Evil Communication

1 Corinthians 15:25 (NET) Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” After Gerald accepted the Lord Jesus, he was baptized and introduced to an entirely different way of life. His evil and sinful desires were no longer the controlling force of his life, and he discovered he was now free from within and had an inner joy and peace that words could not explain. Even though his discipler had warned him to cut his ties with his former friends with whom he used to commit sins, he started hanging out with them again because he told himself that they did not have the power to influence him but he would rather influence them. He used to be their leader. He was deceiving himself by thinking he could continue his friendship with them and not be corrupted. After several weeks of continuing his friendship with them, he came back to his senses one night while he was in a nightclub with them doing all the sinful things they used to do before. At that point, he realized he had gone back to how he used to be. He was sad because he really wanted to stay free. He went back to his discipler, repented, and was restored. He had now learned experientially that bad company truly corrupts good morals, that’s not something the strongest-willed person can control. One of the very potent deceptions of the devil today is that company and communication (and the content of what entertains you) do not really matter. Today’s Bible verse was taken from a section of the letter apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian Christians. In that section, Apostle Paul was addressing a strange doctrinal belief that was becoming prevalent among the brethren in that city (read 1 Corinthians 15). One thing was clear, the brethren were being influenced by other sources of information that are contrary to the scriptures. They were communicating with sources of information that apostle Paul is now referring to as evil. When a believer spends time regularly watching unwholesome programs on TV and thinks it doesn’t matter, he is deceiving himself by not realizing that evil communication will corrupt his good morals. Remember, whatever entertains you enters you. Go into today remembering to guard your heart with all diligence because out of it are the issues of life (see Proverbs 4:23). Prayer: Ask the Lord to give you strength and wisdom to cut off from every source of evil communication and keep your mind stayed on Him. Pray with Isaiah 26:3 (KJV): Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. — Abraham Damilola Arigi Bible In 1 Year: James 4-5 Credits: Audio Bible(Bible Experience, Zondervan) Streamglobe is nondenominational and interdenominational. Make not provision for the flesh 2

Romans 13:13-14 (NET) Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse its desires. After Gabriel recovered spiritually, he was now more careful with the places he went to and the people he spent time with. He realized that putting on Jesus was a repellent to the wrong people. Everyone that came in contact with him now heard about Jesus; they heard the praise of Jesus and thanksgiving to God in His name; and knew that Gabriel was under the authority of the Lord Jesus. Gabriel now had a simple rule: everywhere he knew that the Lord would not be in, he avoided such places. He avoided watching movies and having conversations he knew the Lord could not partake in. It is impossible to put on a potent perfume and it would not be noticed by those who come close to you. It is impossible to put on the Lord Jesus and He will not be noticed by those who come close to you. The power of God answers to those whose nature has been transformed through their interaction with Jesus. Believers who still live like unbelievers would not know the power and glory of sonship (see 2 Corinthians 6:17-18), but will easily fall prey to seducing spirits. Go into today remembering to put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh. Every time we make provision for the flesh, we put off the Lord Jesus to do that. Prayer: Father, help me live a life permeated by the presence of the Lord Jesus. Deliver me from the power of the flesh, In Jesus’ name. Amen —Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Bible Plan: Acts 9-10 (In Devotional Audio) Credits: Audio Bible(Bible Experience, Zondervan). Keep your lamp burning

Luke 12:35-37 (KJV) Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. Henry went through some things that made him almost discouraged and give up his faith. His faith seemed waning and his joy in the Lord diminished, but because he was properly taught, he understood that all the devil was aiming at was to extinguish [the fire of] his faith. He thus strengthened himself with the remembrance of the hope of the Lord’s coming and the glory that shall be revealed. Just like the Thessalonians were instructed to do(see 1 Thessalonians 4:18), Henry found encouragement in being focused on the hope of our calling(the resurrection of the dead and the glorious appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ). In the midst of the raging storms, if you take that hope away from the believer, his faith will be extinguished. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. In the verses above, we see a call to alertness and keeping our fires burning. You cannot be alert and ready for the Lord’s coming if your fire is not burning. This quickly reminds me of the Parable of the wise and foolish Virgins in Matthew 25:14-30. In order for the virgins to be ready for the coming of the bridegroom, their lamps needed to have oil and the fire burning. In Isaiah 62:1, we see righteousness and salvation likened to a burning lamp. A believer whose fire is burning is one who is living the life and working the work. He is one who is not discouraged, weary or distracted, but one whose salvation continues to produce the attendant fruits. A believer whose light has gone out is one who has backslidden. Go into today remembering that God does not give us warnings that are not necessary. There is the threat of many people’s lights going out because of discouragement and distractions, but he that endures to the end shall be saved. Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me remain alert and keep my fire burning. Deliver me from discouragements and distractions. Amen. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Yearly Bible Plan: Habakkuk (In Devotional Audio) Credits: Audio Bible(Bible Experience, Zondervan).
