Mathew 11:28-30 (KJV) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Our minds find it difficult to accept the simplicity of words like these as we tend to lean more towards seemingly complicated answers to our daily challenges. (See Ecclesiastes 7:29 GNT)
Jeremiah, under the inspiration of the Lord, pointed to the same reality when he spoke these words: “Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, we will not walk therein”. Jeremiah 6:16
A yoke is a bar or frame of wood that joins two animals at the neck for working together. Daily living is full of expectations/burden/cares; and all of these come in different sizes and weights. For example, trying to live righteously on the strength of self-discipline, the weight of becoming successful in our careers, or even fulfilling something the Lord spoke to you about by your own devices, we can go on and on.
The one who is the same yesterday, today and forever, He who is the way, the truth, and life; the one (Christ) whom the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings point to hands you an invitation to His to rest. You have to start believing that He is in control and is taking care of you when you submit to His lordship.
I don’t know your weights nor the things you are laboring fruitlessly for, but I know there is rest for your soul today. Christ gives rest. Will you accept the Lord’s invitation as you go into the world today?
Prayer: Identify the areas of your life that is a burden or care. Say: Lord, I yoke this aspect of my life to you. I don’t want to worry or fret about it again.
