2 Peter 2:1 (ESV) But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.  And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Many years after Judith’s salvation experience, she met a group of young and enthusiastic preachers who taught that ‘‘God is too kind to condemn the world he had created to destruction”. They also said that ’‘the hash God of the Old Testament is different from the Loving and gracious God of the New Testament and because this New Testament God is so loving, he condemns no one”.  Because of Judith’s understanding of the word of God she turned them down and didn’t follow them. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case with those who didn’t have as much understanding as Judith.

Whenever you see evil and good on the same platter, what you are seeing is evil. Some of the fruits for identifying these false prophets and teachers according to the above passage are:

They will bring destructive heresies. Heresy is the departure from the truth, It also means preferring a truth over the other usually because of personal bias and gain.

They will deny [the authority and divinity] of Jesus.

They will cause many to follow their sensuality (lustful desires).

Because of them, the way of truth will be blasphemed.

They will exploit their victims.

The subduing power of false prophets and teachers is their allowance for sensual and sinful gratification. According to them, sin is no longer evil because God has poured out his abundant grace. Their end and that of their followers however is destruction. See 2 Peter 2:3.

Jesus in John 8:34 said, ‘‘Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin’’. Ponder on this as you go about today’s business.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, let my heart be fixed on the truth of your word and never the bias of men. Amen!
