2 Corinthians 7:1 (NET) Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that could defile the body and the spirit, and thus accomplish holiness out of reverence for God.
When Joe drew nearer to the Lord, he noticed a shift within himself. Sin seemed out of place, and even unwholesome jokes became a serious issue when Joe became more conscious of the Holy Spirit. This awareness heightened his sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, allowing him to discern when something he intended to say or do would not align with the Spirit’s approval. Joe witnessed his spiritual strength and power grow in tandem with his deepening awareness of the Holy Spirit.
When a believer loses sight of their inherent holiness, it often stems from a lack of respect for the Holy Spirit. Today’s Bible verse underscores that living in holiness is an act of honoring God. Many individuals don’t experience growth in their relationship with God or in spiritual power, not because they lack faith, but because they don’t hold the Holy Spirit in due reverence within them. This shows in how they live without considering the way He feels.
Because God desires us to live holy lives, He has equipped us to do so. Anyone born of God carries the seed of God within them, meaning they have the capacity for holiness if they yield to the Spirit rather than to the flesh.
One significant factor that weakens a Christian’s resolve to pursue holiness is keeping unrighteous company.
Go into today asking for a closer walk with God. Ask to walk in more reverence for the Lord.
