Psalm 19:8 (KJV) The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes
When Monday first believed, he saw the precepts of the Lord to be unbearable and difficult. He actually thought some of them were simply unfair. These were some of his thoughts: ‘why should I love my enemy?’ ‘It is not fair to turn the other cheek…’it doesn’t seem right to deny my feelings of passion…’ Etc.
As Monday grew spiritually, he started to see that the precepts of the Lord are for his own good. He started to understand the wisdom in doing things God’s way. He started seeing things from God’s perspective and no more from the perspective of the flesh. The Christian walk was no more a burden, but now a joyful adventure. He now understood why the Lord said ‘my yoke is easy, and my burden is light’ (see Matt 11:30).
As a Christian grows spiritually, he is transformed from being a carnal man to being a spiritual man. The walk of faith is a great burden to the carnal man, but it is great joy to the spiritual man. God’s will is that we will grow to the fullness of Christ and no more be dominated by the flesh but by the spirit. This doesn’t mean the flesh may not try to rear its ugly head every now and then, but it means we do not let the flesh control us but the spirit.
Go into today remembering that spiritual growth does not happen by chance or merely with time, it happens as a result of a deliberate craving for the sincere milk of God’s word (see 1 Pet 2:2).
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to feed on your [sincere] word and grow spiritually.
