Isaiah 60:1-2 (KJV), “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.”

Matthew chapter five has been tagged “the beatitudes”, it describes the blessedness of the life a child of God. Worthy of note however is the description of the life of a believer in this chapter; they will hunger and thirst after righteousness, be meek, merciful, be peacemakers, and be hated and maltreated. This, according to Jesus is how to be the salt of the earth and light of the world.

From Jesus’ description of who light is, it is not funfair at all. It is not a license to enjoy the riches of the world, rather, it is a call to death; death to self and personal ambitions. While it is true that many claim to be Christians today, there are only a few who qualify as the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

Are you one of the lights? God is still looking for men and women who will be his light in the dark places of this world, will you be one?

Read through Matthew chapter five today and compare your life with what was described. If you really want to be God’s light, confess whatever area of fault you have discovered and ask God for help.
