1 Corinthians 8:2-3 (NET) If someone thinks he knows something, he does not yet know to the degree that he needs to know. But if someone loves God, he is known by God.

Recently, while on evangelism with some of my brothers, we met a young boy who told us he had believed in the Lord Jesus but didn’t see the need to be baptized. He was so sure that baptism (all baptisms) was not necessary because, according to him, if a person believes and lives right, that person is fine.

I could see how my brother (who was the one speaking to him) tried not to be irritated by this boy’s blatant ignorance smeared with a tinge of pride. Indeed, the biggest hindrance to the fruitful knowledge of God is partial knowledge [that produces pride]. Proper spiritual knowledge and understanding will produce love.

If you study the teachings of the Lord Jesus, it wouldn’t take long for you to notice that the Lord was quite direct and clear about what it takes to inherit the kingdom of heaven. In one of such teachings, the Lord reveals that many who think they are saved would find out that they were never really known by Him because they were workers of iniquity. Read Matthew 7:21-23.

How is it possible that someone would say Jesus is Lord (Matthew 7:21), and even perform miracles in His name, but would be told by God that “I never knew you”? What then is it that a person can have that will make him known to God?

I believe 1 Corinthians 8:3 reveals to us the answer: It is those that love God that are known by Him. After believing in the Lord Jesus, we are expected to grow into loving God. One of the most important questions your life will answer is “did you love God?”

Remember that the first commandment of the Lord is that we love Him. Fruitful obedience (indicative of transformation) is born out of love.

Go into today remembering that what our experience here on earth should build into our hearts is love for God. That will be the basis for our evaluation. Remember that it is when you love God that all things begin to work together for your good(Romans 8:28).

1 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV) But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
