is when we accomplish holiness that we would walk in God’s promise of sonship. Here’s what the Holy Spirit says in 2 Corinthians 6:17-18, 7:1: Therefore “come out from their midst, and be separate,” says the Lord, “and touch no unclean thing, and I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,” says the All-Powerful Lord. Therefore, since we have these promises [mentioned above], dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that could defile the body and the spirit, and thus accomplish holiness out of reverence for God. Go into today knowing that if you must grow in the authority and power of the Holy Spirit, you must become more like Christ. Becoming like Christ is the definition of holiness. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible in 1 Year: Proverbs 20-21 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Ask Believing

James 1:6-7 (NET) But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed around by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord Damola asked the Lord to expand his business, but he was behaving in a way that proved that he was not really expecting his prayer to be answered. This was the reason his prayer was not answered. He was double-minded because his expectation was different from his desire and request. He made his request known to God in prayer, but his expectation was the opposite of what he requested. His expectation was not cut short. What does it mean to ask in faith? It means asking and believing that you will receive what you have requested. It means after you have asked God for something, you expect it to happen, without a doubt (see Mark 11:23). This means that if you ask God for something, you begin to prepare to receive it. You do not say “I might receive it”, you say “I have received it”, and go on thanking God. One reason we [need to] tarry in prayer is not that God did not give the answer the minute we prayed, it is that tarrying in prayer conditions our hearts to stop doubting so we can believe and receive what we have asked for. Asking in faith means your expectation and your desire are now one. You absolutely expect to receive what you have asked for. Oh, that we may have hearts so conditioned by faith that we always expect to receive what we have asked for. Go into today remembering that God would not usually give us things that are against His will for us, so it is important for us to know His will through His word so we may not ask amiss (see James 4:3). Prayer: Heavenly Father, I ask that you help me know your will and pray according to it.
