Embrace The Blessing

Ephesians 1:3 (NLT) All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Dotun was now saved, and he was glad he had escaped the wrath that was imminent. He started learning that he didn’t only escape the wrath of God, but had come into the blessing of God through his continued faith in Christ Jesus. He wasn’t only going to escape hell, but he was now going to inherit the kingdom of God. Dotun wanted to understand what it means to inherit the kingdom of God. One of the first things he learned was that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor 15:50). He understood that during the resurrection, we would not resurrect with bodies of flesh, but with glorified spiritual bodies (1 Cor 15:43-44). These physically visible glorified bodies will reveal our true nature as sons of God. But while we are in this body of flesh, we can experience the first fruits of our kingdom life because of the indwelling Holy Spirit (see Romans 8:23). Since flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, Dotun knew that if he was walking in the flesh (Gal 5:19-21), he could not live the kingdom life of victory, glory, and power. Today, many believers are not fruitful in the kingdom life because they have not understood the kingdom of God. We can learn from the Parable of the sower (see Matt 13:3-8, 18-23) that those who received the word and were fruitful were those who received it and understood it (see Matt 13:23). Go into today remembering that you have been blessed with all spiritual blessings. Remember that those who walk in the flesh cannot walk in these blessings. Want to be saved? Before she gave him the present, she prayed over it and asked the Lord to use it to bring him to salvation. When she gave him the Bible, she made him promise to read it. When Dotun first read the Bible, he started from the Old Testament but stopped reading it before he got to the New Testament. He particularly liked the story of Nebuchadnezzar and the book of Daniel because as a history student he could confirm that those kingdoms and Kings really existed in history. One thing he observed from reading the Bible as an unbeliever was that the wrath of God was really scary. So several years later when someone came to preach the gospel to him and told him that by accepting the Lord Jesus he was going to escape the wrath of God, he quickly accepted Christ’s Lordship because he did not want to be part of those who would experience the wrath of God. One of the reasons the Gospel is good news is because it shows us a way of escape from the wrath that is to come. Humankind is headed for eternal condemnation. The only salvation is in the Lord Jesus. If you have not accepted the Lord Jesus, today is your day of salvation. Escape the condemnation of the world because ‘He who believes in Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God’. John 3:18 (NKJV) Pray this prayer: I believe in my heart and confess that Jesus is my Lord. I will now live under His authority and do as he says. Thank you Lord for dying on the cross for me. Since the day Colins and Candy got married, they had bitter quarrels and misunderstandings. Colins had this perfect idea of what his ideal wife should be like, but he was disappointed because after marrying Candy, he found that she didn’t meet his expectations. Candy, on the other hand, wanted Colins to be a perfect gentleman she could control, but Collins was anything but that. What made matters sadder was that they were both leaders in the church, but they didn’t seem to know how to live in peace with each other. After going for marriage counseling with their pastor, they realized that the root of their problem was pride and a lack of willingness to bear with one another in love. When they both came to terms with the fact that they were proud and needed to humble themselves, they started to have a happy marriage. One of the ugliest things to see is Christian fellowships or homes in which there are divisions and dissensions. Most of the time, it takes a conscious effort on our part to maintain peace. A believer who is quarrelsome and divisive is not living in a manner worthy of His calling in God. How do believers live worthily? We do so by making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Many times, in dealing with people, if there would be peace and unity of spirit, we have to be willing to be patient and bear with them in love. This is only possible when we are humble and gentle. A proud person cannot do this. Go into today remembering that walking in a manner worthy of the Lord enables you to walk in the glorious power and liberty of the Lord. Humility and gentleness are key attributes of those who walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. Prayer: Lord, help me walk in a manner worthy of my calling in You and please You in all things. Amen. Interactive Bible Study Manual 4

TOPIC: Does God’s Judgment Cause Evil to Happen? Part 1 Introduction When we read the Old Testament, we see that a number of dreadful things were commanded by God because of the sins of the people. From the flood of Noah to the destruction of the Canaanites, we see a side of God many do not like to talk about because they do not understand how a God of love can be responsible for so much human peril. There is a common school of thought that says all evil in this world is of the devil, and God never does anything negative. Another school of thought says God in the Old Testament is different from God in the New Testament, that even though God destroyed people because of their sins in the Old Testament, because of the sacrifice of Jesus, God no longer destroys people but showers love on them till they come to see the light. But as we look at the New Testament, we find the book of Revelation, and other portions in the epistles that talk about the wrath of God coming upon the children of disobedience(Ephesians 5:6, Colossians 3:6). We see entire plagues, famines, and perils poured out from heaven upon the earth in the book of Revelation(see Revelation 6), and many believers have decided to behave as if that book does not exist. This study is to further help us understand the character of God and to see His love in all of His actions.  This is an interactive inductive Bible study, so we are all expected to discuss, contribute, and allow the scriptures to lead us to our definitive inferences. DISCUSSION 1) God is the judge of the whole earth(not the devil) Genesis 15:4, Genesis 18:25 2) God is a just judge and a loving father (Same verses as above) Ezekiel 22:29-31 3) God’s judgment is because of His love. It slows down global decay and destruction (Discuss the principle of gangrene and amputation) Numbers 35:33 4) God is slow to anger(Joel 2:13, Numbers 4:18) 5) Explain the perceived contradiction in Numbers 4:18 6) Christ’s death on the cross was God’s love and mercy through His judgment (1 John 2:2, Isaiah 53:5). Discuss. 7) The devil needs permission from God before he can afflict the righteous (Job 1:10-12). Because of this principle, there are many things the devil cannot do in the world without permission because of the righteous. Discuss this. 8) Only in Christ is there escape from judgement.1 Thessalonians 1:10, John 3:16-18 Conclusion God’s ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. Many things that God does that we might perceive as evil are actually good if only we could see things from God’s perspective. Remember that we are eternal beings and it would be a serious mistake for us to judge things only from a human time-bound perspective.

Dealing with Envy

You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. Tinuke and Adenike were best friends in the university. But after they graduated, it appeared that Tinuke started progressing much faster than Adenike. Tinuke got a very good high paying job, but Adenike didn’t. Tinuke got engaged and married, but Adenike remained single. Adenike became troubled because it appeared that God no longer answered her prayers. She started asking the Lord why. The Lord mercifully revealed to her that since they graduated, she could not pray without having Tinuke in mind. She was envious of Tinuke, and her prayers always started from that point of envy and covetousness. She did not know that this envy was greatly hindering her progress and prosperity. You see, when there is envy or covetousness in the heart of a believer, it pollutes his motives and hinders him from receiving from the Lord because God does not answer His children’s prayers that stream from fleshly motives. God is a good father; He does not reward bad behavior. When a person truly trusts in God and knows that everything he will ever receive comes from the Lord, such a person will not be envious of his neighbor’s progress. We can learn from today’s Bible verse that one way to ensure that God does not answer your prayer is praying from a standpoint of envy or covetousness. Envy causes hatred, and those who hate their brothers are considered to be murderers in the kingdom of God (see 1John 3:15). Go into today asking the Lord to help you purify your motives and pray acceptably. Prayer: Lord deliver me from every form of envy and pride. Help me to pray acceptable prayers. Amen. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” It is very exciting to know that God has made provision for our physical health and wellbeing if we make His Word our priority. In the passage we are considering today, “all their flesh” refers to our whole physical body, “health” also means medicine. So we see here that God has provided medicine for our whole physical body. This is very significant as we go through life, because most people will come in contact with some form of illness at some point in their lives. But for the Word of God to be effective as medicine, there’s a direction or prescription for taking it. Let’s consider four of those directions today. 1. Attend to my words or give attention to my words: When you turn to the Bible, you need to give it your total and undivided attention. Try to shut yourself off from other influences or distractions. Remember it is God speaking to you. That is not the time to look at your messages on your phone. You can’t get anything out of the bible if you approach it half-heartedly. 2. Incline your ear: That is an attitude of humility. Bow your ear. It’s an attitude that tells the Lord that you’re willing to be taught. Be humble, be teachable. For you to get the word to work in your life, you must have a desire to be taught. 3. Do not let them depart from your eyes: This refers to focus. Focus on the word of God. Don’t look partly at the bible and partly on other things because they may contradict what the bible is saying. Shut yourself in with what God is saying through the bible. Don’t be distracted. Don’t let any other influence turn you away from what God is saying. 4. Keep them in the midst of your heart: The very essence of all these is to get the word of God into your heart, the very center of human personality. Follow these directions the way you would adhere to a doctor’s prescription and the word will be life and health to your whole physical body. —Otuokon, Ubokudom. Not yet saved? Kingdom Principle of Love and Responsibility

1 Timothy 5:8 (NET)  But if someone does not provide for his own, especially his own family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. One of the reasons Biola hated her father so much was because of how much they suffered when she was a child, and yet she knew her father had money but refused to provide for them. He would rather spend his money on drinking and strange women. Her mother was a petty trader who couldn’t provide enough to take care of them, so they had to go live with relatives who maltreated them. It took the grace of God at work in Biola’s heart to make her able to forgive her father when he was now old, withered and needed the help of the same people he had abandoned. One of the strongest signs that a person has been born of God is manifested in his ability to love (see 1 John 4:7). A person truly born of God has the divine nature that makes him able to love even his enemies. For such a person, loving his family, friends, and neighbors is second nature. The way love works, it is manifested more strongly with those with whom you have the closest proximity or dealings. A person who loves would love his Christian brethren, family members, neighbors, and even enemies (enemies usually have a certain level of proximity that strangers don’t have), and strangers. But when you see someone who is supposed to be born of God that refuses to provide for his household (which means he doesn’t love them), it either means he was never born of God or he has denied the faith. When a person denies the faith, it is manifested in the cessation of love in his heart. It is also important that believers work with their hands so that they are able to provide for their households and the people who depend on them– this is an attribute of love. In the kingdom of God, we do not have an entitlement mentality (which breeds laziness), we believe that we are eternally blessed, so we allow this blessing to find expression in the work we do by being diligent and faithful. Go into today remembering that love in your heart is the greatest proof that you have been born of God. 1 John 3:18-19 (NET) Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth. And by this we will know that we are of the truth and will convince our conscience in his presence. Prayer: Lord, give me a heart that truly loves. Bless the works of my hands and help me able to provide for those who depend on me. Amen. Want to be saved? Interactive Bible Study Manual 3

Theme: The Last Days Topic: The Great Tribulation And The Church Text: Matthew 24:15-28 Join via Zoom. Audio conference. Zoom Meeting Link: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/536206651 Meeting ID: 536 206 651 TIME: 2:00pm(WAT- GMT +1), 1pm(Accra), 2pm(London), 4pm(Nairobi), 3pm(Johannesburg), 6:30pm(Mumbai), 9am(New York) INTRODUCTION There are various schools of thought on this subject matter. The “Amillenial” worldview describes it as persecution faced by Asian Christians of John’s time; symbolic of tribulation that occurs throughout history. The “Historical Premillenial” viewpoint opines that it is a period at the end time of unexplained trouble, before Christ’s return; the church will go through it; begins with the seventh seal (Rev. 18:1) which includes trumpets 1-6 (Rev. 8:2-14:20). The “Dispensational Premillenial” viewpoint says it is a period at the endtime of unexplained trouble referred to in Rev. 7:14 and described in chapters 11-18; lasts three and a half years (the latter half of a seven year period between rapture and the millennium). In other words, the church would be raptured before the tribulation. We will look at these and other viewpoints in the light of scripture and align with the position of scripture. DISCUSSIONS 1) What does the bible teach about the Great Tribulation? 2) A time of intense trouble and persecution – Daniel 12:1; Matt. 24:12, 15,21-22 3) Length of the tribulation – Matt. 24:22, Daniel 7:25, Rev. 12:14, Rev. 11:2, Rev. 12:6. 4) Antichrist blasphemes and says he is God – Daniel 7:25, 2 Thess. 2:3-4, Rev. 13:6 5) Much of the world worships him – Rev. 13:8,13-14 6) The mark, the image and enforced worship of the beast – Rev. 13:15-18, Rev. 14:9-11 7) The false prophet – Rev. 13:11-16, Rev. 19:20 *Will the church go through the tribulation?* 8) Who does the Lord refer to as the “elects” in Matt. 24:22,24,31. Rom 8:33, Col, 3:12, (Discussion). 9) The antichrist persecution of Christians – Rev. 13:7, Daniel 7:21,25, Daniel 11:35 10) Protection and provision during tribulation – Rev.9:3-4, Rev. 11:3,5-7, Rev. 12:6, 14 11) Witnessing during the tribulation – Daniel 11:33 12) Christians overcome and survive despite persecution – Rev. 12:11, Daniel 11:32, Rom. 8:35-37, 1 Cor. 15:51-52, 1 Thess 4:16-17 (many Christians will still be alive at Jesus’ second coming after the great tribulation) 13) Why God allows us to suffer tribulation – Daniel 11:35, Daniel 12:10, Isaiah 48:10, Proverbs 17:3, Ephesians 5:27. 14) Future heavenly reward for enduring tribulation – Rev. 7:9,13-17, Rev. 20:4 CONCLUSION In conclusion, from the scriptures examined above, the great tribulation will be a time of great difficulty and intense pressure. It is therefore necessary for the church to be properly informed and to prepare effectively by developing patience and endurance; be equipped with the word to witness more aggressively and to persevere to the end, even in the face of difficulty.

Mrs. Edwin did not know that the reason she could not conceive was because she kept on believing the lie that she was to pay for her past sins. She didn’t realize that if she was able to pay for her sins, Christ would not have to die. The real problem was that even though God had already forgiven her, she had not yet received His forgiveness and was still living under the cloud of guilt. She cried to the Lord to have mercy on her and let her have her own children. God opened her eyes to see that she needed to accept His forgiveness and forgive her mother-in-law and everyone else who she had been keeping malice with. When she did this, she conceived. When a believer refuses to accept the forgiveness of God, it would be very difficult for that believer to forgive others. And the sin of unforgiveness is very spiritually toxic. Many have been afflicted because they have refused to receive the forgiveness of God, even though He has already forgiven them. It is by faith that we receive the forgiveness of God. The reason why the word of God says God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins (1 John 1:9) is because refusing to forgive us our sins would be unjust since Christ Jesus has already paid for them. Go into today remembering that it is for Christ’s sake that God forgave you (Eph 4:32). Even though you feel like you don’t deserve God’s forgiveness, be humble enough to receive it freely and move on in the liberty of the Spirit. Mrs. Edwin was convinced that the reason she had not been able to conceive was because of her past sins. According to her, God was allowing her to suffer for the things she had done in the past. Even though she was now in Christ, she still believed that she was to pay for her sins. I have met believers who believe that the reason for certain situations they go through is because of a sin they have committed. I have realized that many believers do not know the danger of such thinking. They do not know that if they were to really pay for their sins, death (and not just suffering) would be the result because the wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23). If God forgave our sins because of the sacrifice of Jesus, it means we are not the ones to pay for our sins. Jesus has already paid for them on the cross. But if we believe that we are still to pay a small price for our sins, the devil is more than happy to take advantage of this ignorance and afflict us. Many believers have been afflicted because of this wrong mindset. But those who take advantage of the sacrifice (the blood) of Jesus would always overcome the devil (see Rev 12:11). It is dangerous for a believer to continue in any known sin because this damages his good conscience and produces spiritual death because of faith shipwreck (Rom 8:13, 1 Tim 1:19), but if a believer sins and sincerely repents and renounces his sins, God is faithful and just to forgive him and cleanse him from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). God is faithful and just to do this because Jesus has already paid the price for it. Prayer: Thank you Lord for paying the price for my sins. —Pst.
