False Prophets
Matthew 24:11-12 (KJV)And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. After suffering greatly in the hand of a particular false prophet, Bimbo was now generally cold towards ministers of the gospel and believers. She fell prey to that false prophet because he was claiming to be a genuine man of God who preaches holiness and righteousness, but ultimately was a charlatan who used witchcraft to turn people like her into his personal ATM. Because of the things she had experienced, her love for the body of Christ had grown cold. She didn’t trust anybody again and was now closed-hearted and tight-fisted towards the work of God. I believe it is no coincidence that after the Lord Jesus talks about many false prophets rising that He informs us that iniquity shall abound. Every church assembly is meant to be the light of its territory(see Rev 1:20, Matt 5:14), but through the invasion of false prophets claiming to be men of God, what is meant to bring territorial light becomes darkness, and if the light [of a territory] becomes darkness, how great is that darkness! (Matt 6:23). One of the most effective ways to identify false prophets is by their fruits in relation to money. They serve mammon and not God. Money is more important to them than the souls of men. What then is the solution? Believers must beware of false prophets (Matt 7:15). Do not follow people because of signs and wonders, but follow them because the words they speak impart life to your righteous spirit (see John 6:63, 68). False prophets can perform lying wonders and magic, but cannot impart the life of the Holy Spirit into their words. Go into today remembering that it is not a light thing before the Lord for the love of a believer to wax cold. The Lord’s first letter to the Churches makes this clear (see Rev 2:4-5). Prayer focus: Revelation 2:5 (KJV) Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In One Year: Matthew 8-10 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is interdenominational and nondenominational. Foundational Truths 3
Hebrews 6:1-2 (NET) Therefore we must progress beyond the elementary instructions about Christ and move on to maturity, not laying this foundation again: repentance from dead works and faith in God, teaching about baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. Patrick didn’t know that the baptism in the Holy Spirit was given to empower the believer. He thought all it does is to give us the ability to speak in tongues. After he received the baptism in the Holy Spirit, he noticed that he was no longer as shy as he used to be. He now had the boldness to preach the gospel to his old friends he was afraid of telling that he was now born again. From experience, he observed that the infilling of the Holy Ghost does much more than to simply give us the ability to speak in tongues, it is our enduement with power. He also observed that when he prayed in tongues, this power was generated within him (1 Corinthians 14:4). The Lord Jesus told His disciples that they would receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon them, and then they would be witnesses unto Him(Acts 1:8). I don’t know if the disciples expected to speak in tongues when they received the infilling of the Holy Spirit, but one thing they surely expected was divine empowerment. This empowerment was the reason why fearful Peter that denied Jesus thrice in the city of Jerusalem could stand boldly in that same city and PREACH Jesus. This power was the reason the apostles and disciples walked in the miraculous, etc. The empowerment of the Holy Spirit is so we can be effective witnesses unto the Lord. It is not given to us as a Christian accessory. If there is no willingness to be a witness unto the Lord, there is no readiness for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Go into today remembering that the baptism of the Holy Ghost empowers us to fulfill our destinies in God. Every believer who desires this empowerment must be determined to be a witness unto the Lord. Prayer: Lord, please empower me to fulfill my destiny in you. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In One Year: Isaiah 18-22 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is interdenominational and nondenominational. Foundational Truths 2
Hebrews 6:1-2 (KJV) Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Even though Patrick had already been baptized in water, it had little relevance and carried little power for him because he did not understand what it stood for and why it was necessary. He thought the purpose of water baptism was “to fulfill all righteousness”. He also believed that the purpose of baptism in the Holy Spirit was so believers would speak in tongues. He knew nothing about the baptism of fire. He was not taught about these things and because of his ignorance, he could not connect with the power they brought. The baptisms are a channel of divine power into the life of the believer. Believers lay hold on this power through faith furnished by understanding. Baptism in water disconnects us from our old life so that we would be empowered to walk in the newness of life. Baptism in the Holy Ghost empowers us while baptism of fire purifies us so we can be used for greater things by God (2 Timothy 2:21). When we believe in Jesus, we die to our old life and should put on the new life. Our spiritual burial is marked by our water baptism. Through it, every record of darkness concerning us is erased and we are brought into the expectation of the resurrection. We died with Christ(through faith), are buried with Him through [water] baptism, and would be resurrected just like Him because we have gone through the first two processes with Him. Go into today meditating on the following verses: Romans 6:3-5 (NET) Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may live a new life. For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will certainly also be united in the likeness of his resurrection. Prayer: Thank you Father for the mystery and power of the baptisms. Please help me make the most of them and walk in the newness of life in Jesus’ name. Amen. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In One Year: Job 7-8 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is interdenominational and nondenominational. Pay Attention to Sound Teaching
1 Timothy 4:16 (KJV) Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. As Linda grew in her walk with the Lord, she realized that the more of God’s word she understood, the more it purified her, and the result was a closer walk with God. For example, Linda used to make promises without fulfilling them, and she didn’t take her words very seriously. But as she continued to learn the word, she realized that she was not living in God’s perfect will by being unfaithful with her words. As she adjusted and became more truthful, she found that the power of God could now be expressed through the words of her mouth. One evening, she was sitting outside near the car porch when her sister drove in. Because of the excitement of seeing her, her sister forgot to engage the auxiliary brake before exiting the car. As soon as she came out of the car, the car started moving away and was heading toward a nearby wall with increasing speed because the place was slopy. Linda simply said “I command you to stop”, and instantly, the car stopped. This was one of the many examples of how God’s power could now be expressed through Linda’s words because her tongue was now sanctified. In today’s Bible verse, we see Apostle Paul telling Timothy that by continuing in the doctrine [of Christ], he would save himself and those who hear him. It was by continuing in The Doctrine that Linda’s tongue was saved and was now made a vessel that could give expression to the power of God. Any believer who does not pay attention to sound teaching will live a life that is not truly saved from the power and dominion of sin. After accepting Christ, It is by receiving the engrafted word that our souls are saved from the entanglements of old sins (see James 1:21). Go into today remembering to pay attention to sound teaching. Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you pay attention to sound teaching and lose appetite for any teaching that is not sound. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In One Year: Psalms 9-11 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is interdenominational and nondenominational. Faith Toward God
Hebrews 6:1 (KJV) Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God Clara was born again, but she lived in a society that was deeply humanistic. This society existed as if there was no God. God was not a factor in the governance or ideals of that society. Clara did not know that society was trying to condition faith out of her heart. She felt she really did not need God in her daily life because “man can fix his own problems” ( forgetting that “there is more to life than food and raiment”). But because she was a believer who now had the understanding the Holy gives, she saw that in spite of how physically affluent her society was, there was deep moral and spiritual poverty. Most of the young people lived depressed, miserable lives, and suicide was a widespread practice in that society. She saw firsthand how foolish it was for a society to exist without the consciousness of God. Faith towards God makes a believer live daily in the consciousness of God’s commanding presence. This is the real reason why we don’t continue in sin. The more conscious a believer is of God’s presence, the more difficult it would be for him to sin. After the faith that brought us under the Lordship of Christ and led to our repentance, it is important that we live our lives in the consciousness of the commanding presence of Almighty God. We should also live with the understanding that God is not just present but he is King and controller of all things. Nothing happens without His knowledge, and He causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose(see Romans 8:28). This is the reason why we are to do all things in the name of the Lord (Colossians 3:17). Go into today remembering that faith in God means living your life with the consciousness of God’s presence and sovereignty. Those who live and make their choices as if God does not exist do not have faith, no matter how religious they are. Prayer: Lord, let every moment of my life be dominated by the consciousness of Your presence. Repentance From Dead Works 3
Acts 19:18-20 (NET) Many of those who had believed came forward, confessing and making their deeds known.Large numbers of those who had practiced magic collected their books and burned them up in the presence of everyone. When the value of the books was added up, it was found to total fifty thousand silver coins. In this way the word of the Lord continued to grow in power and to prevail. After Nosa accepted the Lord Jesus, he did proper sanitation of his phone and media devices. No one told him when he sat down for over an hour and deleted many of the videos and songs on his mobile devices that did not honor the Lord. He also publicly informed his friends on social media about his new status as a child of God. He did this because he wanted to identify with the Lord publicly and put his friends on notice. It worked. They gave him space and stopped attempting to lure him back to his old life. Nosa grew rapidly because of this (after he got rid of the doctrine and feeling of condemnation). In today’s Bible verses, we see a manifestation of repentance from dead works. Those who had previously practiced magic came forward and burned their books. They couldn’t continue to possess those books while claiming to be believers in the Lord Jesus. The books were expensive, but their value didn’t matter to those new believers. We see that the word of God grew mightily in their midst and prevailed because of this. Many people don’t reap the full benefits of God’s word because they do not fully repent of dead works. They believe in Jesus but still want to hold onto the “benefits” of their past life. It doesn’t work like that. Go into today remembering that if a person truly believes, they would repent of their sins and forsake them. Lack of true repentance is a major reason the word of God does not have a full course in the life of some believers. Remember that everything we receive from God is through His word. Prayer: Lord, reveal to me every area of needed repentance so I may walk in the fulness of your will for me. Repentance From Dead Works 2
Hebrews 6:1 (NET) Therefore we must progress beyond the elementary instructions about Christ and move on to maturity, not laying this foundation again: repentance from dead works and faith in God Nosa wasn’t sure he was accepted before God because he was told that God does not like tattoos and he had quite a few before he believed in the Lord Jesus. He was wrongly made to believe that God has not yet accepted him even though he had believed, but that he would have to labor to be accepted by the Lord. Even though the people teaching him had noble intentions to teach him about sanctification and holiness, they ended up instilling in him the tendency to depend on dead works and not the works of Jesus Christ as the basis for his salvation. By the time a believer begins to believe that his acceptance before God is based on anything apart from the works of Jesus, he needs to repent from dead works. As believers, we are to live holy and consecrated lives before God, but not as our basis for acceptance but because we have already been accepted. The advantage of deeper consecration is better fellowship and intimacy, not relationship and acceptance. Only those who have new birth are called to the higher life of consecration so they can be prepared for the Lord’s good use( see 2 Timothy 2:20-22). Go into today remembering that a system that directly or indirectly engenders dead works cannot produce true holiness. The proof of true holiness is power with God born out of intimacy, not religious conformity born out of fear. Prayer: Lord, deliver me from all dead works and help me walk in the fullness of your plan for me. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In One Year: Romans 7-8 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Repentance From Dead Works
Hebrews 6:1 (KJV) Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Patrick was a believer in Christ Jesus but he still depended on his ability to please God as the basis for his righteousness. Whenever he missed the mark, he felt condemned and rejected. He felt he had lost his right standing with God and God didn’t want to have anything to do with him. Even though Patrick had repented of sinful works of the flesh, he had not fully repented of dead works because he still trusted in his performance as the basis for his right standing with God. When through a sermon, he discovered that his right standing with God was based solely on the person and sacrifice of Christ, he was free from the spirit of condemnation and could now have a smooth walk with the Lord. There are two categories of [spiritual] works that men do. There are good works(Ephesians 2:10) and there are dead works(Hebrews 6:1). Good works are a product of the life of God within you. Only God is good(Luke 18:19) and good works can only be done by God and those who are born of God. Dead works are works that do not count before God. After the sacrifice of Jesus, the works of the law became dead works. The works of the flesh are also dead works because they are the product of the satanic nature that we acquired through the fall, and this nature produces death(Romans 8:13). Many believers understand that the works of the flesh are dead works, but do not understand that the works of the law are also dead works. The works of the law were things that people did in order to obtain righteousness with God. The ten commandments and the precepts of God cannot be categorized as the works of the law because they were not a means of gaining righteousness with God, they were a code of living for those who have gained righteousness with God through the works(sacrifices) of the law. That principle still applies today for those who have obtained righteousness with God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We are not without law but under the law of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 9:21). Go into today remembering that now, apart from faith in Christ Jesus, anything a person does in order to earn the righteousness of God is nothing but dead works. Your right standing with God is primarily because of what Christ did for you and your faith in Him as the Lord. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In One Year: Matthew 5-7 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Foundational Truths 1
Patrick had a very unstable spiritual life. One day he would be hot another day cold. He could not find a year in which his spiritual life was stable for up to six months. Because he was interested in serving the Lord and fulfilling purpose and divine destiny, he became really disturbed because despite all his efforts; fastings and tears, his spiritual life continued to be like a pendulum. Hot today, cold tomorrow. Many believers are like Patrick and it isn’t their fault. The problem is a faulty foundation. Just like with any building, the Foundation of your Christian doctrine will determine how stable your spiritual life will be. Our Lord Jesus likened those who built their lives according to His Word as a wise man who built his house on a sure foundation — the rock(see Matthew 7:24-27). Apostle Paul referred to the believers in Corinth as God’s building(1 Corinthians 3:9). He also referred to himself as a wise master builder who laid the foundation(1 Corinthians 3:10). Apostle Paul understood that his specialty was to lay the foundation of Christian doctrine. In today’s scripture, we see the six components that form the foundation of Christian doctrine. If a believer is deficient in understanding these, he has a faulty foundation and might find cracks and instability in his building. Repentance from dead works is a very important element of the Christian foundation. I have heard certain modern preachers teach that repentance doesn’t have to do with one’s conduct but just with a change of mind towards God. That’s only half true. There is repentance towards God and, as we see in today’s scripture, “repentance from dead works”. If a person begins to believe in God but does not forsake his sinful ways, he has not truly believed. Go into today remembering that if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? Many believers(who have been declared righteous because of faith in Christ) are struggling spiritually because of a faulty foundation. Prayer: Lord, in this season, please do remedial work in the foundation of many. Amen. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In One Year: Isaiah 12-17 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. The Spirit Filled Life
Philippians 4:8 (NET) Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things. After Olamide was filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, she felt so much joy and liberty in her heart that she determined to do everything it took to stay filled with the Holy Spirit at all times. She had read teachings about being filled with the spirit several times but she wanted a practical guide to actually walk in a spirit-filled life. She realized that what she allowed to dwell in her mind was key to controlling the mood of her heart. Today’s Bible verse became a guide for her. I have come to notice that a heavy and depressed countenance does not engender a spirit-filled life. If you put on the television or read the newspaper, you will notice that most of the news there will attempt to take away your joy and send you to a mood of depression or sadness. It is good to be informed by the news, but guard your heart and don’t let it control your countenance. If you ponder on the behavior of many people you have to deal with(even certain Christians), you would realize that being joyful does not come naturally. But we are instructed to “rejoice in the Lord always”(see Phil 4:4). The spirit-filled life is a joy-filled life (read Ephesians 5: 19-21). This is not because there are no sorrows in the world or things that can keep us depressed and moody, but because the presence of God the Holy Spirit within us is bigger than anything that is happening outside us. What we focus on will determine the outcomes of our lives. Today’s Bible verse instructs us on the things we should ponder upon. Do not let your mind dwell long on thoughts that do not inspire thanksgiving and praise. Discipline your mind to always find the good in every situation and dwell on it. Find a reason to give thanks in all things because this is the will of God for us in Christ Jesus. Go into today remembering that the Spirit-filled life is a joy and thanksgiving-filled life. You cannot control the Holy Spirit but you control what your mind ponders on which in turn controls your mood and determines whether you will be Spirit-filled or not. Prayer: Lord, help me lead a spirit-filled life, In Jesus’ name. Amen —Abraham Damilola ArigiBible In One Year: Job 5-6 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational.
