Colossians 3:9-10 (NET)
Do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with its practices and have been clothed with the new man that is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the one who created it.
Stacy realized that she wasn’t growing spiritually, and this became a cause of great concern for her. She knew this before she saw that many of the things that God said would happen in the life of a believer were not yet happening in her life. As she started searching to find where the problem was, the Holy Spirit helped her to see that she could not grow to the fullness of Christ on her own without the input of other brethren. She was a spiritual lone ranger. She never read any spiritual books or listened to any sermons nor did she submit herself to be discipled by anyone. She attended a church where she was anonymous.
Every baby has the potential of becoming an adult. But the child has to grow up first. When you became born again, you were born after the nature of Christ. But this will only be actualized when you are spiritually mature. Spiritual maturity makes us more and more like Christ, both in character and in stature (authority).
Physically, there are many things required in order for a newborn baby to grow and become an adult; the baby needs to be cared for by other adults. That’s how spiritually; believers need to be cared for by other mature believers. And there are those specially equipped by the Lord to do this. They are Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and teachers.
Ephesians 4:11-13 (NET)
It was he who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, that is, to build up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God – A MATURE PERSON, attaining to the measure of CHRIST’S FULL STATURE.
