The Believer’s Mindset

Galatians 3:13-14 (NET) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit by faith. Jim, Andrew, and Benjamin were close friends in college. With time, Andrew who was a believer observed that Benjamin had a certain sense of superiority. He actually believed that he was better than everyone around him and that whatever he did would proper. As Andrew continued to observe, he noticed that Benjamin believed so much that he would be successful and excel in what he does because he was a Jew and he believed that he walked in the blessing. As things turned out before everyone’s eyes, Benjamin was always the most successful one in the lot. It was clear to Andrew that there was a spiritual force working for the favor and success of Benjamin in all things. As Andrew studied the scriptures and prayed about this, he found that as a believer in Christ, he had more access to the blessing of Abraham than a Jew who does not believe in Christ. What the unbelieving Jew has is the shadow, but what the believer in Christ (whether Jew or Gentile) has is the fullness of the blessing. This blessing produces peace and prosperity and gives us the inheritance of eternal life. As Andrew changed his mindset, and like Benjamin, started believing that he was blessed indeed, he noticed that the blessings started manifesting in his life. He even noticed that the manifestation of God’s grace and blessing in his life was stronger than what Benjamin had enjoyed all these years. Go into today remembering that in Christ, you have the fullness of God’s blessing and have been redeemed from all curses. This blessing is activated in your life by faith. Start expecting things to work well because of you. It is the expectation of the righteous that is not cut short, not merely his desires. Prayer: Lord, help me walk the earth with the right mindset. Sanctification

Romans 6:21-22 (NET) So what benefit did you then reap from those things that you are now ashamed of? For the end of those things is death. But now, freed from sin and enslaved to God, you have your benefit leading to sanctification, and the end is eternal life. When I was much younger, I used to hear a lot about sanctification. It was believed by many believers in my country then that after a person believes and is discipled, the next stage was sanctification. A believer who converted and has lost the vestiges (characteristics) of his old life was the one considered to be sanctified. There were many excesses those days, but one thing I can say for sure about those days was that those who professed faith in Christ Jesus were more disciplined than many who claim to be born again today. As a result of true sanctification, there was a great revival in my country. Many Muslims and Idol worshipers received the gospel. It was commonplace to see a minister of the gospel who was formerly an enemy of the church before he received Christ. The church was not as wealthy but much more powerful in her ability to penetrate and win souls. But with time, among mainstream believers, teachings about sanctification diminished and many believers today don’t even know what it means to be sanctified after believing. But in today’s Bible verse, we see that those who are free from sin have their benefit leading to sanctification. There are dimensions of God’s glory and power that can only be revealed through sanctified vessels. Sinners would not be truly convicted and repent through the gospel from an unsanctified vessel. Go into today remembering that sanctification sets you apart for God and God alone. Only those the Lord has sanctified can be truly useful for all His good works (2 Timothy 2:21). Prayer: Lord, help me to live a sanctified Holy life that radiates your presence and glory. Want to be saved? The Gospel Message

1 John 1:5-6 (NET) Now this is the gospel message we have heard from him and announce to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth. Before Linda became born again, her heart was filled with darkness: pride, hatred, malice, racism, deceit, etc. She was a dressmaker who had a reputation for disappointing her clients. There was a time she intentionally delayed the production of the wedding dresses of one of her customers after making promises and multiple assurances. She did it on purpose and did it in a way that the lady was stranded. She was ready to face the consequences as long as she would have the satisfaction of seeing this lady in pain– she hated to see people so happy. Linda was a very dark personality with many ‘skeletons in her cupboard’. No one truly knew her, her heart was dark and wicked and she knew this. When she traveled to the United States and tried to continue to stay there illegally, she eventually became stuck and stranded. She found herself in a situation where she was willing to do anything just to survive. It was during this tough period that she came in contact with real believers who truly loved the Lord and loved people. At certain times when she was going to be homeless, these believers were the only ones who cared. The light and love manifested by the believers she came in contact with was what eventually broke her and made her able to receive the gospel and accept the Lord Jesus. Her heart that used to be full of darkness was now full of light because of the gospel. Instead of hatred and envy, her heart was now filled with the love, joy and peace of the Lord (Galatians 5:22). In today’s scripture, we see that the Gospel Message reveals that ‘God is light’, and in Him is no darkness at all’. This is really good news. We don’t serve a dark, unjust, wicked god like the other gods of men. The Gospel Message talks about the nature and person of God, and this nature is what we receive when we truly accept Christ Jesus. Anyone who truly accepts the gospel will be translated from darkness into light (Colossians 1:13). He who used to be filled with darkness (an agent of darkness and pain) would now become the light of the world (see Matthew 5:14). Light brings joy and peace, but darkness brings pain and grief. Go into today remembering that as a believer in Christ Jesus, you are the light of the world. You now have the capacity to love God and love people. Don’t hide your light but let it shine today and always. Prayer: Lord, thank you for making me the light of the world. Help me shine ever brighter and bring praise to your name. Amen. Immune to Judgment

1 Corinthians 2:15 (NKJV) But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. When the Lord said ‘judge not’ in Matthew 7:1, He was talking to His disciples, and the context was a [Christian] disciple judging another disciple. That Sermon [on the mount] started in Matthew 5 after His disciples came up the mountain to meet Him (see Matt 5:1). in the sermon, He instructed them not to judge one another, that was why he said if you see a spec in “your brother’s” eye. The context here is “your brother” not “your neighbor”, indicating that He is talking to disciples. Today’s Bible verse reveals that even though the spiritual man has the ability to judge all things, no one has the ability to rightly judge him. For indeed, those who would be counted worthy to inherit the kingdom of Christ and reign with Him would also judge all men and even the angels (see 1 Cor 6:2-3). But even they are not qualified to judge each other correctly, no one is. The only Person able to judge them is their Lord and master (see Rom 14:4). This applies to spiritual believers and not carnal believers because walking in the flesh excludes a believer from immunity to judgment and condemnation (see Rom 8:1 in KJV, Rom 8:13). Before Satan can afflict anyone, he must first have grounds for judgment and condemnation against him. These grounds do not exist for the spiritual man (whose life is ruled by the Holy Spirit). Even if a spiritual man falls, he rises again and does not stay there to create grounds for the accuser. Go into today remembering that there is no judgment and condemnation for the spiritual man. The only thing that can make him walk in a way deserving of judgment is when he becomes carnal by continuing to unrepentantly walk in the flesh. Prayer: Lord, please help me to always walk in the Spirit. Want to be saved? Are You Enjoying Grace?

Titus 2:11-12 (ESV) For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age. Jude and James were prayer partners. They often confessed their sins to one another and prayed for one another. In one of their prayer meetings, Jude told James how he had been lusting after a certain lady in the neighborhood and they prayed about the matter. But Jude later came in contact with a preacher who told him that confession of sins was for those under the law, and since Christ has redeemed him from the curse of the law, he is completely free and has no need to do anything further but simply enjoy what God has already done. Jude who had always wanted to indulge his lust now found a good reason to do so. He cut off from James and joined the preacher’s fellowship. When James discovered all these, he tried his best to convince Jude against this new gospel but Jude was adamant. This new preacher had told Jude that all his sins whether past, present, or future were forgiven when he confessed Jesus, and anything he does after confessing Christ is no longer regarded as a sin because he is now living under grace. This preacher preached a different Gospel, a gospel that is contrary to what the Holy Spirit is saying in today’s scripture. According to Titus 2:11, Grace gives us the ability to renounce ungodliness and worldliness, thus, we are able to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives. If your daily living lacks self-control, uprightness, and godliness, what you claim to have is not grace. Grace is that which enables us to live in this world and not be polluted by it (John 17:16). Grace is that which makes us strong and empowers us for exploits in the midst of a corrupt world (Daniel 11:32). Go into today knowing that a man who lives by grace will have the literal ability to say no to sin. Such a man’s outlook on life will be changed through the word of God. Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me by your grace to live above sin, stay strong, and do exploits for you. Amen! Want to be saved? Serve The Lord And Be Free 2

Luke 1:74-75 (KJV) That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. Susan never knew her father and her grandmother who also used to be a prostitute was the only family she had. Even though they lived in the most affluent nation on earth, her family was so poor that they had to live on the generosity of strangers, prostitute themselves, sell drugs, and do other such illegal things to survive. Susan had accepted the Lord Jesus but was not yet truly free from the power of curses in her bloodline because she did not fully understand the gospel and was not committed to living for God. She started experiencing true freedom when she rededicated her life to the Lord and understood that living for God and serving Him is the only way to truly appropriate our freedom in Christ. We see in today’s scripture that when we are delivered from the hands of our enemies, we are to serve God in holiness and righteousness all the days of our lives. Being committed to serving the Lord is the only guarantee of continued freedom in this present world. If you are not a serving son, you are a prodigal son. The prodigal son was born free but became worse than a slave in the land of strangers. It is time for all prodigal sons to come back home. Isaiah 54:17 (KJV) says “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord”. Do you notice that the promises in the verse above are a heritage of those who serve the Lord? Curses are spiritual judgments, but only those who serve the Lord can effectively condemn them. Are you serving the Lord or are you serving mammon? Go into today remembering that you were set free from the slavery of darkness to the glorious kingdom of God. When we commit ourselves to serve the Lord, we commit ourselves to the protection and power of heaven. Believers who are not committed to serving the Lord are cheating themselves. Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me serve you and reap the benefits, In Jesus’ name. Amen. Want to be saved? Serve the Lord and Be Free

Exodus 8:1 (KJV)  ‘‘And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me”. After spending about four hundred years in Egypt, the children of Israel began to cry to God for freedom because their pains and sufferings were excruciatingly unbearable under the taskmasters of Egypt. God heard their cry and came down to deliver them (Exodus 3:7-8), but He needed a reason for which their deliverance will be justifiable and the reason He found was, “that they may serve me”. The most justifiable reason why you should be free is so you could serve God. So, if you will not serve Him, you are rejecting freedom.  Many, after receiving Christ, are victims of oppression because they have not yet given to the service of God; they have refused God access to certain aspects of their lives, thus giving the devil advantage to oppress them in those areas. The cheapest route to deliverance is getting lost in service to God. Exodus 23:22 (KJV) says  ‘‘But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries”. But how will this happen? It is by loving and serving God with all your heart and with all your soul (Deuteronomy 11:13). Exodus 19:5-6 (KJV) reads, ‘‘Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation’’  Exodus 23:25-26 (KJV)  ‘‘And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill”. Go into today knowing that freedom will come when you totally release that area of your life under contention to God in service. Prayer: Lord Jesus, I choose to serve you with my all. And as I serve you, I receive all-round freedom. Living By Faith

Mark 4:31 (NKJV) [The kingdom of God] is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth Luke 17:21 …the kingdom of God is within you. If you plant a mustard seed, everything about the tree including the fruits it will bear and the huge size it will attain is encoded into that seed. As the seed begins to grow day by day, its real nature is revealed in the plant. Everything the tree will ever become has been encoded in that seed. When you received Christ as Lord and Savior, you received the righteousness of God in your Spirit. This seed of God in your Spirit is incorruptible (see 1 Peter 1:23). God’s plan is that as you live out your life here on earth by faith, His righteousness within you is revealed. ”For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; it is written, ‘the just shall live by faith’” (Rom 1:17). As you live by faith, the righteousness of God in your spirit is revealed, just like the nature of the mustard seed is revealed as it is allowed to grow. Any believer who does not live by faith will not let the righteousness of God deposited in his spirit to be revealed. He will be unfruitful. Remember that God’s expectation is fruitfulness (John 15:16, Luke 8:4-8). The righteousness that counts before God is the righteousness of God, not the righteousness of man. The righteousness of man is a result of man’s work in obeying laws, but the righteousness of God is the fruit produced when believers live by faith (walk in the Spirit). A believer who lives by faith obeys God’s instructions, not because he thinks that they are the reason he is justified, he obeys them because he understands that he already has a relationship with God because of Christ Jesus. A child obeys his father not so that he can become his father’s child but because he is already his father’s child. Go into today thanking God for the gift of His righteousness in your Spirit. Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you live by faith and be fruitful. Want to be saved? The Mind that Overcomes

1 Peter 4:1-2 (NET) So, since Christ suffered in the flesh, you also arm yourselves with the same attitude, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin, in that he spends the rest of his time on earth concerned about the will of God and not human desires. After Rakesh accepted the Lord Jesus, he had a real struggle with his old habits of sin. At some point, it appeared as if it was impossible for him to overcome them because they had so much power over him. He loved the Lord, but he still found that his sins were so powerful that he started to think they were impossible to overcome, and grace covers them and gives allowance for a life dominated by the power of sin. But because he had walked in the communion of the Holy Spirit before, he knew he couldn’t continue in the works of the flesh and be spiritually whole. Rakesh got his freedom from the power of his sins when he read an article that helped him understand 1 Peter 4:1-2. Apostle Peter walked closely with the Lord Jesus while Jesus walked the earth, he understood the mind and outlook of the Lord Jesus to life such that He lived a perfect sinless life. Peter understood that the only way the believer can live as Jesus did is if he has the same attitude to life that Jesus had. He saw first hand that for Jesus, pleasing the Father was more important than life itself. Jesus said things like ‘if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off'(see Matthew 5:30). He saw how even though Jesus had the power to resist it, He was willing to die on the cross because that was the will of the Father. This mind that Jesus had is the only mind that has finished with sin. Apostle Paul also had this outlook to life, that was why when a prophet told him that he was going to be persecuted if he went to Jerusalem to preach, that didn’t change his mind one bit. For him, pleasing the father was more important than life itself (see Acts 21:10-14). The default mind of every human being is ‘I want to enjoy my life no matter what’, but the mind that conquers the power of sin is one that says ‘I want to live to please God, so if suffering in the flesh is what it takes, then so be it.’The world teaches us to love our [flesh] lives, but Christ teaches us to deny it. The world teaches us to live for earthly pleasures, Christ teaches us to deny ourselves and live for a higher purpose (Luke 9:23). Go into today remembering that we should arm ourselves with the same attitude that Jesus had. He was willing to give His life in order to do the will of the father. Want to be saved? God Bought You

1 Corinthians 6:20 (ESV) for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. There was a time when men were sold in the market as slaves and those with the means got themselves some. When the buyer had no plan of reselling such a slave, he put a brand (mark) on him or her for identification. This brand is usually imprinted using hot irons and the slave becomes the slave owner’s property for life. The buyer could use the slave for anything he wanted and the slaves had no right to refuse. If they did refuse, they would be grievously punished. Being an offspring of Adam, you were sold to the devil as a slave to serve sin and was condemned to perish (Romans 3:23). In His love, God, in wanting to redeem you, had to buy you over through the blood of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, ‘‘for it was not possible that [for] blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins” (Hebrews 10:4). After God bought you over to Himself, He put His Holy Spirit in you as a seal (brand) of ownership (2 Corinthians 1:22) and since then, you became God’s property. But instead of being his slave for life, he granted you the privilege to become His son (see John 1:12, John 15:15). Now that you know what the Lord has done for you, how will you respond to His love? He expects that you reciprocate His love by living for Him and His glory since he died for you (1Corinthians 6:20, 7:23, Matthew 5:16). You will be unreasonable if you accept God’s freedom but live to please yourself instead of pleasing Him. Go into today making up your mind to live your life for the One who purchased you with His blood. Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for redeeming me. I am determined to live for you.
