Becoming God’s Friend
James 2:23 (EEV) “And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness—and he was called a friend of God.” Dele and Rachel grew up in the same estate, went to the same high school; they left and returned together and studied the same course in the university. This made many who knew them to think they’ll be best of friends and end up as husband and wife, but that didn’t happen. Dele wanted it to; he even told his friends that nothing would stop him from marrying Rachel. But Rachel wasn’t interested, this became evident when she brought her fiance home. “What happened?, Why?” were some of the questions asked by the people who had looked forward to seeing Dele and Rachel get married. When Rachel caught a glimpse of their questions, she replied, “We could have been friends, but who wants to be friends with someone who does only what he likes? There was nothing I ever requested that he did if it wasn’t his idea”. God is always interested in making us His friend, so He gives us instructions to test if we are willing to accept His offer. It is our response to these instructions that will determine whether he can trust us or not. In Genesis 26:3-5 (KJV), God had this to say concerning Abraham to Isaac, “Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; and I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. You see, Abraham obtained the reputation of “friend of God” because he trusted God and obeyed God’s voice; kept His charge, commandments, statutes, and laws. If you do the same, you will also become a friend of God. Prayer: Lord, please give me a heart that obeys your voice and keeps your charge, commandments, statutes, and laws in Jesus’ name. Wait On The Lord
Psalms 25:5 (KJV) “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.” When you wait on the Lord, you will be transformed. The idea here is that your nature gets lost in His. He takes away your shame and disgrace and clothes you with honor. This is why the Psalmist says that not one person who waits for the Lord will be disgraced. (Psalm 25:3). Also, you receive guidance when you wait on Him (Ps 25:5). You can’t lose your way or miss the mark if you are waiting on the Lord. Waiting has to do with patience. You see, He won’t teach you if you are in a hurry. Sometimes you need to wait all day long if necessary to be taught. You will experience His salvation as you wait for Him. Integrity and uprightness are God’s character which He imparts on you as you wait for Him. (Ps. 25:21). Waiting on the Lord brings you to a point and place where you get bound together (like a twine) with God. You exchange your weakness for His strength. He changes your mindset and this leads to a change of vocabulary. When you speak like Him, the heavens become your transmission station. Dear believer, wait on the Lord patiently and prayerfully this season. He will surely turn to you and hear your cry for help. Prayer: Pray for grace to wait on the Lord this season. —Otuokon, Ubokudom Yearly Bible Plan: Ecclesiastes 11-12 Streamglobe is nondenominational. True Spiritual Enlightenment
1 Corinthians 12:1 (YLT)And concerning the spiritual things, brethren, I do not wish you to be ignorant Ikenna got himself into a lot of trouble because in trying to seek the Lord and walk in His great power, unknown to him, he was using methods born out of spiritual knowledge that is not from the kingdom of God. This exposed him to wicked spirits that invaded his mind beyond his control. Through the help of more mature believers, he was delivered and restored. If a person’s spiritual adventure is guided by the confession of a former witch or sorcerer, he may come in contact with darkness when seeking light because he is using methods that dark spirits know how to exploit. Knowledge concerning spiritual things is very common in our world today. There are many books and materials out there that claim to enlighten one concerning spiritual things, but most of them don’t give enlightenment at all. They are manipulations by the Prince of this world to keep people under spiritual bondage, but fill their heads with powerless knowledge. Anyone who is truly spiritually enlightened will seek to be saved. There are some that seek to use spiritual principles obtained from darkness to navigate in the kingdom of light. The ways of the kingdom of God are very different from the ways of any other kingdom. The Corinthians that Paul was writing to were very vast in spiritual understanding because they used to be very experienced ‘spiritually enlightened’ Idol worshipers to the core (see 1 Corinthians 12:2), but apostle Paul referred to them as being spiritually ignorant. The spiritual knowledge they had in darkness was not an advantage for them in their new spiritual adventure in the kingdom of light. They needed to unlearn many things in order to learn the right things. Go into today knowing that the Bible is our spiritual manual. The easiest way to be guided by the leading of the Holy Spirit is to understand the book He inspired from start to finish–The Bible. —Abraham Damilola Arigi BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 137-139 Streamglobe is nondenominational. His Glorious Unlimited Resources
Ephesians 3:16-17 (NLT) “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvellous love.” Our Lord’s resources are glorious and unlimited. If you are connected to Him, you will never run out of supply of inner strength because it is supplied from a source that is limitless. You can only connect to this glorious, unlimited resources through the Holy Spirit. Our Lord desires to empower you with inner strength from His glorious unlimited resources through His Spirit. As He empowers you with inner strength through His Spirit, He will make His home in your heart as you trust Him. However, for Jesus to make His home in your heart, there is a condition – John 14:23. (ISV) Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. Then my Father will love him, and we will go to him and make our home within him.” Dear believer, this empowerment will give you the strength to love Him by keeping His word, because you can’t really obey His word by your limited human strength. This empowerment will put love for Him in your heart and will give you the ability to trust Him. His empowering you with inner strength through His Spirit, and Christ taking up residence in your heart as you trust Him will result in your root growing down into God’s love and continuous supply of spiritual stamina. Pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources, He will give you mighty inner strength through His Spirit. —Otuokon, Ubokudom Yearly Bible Plan: Nehemiah 1-4 Streamglobe is nondenominational. The Spirit of Truth
John 16:13 (ISV) “Yet when the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own accord, but will speak whatever he hears and will declare to you the things that are to come.” Every single day presents to us opportunities to make choices and decisions. Where you are today is a result of all the choices and decisions you made in past years. As a believer, you will daily be confronted with opportunities to choose or decide to stand for the Lord Jesus or to turn your back on Him. In that very hour when you come face to face with such options, the decisions you will make will be dependent on the truth you know. When you succumb to temptation and sin, you are turning your back on Jesus. When you decide to honor the Lord Jesus and refuse to give in to that temptation no matter the cost, you have chosen to stand for the Lord Jesus. But, you see, in the hour of temptation, the devil does not fill your mind with hatred for God, but rather he makes you forget the laws of God temporarily. If you forget the word of God in the hour of temptation, it implies that the word of God is not dwelling in your heart richly, and you are defenseless against the devil. One of the reasons you need the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Truth is that He will bring to your mind the truth you need just at the very minute you need it, whether little or much. All the forces of darkness want to obscure the truth in the hour of temptation and confuse you. But the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit, will bring to your remembrance whatever measure of truth you need to be faithful and choose Jesus above every other thing no matter the cost. This will only happen if you allow Him to lead you. Dear believer, open your heart to Him today and welcome Him. He is the Spirit of Truth, He will lead you into all truth. Knowing the Lord 5
2 Peter 1:2 (KJV) Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord Clement Amadi came from a very blessed family and everyone in his village acknowledged that his family was especially blessed. All of them were born again and very prosperous and successful in their various pursuits. They used to say in their village that “may God bless us like he blessed the Amadi family”. The first doctor, first lawyer, and first pilot in their community came from the Amadi family. Their family built a free hospital with state of the art equipment for the community. Records have it that when the European missionaries first came to that community, their great grandfather was the only one in the village who believed and welcomed them into his home. Because of this, the peace of God was made to rest in that home and several years later it manifested in ways that brought envy from the rest of the villagers. The peace of God, just like the grace of God, is a spiritual substance that causes things to go well and prosperously. Jesus told his apostles that when they go to a community and find a house that is worthy, their peace can rest upon that house, but if the house is not worthy, their peace will come back to them (see Matthew 10:13). We see in Philippians 4:6 that when we pray, this substance called the peace of God will mount guard in hearts. The knowledge of God does not just multiply grace, it also multiplies peace. Because of this peace, everything in your life will work according to God’s plan. You will prosper in all that you do and be fruitful in every good work. Go into today asking the Lord to help you know him more. The fulfillment of your Divine destiny depends on this. Prayer: Lord, give me a hunger and thirst for you that would not go away. Help me give myself to disciplines that would help me know you more this year. Amen. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Bible Plan: I John 1-3 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Knowing The Lord 4
Daniel 11:32 (KJV) And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. Sandra was now a threat to the witches in her neighborhood because she was now getting spiritually strong. The reason for this strength was her growing knowledge of the Lord. Some of the women in the neighborhood who used to be very nice to her all of a sudden became unpleasant and rude. One of them told her to her face that “shouldn’t you be worried that you are not yet married at your age?” They observed that Sandra was growing in the knowledge of the Lord and they wanted to slow her down by making her depressed and frustrated. But their plan did not work because the Lord told her she would be entering a relationship very soon and getting married soon. If they were able to succeed to get her into depression, they would have been able to slow down her growth and growing strength. The devil understands that the more you spend time with the Lord, the more you will know Him, and you will be more powerful as a result. He will do everything to detract and discourage you from the place of fellowship. We should not be unaware of the devices of the devil. Go into today remembering that no matter what happens, your time of fellowship with the Lord should not be compromised. Don’t let the devil discourage you through circumstances or people who are under his control. Prayer: Lord, help me give myself consistently to disciplines that will help me grow in my knowledge of you. The Mind of Christ
1 Corinthians 2:16 (KJV) “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” The human brain has great potentials. In the words of Kent Hughes, “it is capable of giving and receiving the subtlest input – from imagining a universe in which time bends, to creating a polyphonic texture of a Bach fugue, or transmitting and receiving a message from God Himself – feats no computer will ever accomplish”. Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, the human mind has the capacity to reach its highest potential which is the possibility of possessing the mind of Christ. No computer will ever be able to think God’s thoughts, nor will any device ever be able to know the heart of God or do His works. But the human mind has this capacity. Indeed it was created for this, to have the mind of Christ. This leads us to examine the great scandal of today’s church: Christians without Christian minds. In other words, Christians who do not think “Christianly”. One of the reasons many Christians today do not have Christian minds (or the mind of Christ) is that they don’t pay attention to what gets into their minds. If you want to have a Christian mind, you must take control of your mind – what comes in and what goes out. Input determines output. You can never have a Christian mind if you spend all your leisure time in front of a television. To have a Christian mind, you must cultivate the habit of reading the scriptures regularly because you can only be profoundly influenced by what you know. If you are filled with God’s word, your life will be informed and directed by God. Dear believer, go into today knowing that it is within your reach, and indeed your duty to have the mind of Christ. Knowing The Lord 2
2 Peter 1:2 (KJV) Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord Sandra lived in a neighborhood where there were many witches but she did not know this, but as she began to grow in her knowledge of the Lord and of His voice, she realized that her neighborhood was bewitched, and many people who lived in that neighborhood were under the manipulation of the spirit of immorality. Most of her unmarried neighbors were living in sin and shame (with unmarried partners). She also found that previously, she struggled unusually to keep herself pure in that area. But as she started to talk more to the Lord(and not merely send prayers to heaven), her discernment became heightened and she could perceive the bewitchment in her neighborhood. She broke herself free from it and started praying for her neighbors who had been overpowered by that spell, some of whom used to be fervent believers before they moved to that neighborhood. Sandra became a light in her community because she became deliberate in her pursuit of the knowledge of God. One of the benefits of growing in the knowledge of God is that His grace in our lives will be multiplied, and our spiritual gifts are powered by this grace (Romans 12:6). The grace of God is not just God’s unmerited Favour towards us, it is the power of God at work in the life of those who have received this unmerited favor. It can be multiplied and can be great upon people(see Acts 4:33). Go into today desiring an increase of the grace of God upon your life. This grace is what empowers us to fulfill our destinies in God, and the secret to this grace increasing is a growing knowledge of the Lord. Prayer: Lord, help me know you more and walk in greater grace. Amen. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Bible Plan: Ecclesiastes 9-10 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Knowing The Lord 1
2 Peter 1:2 (KJV) Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord Sandra accepted the Lord when she was a teenager, but she didn’t begin to grow in the knowledge of the Lord until she was 26 when she attended a convention and the preacher spoke about the knowledge of God and the numerous benefits, that was when Sandra now wanted to grow in the knowledge of God. Before that day she heard the sermon on knowing God, she was a very religious and pious Christian, but she had no personal relationship with the Lord. She said a prayer every morning when she woke up and said another every night before she slept. But now that she realized that the Lord is a person that she can know personally, and her ability to be strong and do exploits are tied to her knowledge of the Lord, she started taking out time to pray and study the word. She was now more committed to spending time with the Lord through prayers and personal Bible study. As a result of this, Sandra observed that she was no more as fearful as she used to be, and was no more as sickly as she used to be. The secret of our strength as believers is knowing the Lord. Being a believer without knowing the lord personally is like being a student without knowing how to read and write. Go into this year being deliberate and intentional about knowing the Lord. Scripture says draw near to God and He will draw near to you (see James 4:8, Jeremiah 29:12-13). You are the one to start the process of drawing near before the Holy Spirit takes over.
