Grace and Peace
Ephesians 1:2(KJV) Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. This is a familiar salutation repeated in most of the New Testament. (See Rom.1:7, 1Cor. 1:3, 2Cor.1:2, Gal.1:3, Phil.1:2, Col.1:2,). You would notice after reading the above references that grace always comes before peace. Before you can have peace in your life, you have to understand the grace of God. So many people are so wrapped up in their own self efforts that they never have peace. They remain frustrated. They are trying to work to please God. However, the thing about working to please God is you never know when you have done enough or performed well enough to meet His requirements. The devil will tell you “You could have prayed longer. You could have gone to one more church service. God is not pleased with you.” This will always leave you frustrated and without peace. However, when you understand God’s grace; when you understand that God has already done the work and all you need to do is receive His gifts of grace, all the pressure is off, and peace is the result. 2 Peter 1:2 points out that grace and peace are multiplied to us through knowledge of Jesus Christ. Understanding of God’s Word(which leads to a deeper knowledge of God) always increases our capacity to handle more of His blessings. As we increase our capacity, God increases the amount we receive. David said, “my cup runneth over” (Psalm 23:5). God always fills to overflowing, but He only pours out when we have something with which to receive. If you do not have a cup, God is under no obligation to pour. The cup comes through knowledge of God and His Word. As your knowledge increases, your cup increases. Increased capacity brings increased grace and peace. PRAYER: Ask God that as you study His Word, the Holy Spirit will help you grow in grace, and find peace which passeth all understanding to keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One, and He Himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world. Vivian did something she had promised the Lord she would never do again. Because of this she was very sad and started to believe that the Lord has not forgiven her. She believed that the Lord had withdrawn his grace and protection. But she was very wrong. Like Vivian, many Christians allow depression to deprive them of grace because they refuse to accept the forgiveness of the Lord but continue to think that the Lord is angry with them because of what they did. They do not realize that God knew they would do what they did long before they did it, and He was not surprised that they did, but made arrangements for their atonement. It is OK to feel remorse about a sin. As a matter of fact, the feeling of guilt associated with sin is a sign that you are spiritually alive and healthy. But just like other good things the Lord has created, the devil will try to exploit that feeling and use it to destroy you. The way to deal with sin is to repent and forsake it and move on. Jesus is the one who does all the spiritual work, including the cleansing from guilt and every other evil associated with the sin (see 1 John 1:9). Go into today knowing that Jesus alone is the atoning sacrifice for your sins. Stop trying to atone for your sins by allowing Satan to afflict you with guilt and fear. Want to be saved? TOPIC: THE FEAR OF THE LORD Psalm 111:10 (NLT) Prov 1:7, Job 28:28 INTRODUCTION Everyone who is wise has come to understand the fact that life has a Lord who orders things, and there is more to life than meets the eyes. Wisdom makes any understanding person know this from simple observations of life. It is only the fool that says in his heart that there is no God (see Psalm 14:1). There are many who have said with their mouths and with their pens that there is no God, but not in their hearts. They know in their hearts that they are lying. Some of them are even servants of the devil set up to turn the hearts of the simple-minded into ultimate foolishness. Since we know that one primary manifestation of divine wisdom is the fear of the Lord, we want to be sure that we are walking in divine wisdom by ensuring that we understand and walk in the fear the Lord. We may not be able to easily know and control whether we are walking in divine wisdom (because everyone is wise in his own eyes), but we can definitely control whether we are walking in the fear of the Lord. If we are walking in the fear of the Lord, we are walking in divine wisdom (see Job 28:28). Every child of God has the spirit of Christ, this means he has the spirit of wisdom. Many do not walk in their divine wisdom because their hearts have not been renewed to walk in this aspect of their divine nature. DISCUSSION: 1.Discuss Job 28:8. Psalm 111:10, Prov 1:7, Prov 9:10 2.Define the fear of the Lord. Explain Gen 31:42 3.How can we learn the fear of God? (Psalm 34:11-14, Deut 17:19) 4.How does the fear of the Lord and divine wisdom relate? 5.What are the signs that a person fears the Lord? Deut 6:2, Deut 10:12, Prov 8:13 6.Wisdom instructs you to fear God: Prov 15:33 7.The Holy Spirit empowers us to fear God: Isaiah 11:2 8.Fear of the Lord is a function of faith: Prov 9:10, Hebrews 11:6 WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD 9.Wisdom: Job 28:28, Prov 9:10 10.Privy to the deep things of God Psalm 25:14 11.Angelic protection: Psalm 34:7 12.What are the signs that a person does not fear the Lord? CONCLUSION The fear of the Lord in your heart provides the right atmosphere for the manifestation of the divine wisdom that you have received in your spirit through the Spirit of Christ (the Holy Spirit). www.streamglobe.org

After Chide accepted the Lord Jesus, he struggled with many of his previous bad habits and sins. When he discussed this with his discipler, his discipler would recommend prayer and fasting. Chide observed that the prayer and fasting worked in keeping his flesh at bay, but when the fasting was over, he observed that the flesh would spring back up and seek to control him. His spiritual life was like a seesaw; on fire today and cold tomorrow. One day he saw his friend reading a book about the kingdom of God and he was drawn to it. He borrowed the book and started reading it. For the first time, Chide came into an understanding of God’s Truth and kingdom. From then, he was now excited to read the Bible, even the old testament now made sense to him. He observed that as he became a person of the Word, his prayers became much more powerful and he was now free from the bondage of sin. He received His freedom through the knwoledge of the Truth. Jesus told those who believed in Him that it is when they abide in His word that they would know the truth, and the truth will set them free(see John 8:31-34). I have come to realize that the most effective way to escape the power of sin is through abiding in God’s word. The way God sanctifies us is through His word [which is Truth] (see John 17:17). The word of God is the spiritual water that cleanses and renews the minds of those who are born again ( see Ephesians 5:26). Go into today determined to be a person that abides in God’s word. Psalm 119:9(KJV): Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. Want to be saved? Embrace The Blessing
Ephesians 1:3 (NLT) All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Dotun was now saved, and he was glad he had escaped the wrath that was imminent. He started learning that he didn’t only escape the wrath of God, but had come into the blessing of God through his continued faith in Christ Jesus. He wasn’t only going to escape hell, but he was now going to inherit the kingdom of God. Dotun wanted to understand what it means to inherit the kingdom of God. One of the first things he learned was that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor 15:50). He understood that during the resurrection, we would not resurrect with bodies of flesh, but with glorified spiritual bodies (1 Cor 15:43-44). These physically visible glorified bodies will reveal our true nature as sons of God. But while we are in this body of flesh, we can experience the first fruits of our kingdom life because of the indwelling Holy Spirit (see Romans 8:23). Since flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, Dotun knew that if he was walking in the flesh (Gal 5:19-21), he could not live the kingdom life of victory, glory, and power. Today, many believers are not fruitful in the kingdom life because they have not understood the kingdom of God. We can learn from the Parable of the sower (see Matt 13:3-8, 18-23) that those who received the word and were fruitful were those who received it and understood it (see Matt 13:23). Go into today remembering that you have been blessed with all spiritual blessings. Remember that those who walk in the flesh cannot walk in these blessings. Want to be saved? Before she gave him the present, she prayed over it and asked the Lord to use it to bring him to salvation. When she gave him the Bible, she made him promise to read it. When Dotun first read the Bible, he started from the Old Testament but stopped reading it before he got to the New Testament. He particularly liked the story of Nebuchadnezzar and the book of Daniel because as a history student he could confirm that those kingdoms and Kings really existed in history. One thing he observed from reading the Bible as an unbeliever was that the wrath of God was really scary. So several years later when someone came to preach the gospel to him and told him that by accepting the Lord Jesus he was going to escape the wrath of God, he quickly accepted Christ’s Lordship because he did not want to be part of those who would experience the wrath of God. One of the reasons the Gospel is good news is because it shows us a way of escape from the wrath that is to come. Humankind is headed for eternal condemnation. The only salvation is in the Lord Jesus. If you have not accepted the Lord Jesus, today is your day of salvation. Escape the condemnation of the world because ‘He who believes in Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God’. John 3:18 (NKJV) Pray this prayer: I believe in my heart and confess that Jesus is my Lord. I will now live under His authority and do as he says. Thank you Lord for dying on the cross for me. Since the day Colins and Candy got married, they had bitter quarrels and misunderstandings. Colins had this perfect idea of what his ideal wife should be like, but he was disappointed because after marrying Candy, he found that she didn’t meet his expectations. Candy, on the other hand, wanted Colins to be a perfect gentleman she could control, but Collins was anything but that. What made matters sadder was that they were both leaders in the church, but they didn’t seem to know how to live in peace with each other. After going for marriage counseling with their pastor, they realized that the root of their problem was pride and a lack of willingness to bear with one another in love. When they both came to terms with the fact that they were proud and needed to humble themselves, they started to have a happy marriage. One of the ugliest things to see is Christian fellowships or homes in which there are divisions and dissensions. Most of the time, it takes a conscious effort on our part to maintain peace. A believer who is quarrelsome and divisive is not living in a manner worthy of His calling in God. How do believers live worthily? We do so by making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Many times, in dealing with people, if there would be peace and unity of spirit, we have to be willing to be patient and bear with them in love. This is only possible when we are humble and gentle. A proud person cannot do this. Go into today remembering that walking in a manner worthy of the Lord enables you to walk in the glorious power and liberty of the Lord. Humility and gentleness are key attributes of those who walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. Prayer: Lord, help me walk in a manner worthy of my calling in You and please You in all things. Amen. Interactive Bible Study Manual 4
TOPIC: Does God’s Judgment Cause Evil to Happen? Part 1 Introduction When we read the Old Testament, we see that a number of dreadful things were commanded by God because of the sins of the people. From the flood of Noah to the destruction of the Canaanites, we see a side of God many do not like to talk about because they do not understand how a God of love can be responsible for so much human peril. There is a common school of thought that says all evil in this world is of the devil, and God never does anything negative. Another school of thought says God in the Old Testament is different from God in the New Testament, that even though God destroyed people because of their sins in the Old Testament, because of the sacrifice of Jesus, God no longer destroys people but showers love on them till they come to see the light. But as we look at the New Testament, we find the book of Revelation, and other portions in the epistles that talk about the wrath of God coming upon the children of disobedience(Ephesians 5:6, Colossians 3:6). We see entire plagues, famines, and perils poured out from heaven upon the earth in the book of Revelation(see Revelation 6), and many believers have decided to behave as if that book does not exist. This study is to further help us understand the character of God and to see His love in all of His actions. This is an interactive inductive Bible study, so we are all expected to discuss, contribute, and allow the scriptures to lead us to our definitive inferences. DISCUSSION 1) God is the judge of the whole earth(not the devil) Genesis 15:4, Genesis 18:25 2) God is a just judge and a loving father (Same verses as above) Ezekiel 22:29-31 3) God’s judgment is because of His love. It slows down global decay and destruction (Discuss the principle of gangrene and amputation) Numbers 35:33 4) God is slow to anger(Joel 2:13, Numbers 4:18) 5) Explain the perceived contradiction in Numbers 4:18 6) Christ’s death on the cross was God’s love and mercy through His judgment (1 John 2:2, Isaiah 53:5). Discuss. 7) The devil needs permission from God before he can afflict the righteous (Job 1:10-12). Because of this principle, there are many things the devil cannot do in the world without permission because of the righteous. Discuss this. 8) Only in Christ is there escape from judgement.1 Thessalonians 1:10, John 3:16-18 Conclusion God’s ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. Many things that God does that we might perceive as evil are actually good if only we could see things from God’s perspective. Remember that we are eternal beings and it would be a serious mistake for us to judge things only from a human time-bound perspective.
Dealing with Envy

You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. Tinuke and Adenike were best friends in the university. But after they graduated, it appeared that Tinuke started progressing much faster than Adenike. Tinuke got a very good high paying job, but Adenike didn’t. Tinuke got engaged and married, but Adenike remained single. Adenike became troubled because it appeared that God no longer answered her prayers. She started asking the Lord why. The Lord mercifully revealed to her that since they graduated, she could not pray without having Tinuke in mind. She was envious of Tinuke, and her prayers always started from that point of envy and covetousness. She did not know that this envy was greatly hindering her progress and prosperity. You see, when there is envy or covetousness in the heart of a believer, it pollutes his motives and hinders him from receiving from the Lord because God does not answer His children’s prayers that stream from fleshly motives. God is a good father; He does not reward bad behavior. When a person truly trusts in God and knows that everything he will ever receive comes from the Lord, such a person will not be envious of his neighbor’s progress. We can learn from today’s Bible verse that one way to ensure that God does not answer your prayer is praying from a standpoint of envy or covetousness. Envy causes hatred, and those who hate their brothers are considered to be murderers in the kingdom of God (see 1John 3:15). Go into today asking the Lord to help you purify your motives and pray acceptably. Prayer: Lord deliver me from every form of envy and pride. Help me to pray acceptable prayers. Amen. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” It is very exciting to know that God has made provision for our physical health and wellbeing if we make His Word our priority. In the passage we are considering today, “all their flesh” refers to our whole physical body, “health” also means medicine. So we see here that God has provided medicine for our whole physical body. This is very significant as we go through life, because most people will come in contact with some form of illness at some point in their lives. But for the Word of God to be effective as medicine, there’s a direction or prescription for taking it. Let’s consider four of those directions today. 1. Attend to my words or give attention to my words: When you turn to the Bible, you need to give it your total and undivided attention. Try to shut yourself off from other influences or distractions. Remember it is God speaking to you. That is not the time to look at your messages on your phone. You can’t get anything out of the bible if you approach it half-heartedly. 2. Incline your ear: That is an attitude of humility. Bow your ear. It’s an attitude that tells the Lord that you’re willing to be taught. Be humble, be teachable. For you to get the word to work in your life, you must have a desire to be taught. 3. Do not let them depart from your eyes: This refers to focus. Focus on the word of God. Don’t look partly at the bible and partly on other things because they may contradict what the bible is saying. Shut yourself in with what God is saying through the bible. Don’t be distracted. Don’t let any other influence turn you away from what God is saying. 4. Keep them in the midst of your heart: The very essence of all these is to get the word of God into your heart, the very center of human personality. Follow these directions the way you would adhere to a doctor’s prescription and the word will be life and health to your whole physical body. —Otuokon, Ubokudom. Not yet saved?
