Genesis 31:10-12 (KJV), “And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled. And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I. And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee”.
Matthew 2:13-14 (KJV) recorded one of Joseph’s dreams as follows, “….behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt”.
The instruction given to Joseph in this dream was straightforward and all he needed to do was obey, but Jacob’s vision in today’s text was not as straightforward.
How did Jacob know what to do with what he saw? He saw that “the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled” and his response was captured in Genesis 30:37-39 (KJV)
“And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink. And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted”.
There is no way Jacob’s dream would have been interpreted as Jacob did except by a supernatural help – the spirit of wisdom.
Are your dreams like Jacob’s? You will need the spirit of wisdom to make the best of such dreams. So, the right thing to do is to wait on the giver of the dream (revelation) to give you the wisdom to interpret it.
Go into today remembering that the way to make the most of what God is showing you through dreams and visions is to wait on Him(in prayer) for the spirit of wisdom to rightly interpret them.
