Hebrews 11:14-15 (KJV) For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
Christabel was such a beauty to behold. From her fair-complexioned, well-conditioned glowing skin, to her full, flowing, black, long hair. She was the cynosure of all eyes and the envy of many girls; the girl every other girl wished they were. Christabel was the only daughter of a doting business executive father and fashion icon mother. Being their only child, they spared no expense to make her know she was loved, cherished, and adored.
All was going well until one fateful day when out of sheer boredom she decided to honor a classmate’s invitation to a special Single’s Weekend that was tagged “Beautiful: Inside Out”. It was a lovely program with good music, great ambiance, and fun activities until it was time for the charge. By the end of the 20 minutes sermon, she was confronted with the truth of God’s word that gripped her heart and shook the very foundations of her soul. That day the seed was sown that a few weeks later resulted in her commitment to Jesus.
Two years later and she was beginning to feel conflicted, the joy of salvation had eluded her, she felt like her life was a rudderless ship at sea in the midst of a raging storm. It took a retreat for her to put a finger to the cause: She had allowed herself to begin to miss all the attention she always had back when she used to dress to kill, all the various gifts, both solicited and unsolicited, that she was often showered with by men in her DMs. She had allowed herself to begin to think about all the privileges and things she would have been enjoying if the course of her life had not been interrupted by Jesus.
The best way to make progress in the journey of the Christian life is to make a clean break from the past, and invest all energy, mental and physical, in the pursuit of the Lord and neither spare nor spend time reminiscing about the past life.
Just like the patriarch of old, their confession and profession made it clear that they were not of this present world (system), but were merely strangers and pilgrims. Likewise, reckon your old man dead, and its history buried. Press on, onward, until you apprehend that for which you were apprehended.
Go into today keeping your mind full of the things over which Jesus presides (See Col 3:1-3 MSG), when you do this, bridges of backsliding get damaged beyond repair.
