Prov 3:9 (KJV) Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase

Adaobi’s Parents were billionaires. But each time she traveled to visit, she would buy them clothes, fruits, foodstuff and anything she felt they would like. She would also give them money. Even though her parent’s house was usually full all kinds of assorted fruits and foods, anytime Ada bought fruits for her parents, they claimed the fruits tasted better. Her mother would proudly wear the dress Ada buys for her as if she didn’t have better ones. Ada’s gifts always brought joy to her parents because they felt honored by them.

Our God owns all things, but it gives Him joy when we honor him with what we have.
Unfortunately, I have found that some Christians in Africa dishonor God by still honoring some household idols. They do so whenever they give money for idolatrous purposes and rituals, even though they don’t directly participate.

When you give your money for idolatrous practices, you are doing so to honor a demon that is most likely seeking to regain dominion over you. Whether it is during burials or any other kind of ceremony where money is to be given for rituals, Christians are not to be involved in such. It is a dishonor to God for you to give to another god anything, no matter how small. You cannot honor God and honor a village god at the same time. Doing so exposes you to demons.

Go into today determined to honor God with your substance. Remember that Our God is a Jealous God. Do not give to another what belongs exclusively to Him.

Prayer: thank you father for your word today. I pray you help me truly honor you with my life. Amen.
