A FRIENDLY CHASTISEMENT

[6] Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. It probably must have been hard and embarrassing for Peter who was handed over leadership of the early church by Christ, to see himself openly rebuked by Paul, who formerly persecuted Christians. However, because in humility he accepted and saw in the rebuke God’s truth, this same Peter would later affectionately refer to Paul as a beloved brother. Paul was truly a friend (Gal 2:11-14, 2 Pet 3:15). The word of God in Hebrews 12:7-12 talks about accepting correction from God and from earthly parents. It is quite understandable for one to accept chastisement when the chastiser is of higher authority, but what happens when it’s from a perceived peer or a friend? In truth, God is far higher than us in Authority and Might, but in an incredible act of love, He brought Himself down to our level and called us His brethren and friends (Heb 2:9-11, Jn 15:15). It may hurt us more when a friend points out to us our wrongs, but it pays in the end because we very often confide more about ourselves to them than we would to our rulers, parents, etc., so our friends know how to be of help to us more personally (Pro 18:24). We must reject pride and mustn’t be believers who only respond to correction if it comes from the top, but not from our own peers, otherwise, the enemy will capitalize on our ego to bring us down (Matt 23:12). From today, determine to be humble to not only accept rebuke from your believing peers but also be bold enough to confess your faults to them as well, for prayers from such meetings lead to deliverance (Jam 5:16, Job 42:8-10). —Chibo E.C Bible in 1 Year: Leviticus 16-18 (in today’s audio) Not yet saved? FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY

Already you are rich! You have become kings without us! I wish you had become kings so that we could reign with you! Gbenga and his wife were fond of criticizing and judging servants of God. They were experts at searching out the faults of men of God online and criticizing them (many of their criticisms were based on false assumptions and partial truths). They felt they had the authority to do this because they believed they were spiritually gallant and were now great people in the kingdom of God who had the authority and the ability to judge. Their main reason for this feeling was because materially speaking, things were going well for them, so they felt this was a function of their spiritual might. But they were wrong. They were still spiritual babes who needed to be thought the rudiments of the faith. But with this mindset, they could not be taught and could not be fruitful. Like the church in Laodicea (Rev 3:17), the young church in Corinth began to have a false sense of security because of their worldly wealth. Physically speaking, they were doing well and had money. They thought because of how things were going well for them physically, it was an indication of their advancement and greatness in the kingdom of God. Many of them believed that they had become kings and rulers in the kingdom, and they felt they now had the authority to judge the servants of God and compare one to another(see 1 Cor 4:3-6). But they were wrong, they were still spiritual babes (see 1 Cor 3:1) and were heading for the rocks without the apostolic intervention of Paul. If criticizing ministers of God has become your ‘spiritual gift’, it is a sign of spiritual immaturity and retrogression. Go into today remembering that the real measure of spiritual might is faithfulness and humility. —Chibo E.C. IS HE ON YOUR SIDE?

Psalm 118:6 (KJV) The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? Further Reading: Psa 124, Rom 8:31-33 A toddler who only began to walk recently was holding the hand of her mother in a mall. Each time she mistakenly stumbled, her mom held and propped her up to her feet so that she wouldn’t fall. But growing in excitement, against her mom’s wishes, the toddler wanted to walk on her own. Through persistence, she removed her tiny fingers from her mother’s hand but didn’t get really far, as only a few yards away, she tripped, fell and began to cry. The world today is full of evil and increased atrocities that make one want to hide in fear. But according to God’s word, it is clear that God is on the side of those who worship Him. He is on our side regardless of the magnitude of our opposition (2 Kings 6:16). Even when we stumble in ignorance, just like a mother, God is there to uphold us (Psa 145:14). We must believe it, know it and confess it. There are many instances in the Bible when God wasn’t on the side of the Israelites and as a result, they lost several battles. Same also can be said for the believer. God loves us and desires to always be on our side, but if we deliberately lose our hands from His and decide to go solo like that toddler, we would stumble and fall. The word of God in Amos 3:3 becomes very apt because it means that unless we remain in agreement with God (His Will), we cannot be guaranteed that He is on our side. Go into today in agreement and obedience to God’s word and be assured of a life in Christ without the fear of any present or future dangers because God will always be by your side (Rom 8:38-39). —Chibo E.C. AN EARLY PRAYER LIFE

I watched a video recently of how some brave medical doctors calmly tried to resuscitate a newborn child whose heart wasn’t moving. The child was so new, yet went through a lot and was at some point smacked severally in the rear till he cried and started to breathe normally. It was very moving as well as hard to watch but thankfully the doctors were early and quick to spot the issue and save the child. From our scripture text, man’s life here on earth is short but filled with hardship. From a different angle, it could also be said that even a baby of only a few minutes already has trouble waiting for him. Whichever way we choose to view it, it is clear that trouble is inevitable (Jn 16:33). Many believers wait until certain situations get very bad before they begin to pray. If the devil doesn’t wait for anyone to settle down in life (including children) before he attacks, why then do we wait before we pray? In Psalm 50:15 God says “Call on me in the day of trouble…”. If we’ve established that man’s days on earth are inevitably filled with trouble, do we wait for that day or do we instead get into prayers immediately? This is another reason why believing parents must teach their children to pray from their early age. An early prayer life, especially as one rises up for the day, helps prepare and equip one with the much-needed grace to face certain tough situations and overcome them. Start your day always, praying in the Spirit as well as in your understanding, using the Word. As you do so, God will go ahead of you, and just like when Jesus prayed for Peter, will keep you from falling (Lk 22:31-32). —Chibo E.C. THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE

After Chinonso failed the same examination two consecutive times, he got tired of life. Even though he was a Christian who had been baptized in the Holy Ghost, he contemplated giving up [on God]. The next opportunity to rewrite the exam would be his last chance. It was at this time of depression that he found the scripture verse(Ps 84:7) that says “they go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God”. He responded to this light by choosing a specific time and place where he would stay in God’s presence(appear before God) each day through prayer and the word. Even though he couldn’t pray sometimes, he remained there in his place of prayer, waiting on God. Chinonso passed the examination with flying colors the next time he took it. He could only attribute his resounding success this time to the strength he had received by daily waiting on the Lord. The word of God reveals the truth that makes people free (John 8:31-32). Many have the Bible and have memorized some of it but are not free. This is because the word has not been revealed to them as the truth. The day you find the truth, it will make you free. The way to know that what you have is the truth is through the freedom that accompanies it. Those who walk in the truth of God’s word cannot walk anymore in bondage (to sin or any demonic limitation). You can have the letter of scripture as memory verses and quote them fluently, but if you are not free because of them, you have not really met with the truth. Ask the Lord to open your eyes to His light (the truth) for you for this season and help you appropriate the full benefits of your freedom and riches in Christ. This is the secret of a victorious Christian life. THE FOOLISHNESS OF PRIDE

And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? Solomon was a very proud young man because he was intelligent, rich and good looking. He didn’t know how proud he was until some things happened and he needed help from certain people he had despised in the past. Because of the way he treated them in the past, he was ashamed to receive help from them. At that point, he understood the foolishness of pride. A woman may become very proud because she is beautiful and intelligent, but the truth is that she was born that way. There was really nothing of her doing that made her born so beautiful and intelligent. Some people were born with borderline IQ, others were born with brain damage or certain weaknesses, and it wasn’t their fault they were born that way. Just like those born with privileges had nothing to do with the fact that they were born with privileges, those who were born without these privileges had nothing to do with the fact that they were born that way. Those who have been hard working and successful should not be proud because their intelligence and ingenuity was given to them by God. Some people more hardworking are not as successful because they are not as intelligent or talented. Everything you can ever have in this life is because it has been given to you by God. Even your life is a gift from God. One of the most foolish and repulsive things before God is pride. God resists the proud. Pride is not in the nature of God, it is evidenced in how God became flesh to atone for the sins of man. It is evidenced in the willingness of His Spirit to help us by dwelling within us believers. Go into today searching your heart to see if you truly have the mind of Christ (see Phil 2:5, James 4:6, 1 Pet 5:5-6). Ask the Lord to forgive every pride in your heart and make you truly humble like Him. —SD Abraham Bible in 1 Year: Psalms 81-83 (in today’s audio) Get free sermons here☞ streamglobe.org/34 Streamglobe is interdenominational. SPIRITUAL BALANCED DIET

He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. Further Reading: John 7:37 – 39 NKJV One famous kind of bread you’ll find in bakeries all over the world is the baguette. When stale, it can become very hard, and if eaten in this condition without any liquid, this French bread of high quality can be deadly to its eater by way of choking. Therefore, it is advised that a fluid which aids digestion accompany its consumption. Similarly, many believers are also choked and can’t seem to relate what they read in God’s word with their physical reality (Mk 4:18-19). The Word, though given to us as our spiritual bread, still has to be properly eaten and well digested in our inner man before its life-giving nutrients are beneficial to us. Using the Israelites or the prophet Elijah as examples, when God feeds people, He not only gives them food but gives them a diet that is so balanced and complete, to satisfy both their hunger and thirst (Exo 16:13-15; 17:6,1Kgs 19:5-8). One may survive for a time with only solids but would fare less without water. So it is with the one who gets by, using head knowledge or mental assent in a legalistic approach to the Word of God without the Spirit’s interpretation (2Cor 3:6). As you study God’s Word from today, ask the Holy Spirit to open your understanding. As you do so, you’ll be filled and well-nourished to grow and fulfill God’s will for your life (Col 1:9, 2Pet 1:2, 2Pet 3:18). —Chibo E.C Bible in 1 Year: II Kings 6-10 (in today’s audio) Not yet saved? STAY WITHIN WHAT IS WRITTEN

Some time ago, I was studying about how some of the biggest cults and sects in the world started and I learned that many of them were started by people who were once in the church, but who at some point started interpreting scripture beyond what was written, and ignoring portions of scripture that they did not like. As a result, many such sect leaders were exposed to evil spirits that facilitated the movements they spearheaded. One of the biggest mistakes a minister of God can make is to go beyond what is written in scripture. Any encounter, revelation or insight that cannot be backed by scripture, or is contradicted by scripture, is dangerous for the believer, even though it may make a lot of logical and common sense. In 2 Cor 12:2-4, Apostle Paul talked about encounters in Paradise and the third heaven, but he said the things heard there were unlawful to be uttered. What does this (unlawful to be uttered) mean? We know that the law of life is encoded in the scripture. Any truth, encounter or teaching that cannot be properly supported with existing scripture will be unlawful for a servant of God to teach. When things cannot be expressed within the ambit of scripture, they are not lawful to be uttered within the framework of ministry. Go into today remembering that God has graciously given us the Holy Spirit and the Holy Scriptures to keep us in His will and guide us through this dark, murky world where it is so easy for people to lose their way (Psalm 119:105). —SD Abraham Bible in 1 Year: Leviticus 13-15 (in today’s audio) Not yet saved? Wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the motives of hearts. Then each will receive recognition from God. Chinonye received the Lord Jesus when she was a teenager and had grown to know the Lord. Because of this, she responded differently to situations she came across in life. Her colleagues in the office wondered why she was so calm and collected and so easily willing to forgive wicked offenders and overlook the most grievous trespasses against her. She tried to explain to them that even though people may escape human judgment on this earth, no one was going to escape God’s judgment on the Day of Judgment. Because of this understanding, she didn’t try revenge because she knew God was going to judge. Eternal judgment didn’t look like a time too long to wait for her because she knew she had eternal life and now had the proper perspective of time and space. We can see from scripture that there are times that the spirit of judgment could come upon believers, as willed by the Lord, and they would proclaim judgment against the Lord’s enemies (see Acts 13:11). But it has to be a result of the Lord’s leading, not a result of the fleshly desire to get vengeance. Sometimes, believers have used their spiritual power to destroy people that would have later being a blessing to them and to the world because they wanted their vengeance instantly. There probably would be no ‘Apostle Paul’ if Stephen had used his authority to pray down judgment on those responsible for his execution (see Acts 7:58-60). Go into today meditating on this: Romans 12:19: Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. —SD Abraham Bible in 1 Year: Colossians 1-2 (in today’s audio) Not yet saved?
