Serve the Lord and Be Free

Exodus 8:1 (KJV) ‘‘And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me”. After spending about four hundred years in Egypt, the children of Israel began to cry to God for freedom because their pains and sufferings were excruciatingly unbearable under the taskmasters of Egypt. God heard their cry and came down to deliver them (Exodus 3:7-8), but He needed a reason for which their deliverance will be justifiable and the reason He found was, “that they may serve me”. The most justifiable reason why you should be free is so you could serve God. So, if you will not serve Him, you are rejecting freedom. Many, after receiving Christ, are victims of oppression because they have not yet given to the service of God; they have refused God access to certain aspects of their lives, thus giving the devil advantage to oppress them in those areas. The cheapest route to deliverance is getting lost in service to God. Exodus 23:22 (KJV) says ‘‘But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries”. But how will this happen? It is by loving and serving God with all your heart and with all your soul (Deuteronomy 11:13). Exodus 19:5-6 (KJV) reads, ‘‘Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation’’ Exodus 23:25-26 (KJV) ‘‘And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill”. Go into today knowing that freedom will come when you totally release that area of your life under contention to God in service. Prayer: Lord Jesus, I choose to serve you with my all. And as I serve you, I receive all-round freedom. Living By Faith
Mark 4:31 (NKJV) [The kingdom of God] is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth Luke 17:21 …the kingdom of God is within you. If you plant a mustard seed, everything about the tree including the fruits it will bear and the huge size it will attain is encoded into that seed. As the seed begins to grow day by day, its real nature is revealed in the plant. Everything the tree will ever become has been encoded in that seed. When you received Christ as Lord and Savior, you received the righteousness of God in your Spirit. This seed of God in your Spirit is incorruptible (see 1 Peter 1:23). God’s plan is that as you live out your life here on earth by faith, His righteousness within you is revealed. ”For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; it is written, ‘the just shall live by faith’” (Rom 1:17). As you live by faith, the righteousness of God in your spirit is revealed, just like the nature of the mustard seed is revealed as it is allowed to grow. Any believer who does not live by faith will not let the righteousness of God deposited in his spirit to be revealed. He will be unfruitful. Remember that God’s expectation is fruitfulness (John 15:16, Luke 8:4-8). The righteousness that counts before God is the righteousness of God, not the righteousness of man. The righteousness of man is a result of man’s work in obeying laws, but the righteousness of God is the fruit produced when believers live by faith (walk in the Spirit). A believer who lives by faith obeys God’s instructions, not because he thinks that they are the reason he is justified, he obeys them because he understands that he already has a relationship with God because of Christ Jesus. A child obeys his father not so that he can become his father’s child but because he is already his father’s child. Go into today thanking God for the gift of His righteousness in your Spirit. The Mind that Overcomes
1 Peter 4:1-2 (NET) So, since Christ suffered in the flesh, you also arm yourselves with the same attitude, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin, in that he spends the rest of his time on earth concerned about the will of God and not human desires. After Rakesh accepted the Lord Jesus, he had a real struggle with his old habits of sin. At some point, it appeared as if it was impossible for him to overcome them because they had so much power over him. He loved the Lord, but he still found that his sins were so powerful that he started to think they were impossible to overcome, and grace covers them and gives allowance for a life dominated by the power of sin. But because he had walked in the communion of the Holy Spirit before, he knew he couldn’t continue in the works of the flesh and be spiritually whole. Rakesh got his freedom from the power of his sins when he read an article that helped him understand 1 Peter 4:1-2. Apostle Peter walked closely with the Lord Jesus while Jesus walked the earth, he understood the mind and outlook of the Lord Jesus to life such that He lived a perfect sinless life. Peter understood that the only way the believer can live as Jesus did is if he has the same attitude to life that Jesus had. He saw first hand that for Jesus, pleasing the Father was more important than life itself. Jesus said things like ‘if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off'(see Matthew 5:30). He saw how even though Jesus had the power to resist it, He was willing to die on the cross because that was the will of the Father. This mind that Jesus had is the only mind that has finished with sin. Apostle Paul also had this outlook to life, that was why when a prophet told him that he was going to be persecuted if he went to Jerusalem to preach, that didn’t change his mind one bit. For him, pleasing the father was more important than life itself (see Acts 21:10-14). The default mind of every human being is ‘I want to enjoy my life no matter what’, but the mind that conquers the power of sin is one that says ‘I want to live to please God, so if suffering in the flesh is what it takes, then so be it.’The world teaches us to love our [flesh] lives, but Christ teaches us to deny it. The world teaches us to live for earthly pleasures, Christ teaches us to deny ourselves and live for a higher purpose (Luke 9:23). Go into today remembering that we should arm ourselves with the same attitude that Jesus had. He was willing to give His life in order to do the will of the father. Want to be saved? God Bought You
1 Corinthians 6:20 (ESV) for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. There was a time when men were sold in the market as slaves and those with the means got themselves some. When the buyer had no plan of reselling such a slave, he put a brand (mark) on him or her for identification. This brand is usually imprinted using hot irons and the slave becomes the slave owner’s property for life. The buyer could use the slave for anything he wanted and the slaves had no right to refuse. If they did refuse, they would be grievously punished. Being an offspring of Adam, you were sold to the devil as a slave to serve sin and was condemned to perish (Romans 3:23). In His love, God, in wanting to redeem you, had to buy you over through the blood of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, ‘‘for it was not possible that [for] blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins” (Hebrews 10:4). After God bought you over to Himself, He put His Holy Spirit in you as a seal (brand) of ownership (2 Corinthians 1:22) and since then, you became God’s property. But instead of being his slave for life, he granted you the privilege to become His son (see John 1:12, John 15:15). Now that you know what the Lord has done for you, how will you respond to His love? He expects that you reciprocate His love by living for Him and His glory since he died for you (1Corinthians 6:20, 7:23, Matthew 5:16). You will be unreasonable if you accept God’s freedom but live to please yourself instead of pleasing Him. Go into today making up your mind to live your life for the One who purchased you with His blood. Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for redeeming me. I am determined to live for you. Please let your grace be sufficient unto me. Amen! Want to be saved? Be Strengthened in the Lord
Ephesians 6:10 (NET) Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Blake was now really weak because of the many battles he had faced and lost (at least that was his thinking). He didn’t feel strong enough because he had been beaten down so many times in life. He continued in this state of spiritual weakness until he heard a sermon about the joy of the Lord. That was the day he realized that spiritual strength and joy in the Holy Ghost cannot be separated. He determined from that day that he would never allow the devil to steal his joy and strength again. Because of this decision, he gradually but surely came out of his depression and started doing exploits for the Lord again. One of the easiest ways the devil deceives people into weakness is by tempting them to sin so that as a result, they would lose the joy of their salvation. There’s this resident joy in the heart of everyone who has received God’s kingdom, and this joy is a fruit of the Spirit. But when believers violate their consciences, it sets their spirits into a mood of mourning and this can rob them of this joy of salvation. That’s why after David’s iniquity, he cried to the Lord to restore to him the joy of His salvation(see Psalm 51:12). The devil can also attempt to rob us of this joy by orchestrating circumstances around us that are unfavorable. But we must not forget that one way to be strong in the Lord is to rejoice in the Lord always(see Philippians 4:4) because the joy of the Lord is our strength (see Nehemiah 8:10). Go into today remembering that being strong in the Lord is to rejoice in the Lord and let your hope and confidence come from the Lord. Trust in the Lord’s faithfulness at all times. He is more faithful than your mind has the ability to understand. Want to be saved? Learning from Cain and Esau

Hebrews 10:26-27 (KJV) For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. Cain and Abel were siblings. A time came that they offered a sacrifice to God. Cain’s sacrifice was rejected while Abel’s was accepted (Gen 4:4-5). Cain was displeased and was angry because God had no respect for him and his sacrifice. When God saw this He spoke to Cain and warned him saying ‘‘If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” (Gen 4:7 ESV). But Cain chose to reject God’s warning, refused to rule over sin, and eventually murdered his brother Abel. God again came to him and asked, ‘‘where is Abel your brother?’’, but even at this, Cain showed no remorse but responded arrogantly, ‘‘I don’t know, am I my brother’s keeper?’’. Because he chose to reject God willfully, God cursed him and sent him out of His presence (Gen 4:11-12), even after this he would not ask God for forgiveness, he left the presence of God instead and started a civilization that was against God (Gen 4:16). Esau and Jacob were also children of the same parents, Esau sold his birthright to Jacob and Jacob eventually stole Esau’s blessing (Gen 27:36). Esau became angry and sought to kill Jacob his brother, but when he heard his father’s word concerning his future (Gen 27:40) he changed his mind concerning his plan and in the cause of time, he also became great (Gen 33:4-9). Anyone who refuses God’s forgiveness by willfully continuing in sin has chosen the path of destruction. Hebrews 2:3 (KJV) ‘‘How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him” Go into today knowing that to willfully continue in sin is to willfully depart from the presence and covering of God. Changed Outlook
Romans 8:6-9 (NET) For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace, because the outlook of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to the law of God, nor is it able to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to him. When Ugochukwu became born again, he realized that he was no longer comfortable with the things he used to do as an unbeliever. No one told him when he deleted most of the unwholesome videos on his phone. He just knew keeping them was wrong and dangerous to his new life in Christ. He also knew that the songs he had were no longer appropriate for him, so he deleted all the songs on his phone and laptop. He had a girlfriend and they were deeply in love, but he knew that the foundation that relationship and everything about it was sinful, so he called off the relationship. Ugochukwu did all this because the Spirit of God was now within him and he yielded to the leading of the Spirit. He was told by the person who led him to Christ that yielding to the Holy Spirit is the only way to live this new born-again life. One of the major things the Spirit of God will do within a believer is to change his outlook to life from that of the flesh to that of the Spirit. Every human being was born with the outlook of the flesh and lives to please himself. But when you become born again, by the word of God and the Spirit of God, that outlook is changed to one that seeks to please God. Prayer: Lord, help me live to please you and be fruitful in every good work. Amen. —Abraham Damilola ArigiYBR: Psalms 60-62 Get sermons here: www.streamglobe.org/34 Join Our Interactive Online Bible Study Today by 2pm (GMT +1). Our Gospel is Heaven Centric

Colossians 1:5 (NET) Your faith and love have arisen from the hope laid up for you in heaven, which you have heard about in the message of truth, the gospel When Karen first heard the gospel, she was a teenager in high school and was not interested in it because it appeared to her that if she accepted the gospel, she was not going to live and enjoy the kind of life she had always desired to live. The believers in her school were so centered on heaven and the kingdom of God that it seemed to her that they did not want to enjoy life here on earth. After thirty years, Karen had lived life, but she was empty, sad, depressed, and unfulfilled. She had made a lot of money, traveled the world, and lived the kind of life she believed would give her satisfaction, but she found that the more she searched for satisfaction, the more she discovered that she had not found it. She observed that those her high school friends who believed in Jesus and remained were the ones that seemed truly fulfilled and happy in life. Some of them did not have much, but there was this joy and peace they had that words cannot describe. Karen was willing to give anything to enjoy such peace. After deciding to try Jesus out, she started attending church services and was now desiring for a personal relationship with the Lord. The first few churches she visited did not seem to have the answer. All they talked about was “success”, “breakthrough”, and such things, but that was not what she was looking for. She wanted that sincere gospel she heard as a little girl. She knew in her heart that that simple sincere gospel had the answer to the hunger of her soul. After visiting a small church for one of her high school friend’s retirement thanksgiving, in that little church, she encountered the gospel. This gospel was one that was heaven centric. She saw that their desire in that church was to please the Lord and fulfill His purpose for them on the earth. Even though the members of that church were not wretched, and some of them were really well to do, she could see that in that church, money was not their god. Do you notice from today’s Bible verse that the hope of our faith [and love] is laid up in heaven and not on the earth? This earth [and this realm] is too limited to accommodate and express the riches and glory of our inheritance as saints. When believers are earthly-minded and worldly, it limits their capacity to experience and radiate the joy and peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Go into today remembering that even though we are to live fruitful lives on the earth, we are to be heavenly minded by setting our affection on things above and not on things of this life (see Colossians 3:2). Prayer: Lord, deliver me from the temptation to squander my faith and hope on the mundane things of this life. Help me to keep my heart stayed on you so that I would enjoy your perfect peace (Isiah 26:3). Want to be saved? How do one sin willfully?

Hebrews 10:26-27 (KJV) For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary ‘willful’ is, ‘‘refusing to change your ideas or opinions or to stop doing something’’ while to refuse is, ‘‘to say that you will not accept”. Sinning willfully, therefore, is refusing to stop sinning even when you know it to be a sin; you continue in it not because you can not stop but because you chose to continue. Judas Iscariot for instance was not forced to betray Jesus, he did it willfully in the same manner that Adam disobeyed God. His unbridled love of money gave room for the devil to enter him. He was a thief who refused to repent even when a disciple of the Lord Jesus. In Matt 17:22, Jesus told his disciples that he will be betrayed, yet after hearing this Judas still sought an opportunity to betray him (Matt 26:16). In Matt 26:21, Jesus again said, ‘‘one of you will betray me’’ and in Matt 26:23, Jesus said, “He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me”. But in spite of all these, Judas Iscariot’s mind was made up to betray Jesus. Even at the very last minute, Jesus gave him another opportunity to repent when he said ‘‘Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” (Luke 22:48), even at this, Judas Iscariot refused to change and would not stop the evil he had planned. Just like it happened with Adam, Judas was banished out of the presence of God. Unfortunately, unlike Adam, Judas killed himself without repenting. This is exactly what today’s text is saying: when you willfully refuse all the chances given to you by God to repent, you are walking on the path leading to destruction. Hebrews 2:3 (KJV) ‘‘How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him”. Thank God for all the opportunities he has given you to turn away from your sins. Examine yourself and receive the help of the Holy Spirit to willfully turn away from sin today. Prayer: confess all the sins for which the Holy Spirit has convicted you, forsake them, and receive the forgiveness of God. Want to be saved? Hidden Wisdom
1 Corinthians 2:7 (NKJV) But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory A certain wealthy man traveled for a very long time. He left a great wonderful estate for his children. This estate was filled with all kinds of great and wonderful machines that were designed to do all kinds of great and wonderful things for his children. But by the time he traveled, his children were still too young so they could not read the manual that would help them utilize the house and machines. They would have to grow up and learn how to read before they can possess their possessions. The wealthy man engaged a teacher who would help his children through this. There were all kinds of smart domestic animals in the estate, but no matter how smart the animals became, and no matter how old they grew, they could never read and understand the manual because it was written in a language higher than their comprehension. The wisdom of God is encrypted in a code that only and He and His children can decode. It is only the mature, those schooled by the Spirit of God and transformed into the image of Christ, that will be able to decode this mystery. That is why it is through the Church that the manifold wisdom of God will be shown to principalities(smart animals) and powers (Eph 3:10). It is by this wisdom that we walk in the power and glory of God. It is by this wisdom that things are created and sustained (Prov 3:19, Jer 10:12). Go into today remembering that as a believer in Christ, it is your heritage to walk in God’s wisdom as you submit to the educational system of the Holy Spirit who is our teacher. Thank God for this privilege. Prayer: Thank God for the privilege to walk in His wisdom want to be saved?
