The Power of the Gospel

1 Corinthians 4:20 (NET) For the kingdom of God is demonstrated not in idle talk but with power. One of the most remarkable things about true faith in the Lord Jesus is the power it produces. I have seen drug addicts delivered from their addiction because of the power of the cross. I have seen very vile sinners transformed into holy saints because of the power of the cross. People who everyone (including their family members) gave up on have become useful members of their families and societies because of the power of the cross. But this power is only released when people receive the kingdom of God and not merely a gospel that excludes the kingdom life. When people receive a gospel that excludes repentance and submission to the authority of Christ, what they received is not the gospel of the kingdom of God but merely exciting idle talk, and the power of God does not accompany that kind of gospel. But when the gospel of the kingdom is preached, the power of Christ is deployed to bring people out of the domain of darkness into the kingdom of Christ. Certain arrogant teachers arose in the Corinthian church (see 1 Cor 4:19), and these teachers preached a gospel that excluded the kingdom of God. They were partly responsible for the sorry state of the Corinthian church when Paul penned 1 Corinthians. He had to admonish the church about the conduct of those who inherit the kingdom of God (see 1 Cor 6:9-10). Go into today remembering that the gospel of the kingdom of God is one that establishes righteousness in the life of the believer, peace with God and with his neighbors, and is one that celebrates the Holy Ghost (see Rom 14:17). —SD Abraham Bible in 1 Year: Luke 23-24 (in today’s audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Hidden with Christ In God

Colossians 3:1-3 (KJV) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Jamie realized that he was only boasting without power, it was almost too late. He had boasted before a certain notorious witch in his neighborhood that her dark powers could not hurt him because his life was hidden in Christ. But he was not living under the authority of Christ but was living as though Christ existed to please him. He was so afflicted by the power of that witch that he needed to call some of his brethren to pray for him because life was leaving him. After they prayed for him, he realized that he needed to humble himself and be discipled by them. One of the first things he learned from them was that he needed to live the crucified life. He needed to come to terms with the fact that His life no longer existed to please himself but to please God alone. From the last part of today’s scripture, we can see that it is when we are dead that our lives are hidden with Christ in God. When we die to the old life of pleasing ourselves, we would awaken to the new life that is hidden with Christ in God. The life that is hidden with Christ in God is not the self-pleasing life but the new life that is allowed to spring forth because the old life has been crucified and buried(see Romans 6:1-4). Go into today remembering that our guarantee for ultimate security is living the crucified life that allows the life and power of Christ to manifest. —SD Abraham Yearly Plan: Proverbs 13 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. God’s Educational System

Titus 2:11-13 (NET) For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people. It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. After Byrum believed in the Lord Jesus, he was baptized in the Holy Ghost, and as a result, was empowered by the Spirit to overcome his addictions and live a godly life. This happened because he submitted to the instructions of righteousness given to him by his pastor. He had to change his apartment because his neighbor was his drug dealer. He had to leave his old friends and totally disconnect from his old way of living. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and was taught to stay filled. In this way, his body was empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit(Romans 8:11) and he could cope with the withdrawal from the drugs. He spent a lot of time praying and singing in the Spirit because he needed to stay filled with the spirit. The infilling of the Holy Spirit affects even our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11). One of the things the grace of God would teach us is that “bad company corrupts…(see 1 Corinthians 15:33). Those who are taught by grace become very particular about the company they keep. They guard their hearts with all diligence by guarding the information they feed into it. We saw yesterday that the grace of God trains us or teaches us how to reject ungodly ways and fleshly lusts. There are very practical things we must be willing to do in keeping with the teaching of grace. We must be willing to forsake our worldly ways and deny the flesh. Go into today remembering that as a student of grace, you have to be willing to obey the demands of God’s kingdom for your life. This is the only way to allow the divine life to excel over the old life. Prayer: Heavenly Father, please lead me to your green pastures and help me be fed and led by your living word. Help me to live a godly and fruitful life. In Jesus’ name. Amen. —SD Abraham Yearly Plan: Proverbs 13 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Strange Teachers

1 Corinthians 4:18-19 (KJV) Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you. But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power. Pastor Jide: stop listening to those pastors, they don’t understand the gospel. They only minister condemnation. Segun: But Pastor, these pastors are the ones who brought the gospel to us with great power from God and caused our entire communities to turn from idols to Christ Jesus. How come you keep saying these same people do not understand the gospel? Segun observed that pastor Jide had no real power in his ministry to make disciples, but he claimed everyone else was wrong and he was right. When Apostle Paul left the Corinthians and moved on to the next mission field, some other apostles like Apollos graciously went to Corinth to help water what Paul had already planted. But there were also other teachers who arose, and these teachers felt they had an understanding of the gospel contrary to what was preached by Paul, Apollos, and the other apostles of the Lord. One thing characterized these teachers; they were full of words but no power, and they were puffed up but had no real spiritual authority. Today, such teachers have arisen in the church. They criticize everyone who does not subscribe to their warped version of the gospel. They are arrogant and have little regard for scriptures (except those that appear to support their doctrines). These teachers are the worst thing that can happen to any true believer who is not yet spiritually mature. Go into today asking the Lord to deliver the church in your nation from false teachers. Ask the Lord to deliver you from the influence of all such teachers. —SD Abraham Bible in 1 Year: Psalms 87-89 (in today’s audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. God’s Unlimited Power

Jeremiah 32:17 (KJV) Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee When Jane experienced her supernatural healing from congenital heart disease, it boosted her faith and she knew that God could do all things. But she often wondered why God didn’t do so much even though He wanted to. She came to realize that many times, the missing link is faith. It is by faith that God’s eternal power is transmitted into time. When it was time to create the heavens and the earth, the Lord God(pre-incarnate Christ) was the first to come into time (Colossians 1:15, John 1:1), and through faith, transmitted God’s eternal power into time. The benefit of abiding in Christ and living the crucified life is that you would now live by the faith of Christ the son of God. Galatians 2:20 says: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” Since you have forsaken your own old life and Christ is now your life, you will now live by His faith and thus enter into the realm of God’s unlimited power. Go into today remembering that the link to God’s unlimited power is the faith of God. We were created in God’s image so we would walk in this faith. The fall disconnected us from God’s divine nature and obscured us from this faith and power. The more you allow the word of God to transform you to the nature of Christ who is the express image of God (Colossians 1:15), you will walk in His faith and excel in His unlimited power. Prayer: Lord Jesus, I know that with you nothing shall be impossible. Please help walk me abide in you and walk in your faith always. —SD Abraham Yearly Plan: II Kings 16-20 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Are You Putting In Your Best?

2 Timothy 2:15(NIV) Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. George was the best graduating student in his set, breaking a twenty-five-year record and becoming the best graduating student ever. When he was asked the secret of his success, he gave a simple response, hard work! Because of this landslide achievement, he was immediately retained in the institution, gained international recognition, and had several other offers. Although George hailed from a simple home, the spotlight came on him and he became a person of reckoning amongst those considered great in his discipline. For George, the secret was simply hard work. Today’s text was Apostle Paul’s admonition to Timothy, asking him to do his best to present himself approved to God as a worker who has no need to be ashamed but rightly handles the word of truth. According to this verse, it is in your power to determine whether you will be a worker approved by God or not. It is also evident that hard work; putting in your utmost is required. You will have to stretch yourself by doing more than the ordinary if you desire to be a worker approved by God. Are you currently putting in your best? if God were to score you today, will he approve of your effort? Go into today pondering on these questions. Prayer: ask the Lord for grace to serve him acceptably with reverence and godly fear. —Dr. Emmanuel James Yearly Plan: Leviticus 19-21(In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Christ is our Life

Colossians 3:2-4 (NET) Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth, for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ (who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him. After Laura had her four children, she was almost inundated by the responsibilities of being a mother and a wife. Her life now practically revolved around her family, especially her children. She left her job, putting her career and ambitions on hold just to take care of the children and homeschool them. Those children were practically her life for the first few years of their lives. Many of us had dreams and ambitions that we believed would land us in a place of glory and praise before men in this world. It is truly difficult for a person with plausible ambitions to receive the truth that he should die to his own ambitions and focus on the vision the Lord has for him. Many times, they may not be mutually exclusive, but there are times that they are. When you receive Christ as Lord and Savior, He practically becomes your life. You now live to please Him and not yourself. You are dead to your old life and now live to please Him alone (see Galatians 2:20). We see in today’s Bible verse that when Christ (who is our life) appears, then we too will be revealed in glory with Him. For now, we have died to all our ambitions for earthly glory and are focused on fulfilling the purpose of Christ which is far better. Being popular or rich in this present world is not our priority (even though some of us will be entrusted with these things as part of the tools needed to execute our peculiar assessments), but serving God and fulfilling His plan is. When the Lord returns to take over the governments of this world and rule for a thousand years, those of us who lived for him would reign with him. The least among us would be wealthier and greater than the wealthiest people this present world system has produced. We would literally inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5). Go into today remembering that if Christ is your life now, you will rule and reign with Him in his eternal kingdom. Leaving your own life and living for Christ is the only way to live in the kingdom(2 Tim 2:12, Rom 8:17, 1 Pet 4:13, Rev 5:10). —Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Plan: I Thessalonians 1-3 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Living the life of Christ

Colossians 3:1-4 (KJV) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. After Henry understood what it meant to set his affection on things above, he no longer lived according to his long nurtured earthly ambition that was ultimately supposed to garner for him the praise of men. He realized that he was dead and his new life is hidden in Christ. His old life was gone and he was no longer living to please himself but only to please the Lord. This was the reason why the power of God could now flow through him freely. Those who abide in Christ are dead to their old lives [of pleasing themselves] and now only live to please the Lord. They no longer plot their lives according to their ambitions nor do they lean on their own understanding(Proverbs 3:5). They now live according to the vision and will of the Lord. As a believer, you can be assured that God’s plans for you are better than your plans for you. God’s vision for you is with a view of eternity, but your best plans for you are factored into time and limited by it. Two thousand years from now, you will still exist, but your own ambitions have no plan for your life then. But if you follow the vision of God for you, your eternal destiny is secured in greatness and glory. Go into today remembering that your old life and all its baggage of ambitions, weaknesses, and pride, is dead. The life that you now live is the life of Christ. You now live in submission to God’s vision, no more according to your own ambitions. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Plan: Luke 21-22 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Set your affection on things above

When Henry accepted the Lord Jesus, he could not understand what it meant when scripture said “set your affection on things above”. He had always lived his life to “meet up with the Joneses” and earn the admiration of men. Most of his decisions in life were calculated to prove a point and gain the praise of men, especially his former classmates. But as he understood the message of today’s Bible passage, he started living his life to gain the praise of heaven rather than the praise of men. He realized that there are things that when he did, heaven rejoiced and his esteem in heaven increased. Our Lord Jesus says there is great rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents (see Luke 15:7). Some believers are always causing rejoicing in heaven because they are soul winners. They are highly esteemed in heaven, and this shows in their level of spiritual authority. Setting your affection on things above means living for the praise of heaven, but setting your affection on the things on earth means living for the praise of [sinful] men. What are you truly living for? Are you living for the praise of men or the commendation of heaven? As you go into today, remember that life should be about pleasing God. If you’re focused on getting God’s commendation, you cannot be focused on getting men’s commendation at the same time. As you focus on pleasing God, your light will so shine before men that they will see your good works and glorify your father in heaven (see Matthew 5:16). Prayer: Lord, help me always remember that life should be about pleasing you. Discerning His Will

Mark 16:16 (NET) The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned. I remember preaching to a young man. While preaching, the power of God came so mightily that through word of knowledge I knew many secret things about him. I told him some of them and that was a sign that led to him confessing the Lord Jesus. I wanted so much to get him baptized and disciple him, but I was led against that. I knew he was not my disciple. As events will unfold in the future, it became clear to me that someone else would be the one to disciple him. The Lord can give you personal instructions that may look outside the norm, but they still will not contradict His will as revealed in scripture. If the Lord restrains you from doing something you think is needful, it is because he has arranged for someone else to do it. I have seen some ministers leave disciples unbaptized, and many quote Apostle Paul who said the Lord did not send him to baptize but only to preach. They forget that the people Paul was writing to were already baptized by the time he wrote to them. To baptize disciples is a commandment of the Lord and everyone who believes should be baptized. (See Matt 28:19). Apostle Paul was not instructed to baptize the Corinthians because the Lord wanted other ministers to baptize and disciple them. The wisdom of the Lord in instructing Paul to only preach was revealed when Paul had to use that as one of his greatest points to prove to the Corinthians that he was not called to disciple them, but Apollos was. He said ‘I planted, Apollos watered… ‘(1 Cor 3:6). Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you rightly discern His will. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Plan: Proverbs 11-12 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational.
