Spiritual Liberty 4

John 8:31-32 (NKJV) Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” When David visited Chide and shared the message of the gospel with him, for the first time in his life, Chide understood it. He was so touched that he began to cry when he realized the sacrifice Jesus made in order to save him. He accepted Christ as his Lord and savior that day. But sadly, Chide did not continue in the word of God because he was not committed to any Christian fellowship where he would hear the word of God and grow. He attended a church where there was very little teaching of the word. Even though Chide now believed in the Lord Jesus, he was not yet free. He was still a slave to sin and to demonic limitations. The reason he was not yet free was that he was not yet a disciple indeed. The way people become disciples of Jesus is by applying themselves to the word of God and growing thereby. The Lord Jesus commanded His apostles to go into the world, preach, and make disciples of all nations (Matt 29:19). People who believe are to be discipled. When people believe in the Lord Jesus, it is important that they are discipled. This is the way chains and yokes of sin are broken forever. Go into today knowing that after believing in the Lord Jesus, you must abide in His word and let it change the way you think (Rom 12:2). This is the only way to receive and maintain true spiritual liberty. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Bible Reading: Genesis 32-35 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Be Welled Balanced, Be Vigilant

1 Peter 5:7 (AMP) Be well balanced [temperate, sober of mind], be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that the enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. An adversary is an opponent, one seeking to defeat you in a cause. We have an adversary in the devil who has had a whole lot of experience in deceit and seduction. He is always poised to subvert men from God’s will. It is particularly easy to slack in vigilance when faced with a crisis. It is why people, when angry, tend to say and act in ways that they would later regret. Words they would dare not utter they speak, things they would dare not do, they do. This is not limited to times of anger, but also in times of great emotional upheaval, people tend to act more from emotions that from good reasoning. God is reminding us today to take heed and be vigilant. Don’t relax your grip on God’s word and on your faith. Be well balanced. Keep your emotions in check. Don’t join the bandwagon, don’t act or speak flippantly. Don’t cast off restraint. Apostle James had very useful instructions to this end. “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” (James 1:19). This is the time to meditate much more on the word of God, to fill your mind with godly messages and faith-filled words. This is the time to stand strong in the faith. Remember that faith only exists in the presence of God’s word. Romans 10:17 says that ‘faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God’. Build yourself in your most holy faith praying in the Holy Ghost. Here is how the Message Bible puts it, “Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.” (1 Peter 5:8-11). Pray like this: Thank you Father for your word is true. I am kept and preserved by your word. My heart is fixed on you and lips kept from guile. Amen. Not yet saved? Spiritual Liberty 2

Isaiah 10:27 (NIV) In that day their burden will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you have grown so fat. As Laide started applying her heart to the word of God and allowing it to transform her by the renewing of her mind, she observed that she started knowing the Lord and was now able to discern His will(see Rom 12:2). She also observed that because of this, she was now too big for the chains that held her bound in the past. The yokes in her life were now broken because she had grown spiritually too fat for them. This spiritual fatness came because she had been feasting on the word of God (she continued in His word). Jesus told those who believed in Him that if they continued in His word, they would be His disciples indeed, and then they would know the truth, and the truth will set them free (see John 8:31-32). Those who continue in His word are those who are truly the Lord’s disciples, and they are the ones who can know Him who is the Truth (see John 14:6, 1 John 5:6). This knowledge brings spiritual liberty. The Truth is a reality that is only encountered in [the knowledge of] Christ. This is eternal life; it is the reality that makes all other things but shadows in the light of His presence. Go into today remembering that abiding in His word and letting it change the way you think is the way to know Him and walk in spiritual liberty. Prayer: Ask the Lord to expose you to more resources that will help you abide in His word and grow in the knowledge of The Truth. The more of God’s truth(word) you know, the more impossible it will be for you to be bound. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible in one year: Matthew 20-22 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Spiritual Liberty

John 8:31-32 (KJV) Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. What perplexed Laide was how some people who were believers and committed to the church were still under demonic yokes and ancestral bondages. For example, her uncle was a minister in a Pentecostal church, but he died mysteriously. It was later rumored in their village that he was killed by some witches who had a connection with his family. These kinds of things were happening. Laide herself believed in Jesus, but she was not truly free. Her life was a battle. Demons still had power over her. Jesus told certain Jews who believed in him that if they continued in His word, then they would be His disciples, and then they would know the truth, and the truth will set them free. Remember that Jesus introduced himself as the Truth in John 14:6 (also see John 5:6). These Jews were people who believed in Jesus already, but like Laide, they were not yet free. They were not yet free from the power of sin [and death]; they were not yet free from bondages of the past. Jesus gave them the remedy. He told them to continue in His word. This was how they would become his disciples, and only His disciples can truly know Him (the Truth; the reality). Disciples are those who have been converted from goats to sheep; they are those transformed by the renewing of their mind through the word (Rom 12:2). They are those who obey their Lord in all things. 1 John 2:4 (KJV) He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (To be continued) Go into today desiring to grow in your knowledge of the Lord (2 Peter 3:8), that’s the only way to true spiritual liberty. Not yet saved? Light of the world

Matthew 5:14 (KJV)  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. I have had the privilege to meet with several people during one on one evangelism and I’ve discovered some of the following: *Almost everyone with a Christian name claimed to be born again, some even believe they will go to heaven in the eventuality of death. But pressing further by engaging them with certain questions, I discovered that most of them don’t even know what it means to be born again. * Many who have received the Lord Jesus are doing nothing for Him. I believe Jesus foresaw our day when he said in Matthew 9:37 that ‘‘the harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few’’. From my experience, the grasp of darkness on its subjects seem firmer than ever. Yet, the saved seem unconcerned. We gather in large numbers in massive auditoriums but our immediate environments are not affected. This has left me with these questions: is there a kind of light that doesn’t shine? Can one be under a Lord and not serve him? Can a city be on a hill and yet be hidden? Have you met with Jesus the light of the world? Do you have His life in you? Is He your Lord? Then, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16). The proof of light is in its shinning. The proof of Jesus’ lordship over you is that you will obey and serve Him. Jesus says in John 5:17 that ‘‘my Father worketh hitherto, and I work’’. If Jesus is your Lord, show it by doing His work. Go into today determined to serve Jesus by letting his light shine through you. The harvest is truly plenteous! Prayer: Lord, forgive me for any way I have hidden my light under a bushel. Please help me shine and bring glory to Your Holy Name from today. Amen. Not yet saved? Staying Sanctified

Haggai 2:12-13 (NET) If someone carries holy meat in a fold of his garment and that fold touches bread, a boiled dish, wine, olive oil, or any other food, will that item become holy?’” The priests answered, “It will not.” Then Haggai asked, “If a person who is ritually unclean because of touching a dead body comes in contact with one of these items, will it become unclean?” The priests answered, “It will be unclean.” Jide wondered why each time he spent time with his old friends (who were unbelievers), he came back spiritually weaker and was more susceptible to spiritual attacks and falling into temptations. He always assumed that his contact with unbelievers should help further sanctify them, and not the other way round. But his experience made him realize that his assumption was wrong. Today’s Bible verses reveal a very profound but fundamental spiritual principle. Here the Lord told Prophet Haggai to ask the priests if contact with a Holy thing made other things holy. The answer was no. But it was revealed that contact with defiled things make undefiled things become defiled. This is a principle that God’s people in the time of Haggai needed to remember, and it is a principle God’s people need to remember today. Mixing clean clothes and dirty ones don’t make dirty clothes clean, it would only dirty clean clothes. Go into today remembering that you are not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers (see 2 Cor 6:14, James 4:4). This does not mean you are not to talk to them, be helpful to them or work with them. This means you are not to make unbelievers your close friends and confidants with who you share matters of your heart. Prayer: Lord, help me to live a sanctified life. Amen. Not yet saved? Dressed For Work

Ephesians 6:13 (NET) For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything to stand. Most professions have a dress code. Doctors do, lawyers do, athletes do and as the name goes, so do men of the uniform. Every item that makes up their dress code is carefully and thoughtfully selected to aid the efficiency of the professional. Usain Bolt would never run a 100meter dash in 9.58 seconds if he was geared in the clothes of a marine. And the dress of the surgeon will do the policeman no good when he encounters miscreants on patrol. The believer is a member of God’s workforce, God’s army, and will in the cause of his duty be contending not with flesh and blood but with principalities and powers, spiritual wickedness in high places and rulers of the darkness of this world. Therefore, to stand and to withstand every device of the enemy, the believer must be fully dressed. No half measures. The armor was designed to work best with all the components fully in place. Each day must find us fully dressed ready to work and to war. With our armor on, we outlive the evil day. We walk in victory, when the enemy throws fiery darts at us we quench it. We stand firm even when the storm rages and the billows roar. We take our stand and stand our ground yielding no ground to the devil. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. (Ephesians 6:14-18 NLT). Go into today dressed in the whole armor of God. Prayer: Lord, help me always put on the whole armor and stand for you. Not yet saved?
