“And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you–and more [besides] will be given to you who hear.â€�
The verse of scripture under consideration today is rendered in king James version this way “…Take heed what ye hear..�. To ‘take heed’ means to pay special attention, ponder, vigorously contemplate on, or carefully consider. To ‘hear’ means to hearken, or give audience. In other words, carefully consider what you give audience. So friend, what do you hear? What do you do with the truth that you hear? The things you hear or listen to will greatly impact your life. What you hear can build up or cripple your faith. Faith is built when you hear the word of God. Doubt and unbelief is also built when you listen to negative faith inhibiting words.
We are surrounded by bad news; from the moment you awaken till the time you go back to bed, most of the things you will hear especially from the media will be mostly negative. So how do we combat this surge and invasion of our minds by negative things? Can I suggest that in the midst of the negative reports, deliberately and consciously give your attention to the truth. The facts are enormous, and mostly negative; but the truth is that Jesus is still Lord. Turn your attention to God especially when the negative media is contending for it. Use the word of God as a yardstick to measure what you hear, discard the lies and cling to the truth.
The measure of virtue and knowledge that comes back to you is dependent on the measure of thought and study you give to the truth you hear.
Prayer: Ask that God will give you the grace to give attention to the truth of His word.
