Rise Like An Edifice

Jude 1:20 (AMP) But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit Janice got born again and joined a Christian fellowship. She was faithful with Bible study, however, she still felt something was lacking as she was not quite able to exert her spiritual authority. She approached her fellowship president for counsel, he asked about her prayer life and she confirmed that she prays a few minutes in the morning and has not been quite consistent with it. He also asked her if she was baptized in the Holy Ghost and she affirmed that she was but that she rarely prays in the Spirit. He helped her choose a time every day for her to pray in the Spirit. He followed up with her to ensure she didn’t default. Before long, she testified that not only is she able to exercise spiritual authority better than before, but that she is able to effectively discern the leading of the Holy Spirit for her life and ministry. Romans 8:26 teaches us that the Holy Spirit helps us, and 1st Corinthians 14:4a says, “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself”. Another word for ‘edify’ is build up. When we pray in the Spirit we build up ourselves. Today’s text says we make progress and rise like an edifice higher and higher. It is a profitable practice to devote time to prayer and to pray often in the spirit. A person who devotes himself to this will experience great growth and increased spiritual sensitivity. So make up your mind today to take advantage of this great privilege made available to us in the Holy Spirit. When you do this, you will see your self rise like an edifice. You will be able to discern God’s will for your life and ministry with much more clarity. Go into today with a mind made up to build your self in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. Prayer: Father, give me the strength and discipline to pray in the Holy Ghost today, and every day of my life. Amen. Want to be saved? Redeeming The Times

Ephesians 5:16 (KJV)  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Rose had been a believer for 4 years. Even though she attended Church services regularly, she still suffered terrible nightmares regularly. Anytime she had a nightmare, she’d run to her pastor for prayers, then she’d get a break for some days or weeks. After noticing that her deliverance was always short-lived, she eventually got tired of the rituals of fasting, vigils and Bible studies and started considering going back to her past life. Like Rose, many are under the oppression of demons and evil men. Haven tried all that they know to do, some are now beginning to get discouraged in their walk of faith, especially when the freedom they desire is not forthcoming. We are not left in the dark concerning these matters; God told us that the days are evil. Matthew 6:34 (KJV) reads:  ’‘take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof’’. The Lord, however, did not stop at this, He also tells us how to handle the evils. In today’s text, we see that we are to redeem the time because the days are evil. Note that we are to handle life daily and not weekly, monthly or yearly. Redeeming the time must be done daily. One reason some Christians have not enjoyed consistent victory is because they have not engaged this truth of redeeming the time daily, but have waited for the next challenge to come and throw them into panic mode of prayer and fasting. Men ought always to pray and not to faint (Luke18:1 KJV). One of the things handled in the place of prayer is the evil of the day. Go into today making up your mind to give no place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27). Create systems that ensure that you redeem the time daily by spending quality time with the Lord in prayer and the ministry of the word. Pray this way: thank you, Heavenly Father, for this truth. I ask for the grace to daily redeem the time, in Jesus’ name. Amen. Want to be saved? Being Born Again

1 Peter 1:23 (KJV) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. The term ‘Born Again’ has come to mean different things to different people. To some it refers to Christians who are very serious with their faith, to others it refers to those who speak in tongues and flow in the things of the spirit. However, the scriptures should clear up any confusion that arises. A man is said to be born again when he hears and believes the gospel. The moment he believes and confesses Jesus as his Lord and Saviour, something happens. John 1:12&13 tells us that that person receives the right to become a child of God. This right is obtained through birth. It goes further to explain that this birth is not a natural kind of birth but is divine. A new life begins, a life submitted to God. As a result of this miraculous birth, God becomes the Father and Master of the one born again. So, if you have believed in the Lord Jesus for salvation, believing in your heart and confessing Him with your mouth, you have been born again. Now you must live like your Father. You see, in John 8 vs 44, Jesus speaking to the Pharisees said, “You people are from your father the devil, and you want to do what your father desires…” (NET). Likewise, those whose father God is would also want to do what the Father desires. Which is why there is no dichotomy in Christ, there is part that is born-again while the other is not. The difference between the ‘serious’ Christians and others is called Spiritual Growth. Therefore, as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that you might grow thereby (1 Peter 2:2). So seek to grow, study the word, pray and fellowship with fellow believers. Go into today meditating on this admonition from the Book of Titus 3:8, “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men”. Prayer: Father help me to live a life that pleases you in all things. Strengthen me with might by your Spirit. Amen. Want to be saved? Jesus Our Advocate

1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV)  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus Tanya was asked why she always loved to direct her prayers to God through the saints of old. “Why do you pray to the saints?” her friend asked. She replied: “because they are human and they are with God. They understand what it means to be human and they can help intercede for me more effectively”. Her friend responded by telling her that Jesus is also human and He intercedes for us. Tanya found a hard time believing that Jesus is still human. She had to be shown in scripture. In today’s Bible verse, Jesus is referred to as ‘the man Christ Jesus’. Even after His resurrection and glorification, He still chose to remain a man for our sakes. Tanya’s reasoning (and that of many like her who pray to the saints) makes a lot of sense. It is true that a human with God is more effective in interceding for us, and we need that. God understands this. That was one of the reasons Christ came as a man like us. After His death, burial and resurrection, he remains a man. Today, we can pray in His name and pray to Him, knowing that He is not untouched with the feelings of our infirmities. He knows what it is like to be human and weak. He understands. He knows how to strengthen us. Many condemn themselves because they believe God has condemned them already. They do not realize that God wants to accept them more than they want to come to Him. You see, it is impossible to have the kind of bold faith that moves mountains if our consciences are heavy(see Proverbs 28:1). Only the blood of Jesus is powerful enough to cleanse us from a defiled conscience. This happens by accepting and appropriating the sacrifice of Christ. He suffered and died for us so that we may be forgiven and free. Christ is on our side. He lives to daily make intersessions for us(Hebrews 7:25), and because of this, we are overcomers: we live above the power of sin and the devil; we live lives regulated and empowered by God’s grace. Go into today thanking the Lord for becoming a man and remaining a man for the purpose of saving and perfecting you. Prayer: ask the Lord to help you love Him more and more. Ask for grace to stand for Him today. Confession: I’m fruitful in every good work. I’m growing in the knowledge of the Lord and pleasing Him in all things. Amen. Want to be saved? See Jesus

Hebrews 2:8-9 (BBE) You put all things under his feet. For in making man ruler over all things, God did not put anything outside his authority; though we do not see everything under him now. But we see him who was made a little lower than the angels, even Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, because he let himself be put to death so that by the grace of God he might undergo death for all men. God had a grand plan for man. We get a glimpse of this in Genesis where after making man, God gave him dominion over all things. Understand this, the supposed king of the jungle is the one endowed with one of the most imposing physical structures. In the sea, the greater in structure also rules over the lesser. But over all these, man was put in charge. He had neither the imposing physique nor the menacing features one would expect, but he was made in God’s image and likeness and given dominion. So great was the throne God had prepared for man and so inexplicable was it that it was echoed in the prophetic words of David in Psalms 8 from verses 3 through 9. The Psalmist in amazement expressed his bewilderment with the words, “What is man that thou art mindful of him?”. Notice however in verse 6 he says, “Thou hast made him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet”. The Psalmist was speaking prophetically having a glimpse into the divine design for man. It is no news that man lost his place to the devil and hence the plans of God for man was distorted. This is why we do not see all things under his feet as Hebrews 2 verse 8 also pointed out. However, God, through Jesus, brought man back into His divine plan. Jesus became flesh and reconciled man to God, bringing back man to the place where God originally designed for him. Now no man can attain the place of dominion and glory by and of himself, only in Christ can this be done. He is exalted above every throne and name that is named and is crowned with glory and honor. Everyone who believes in Him will share in that glory as the scriptures have said, “Christ in me the hope of glory” (Col 1:27). Look to Jesus. Go into today Giving thanks to Jesus for His sacrifice. Prayer: Ask for grace to keep beholding Him and never take your eyes off Him. Want to be saved? Dare To Call God Father

Matthew 6:9 (KJV) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which  art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. The most revolutionary revelation in history was the teaching of Jesus calling God a Father. Hitherto, God was seen as a deity too far to be reached, unapproachable and cannot be close to but feared and dreaded. The Muslims can never call God a Father, its a blasphemy to them. An attempt to say such will stir up repulsion and rebellion from within them and the same reaction is seen from the African traditional religionists. Judges 13:22 says, ”And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God”. Jesus didn’t come to give us a religion. Christianity is not a religion, it is a love relationship with God. There are lots of religions in the world. Christianity is not one of them. Religion is Man’s attempt to save himself, to help himself and strive to get God’s approval. Salvation is God’s attempt to save man, to help man and to accept and approve of man to walk with Him. The greatest privilege God has called man into is sonship. He has chosen to have His life flow in us. He has decided to make us share in His divine nature; holiness and righteousness. He has decided to take delight in the lifting of our holy hands and in the offering of our lips in praise and adoration. Romans 8:15  ‘For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.’ Go into today knowing that God is your Father if you have accepted Christ as Lord, He lives inside of you and  He is closer and more real to you than the very hair on your body. Prayer: Pray that God reveals Himself to you more as a Father. Want to be saved? Seeing The Kingdom Of God

John 3:3 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. I remember something that happened when I was an undergraduate student. One of my Christian classmates was in a difficult situation, and doing certain things that would compromise his faith would have easily helped him out of that situation, but he refused to compromise. A second classmate who attended the same Christian fellowship with him kept advising him to compromise and make life easy for himself. When the second classmate didn’t stop his persuasions, my Christian classmate became tired and told him to his face: ‘you are not born again’. This became an issue because the second classmate who was a leader on campus fellowship didn’t hide the fact that he was deeply offended by what my Christian classmate said to him. My Christian classmate refused to compromise because the kingdom of God was real to him and it regulated his everyday life–he could see the kingdom of God. My second classmate simply couldn’t understand why the first brother wouldn’t compromise, he apparently wasn’t conscious of the kingdom and wasn’t seeing life from a kingdom perspective. Being born again brought us into the kingdom of light. We were once in darkness and could not see the kingdom of God. But being born again gives us the ability to perceive and be ruled by the kingdom of God. We begin to understand the purpose of life and how we are part of God’s eternal kingdom (A kingdom that will indeed rule over all). We begin to see life from that perspective and make our choices from there. Go into today remembering that those saved into God’s kingdom should live under the authority of Christ. Anyone who has no Lord over him is not saved. Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me see your kingdom and walk in the reality of your kingdom and power. In Jesus name. Amen. —Pastor Abraham Damilola Arigi Want to be saved? Click here: streamglobe.org/33 Yearly Bible Plan: Acts 11-12 (In Devotional Audio) Streamglobe is nondenominational. Add These To You

2 Peter 1:8 (NET) For if these things are really yours and are continually increasing, they will keep you from becoming ineffective and unproductive in your pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more intimately Judith received the Lord’s salvation in an inter-denominational youth camp meeting. That day, the preacher preached on escaping the wrath to come, explaining that the only way of escape was Jesus, she responded to the altar call after the sermon and got born again. She was full of the joy of the Holy Spirit and was eager to share her faith with all that cared to listen, one of them was Cathy. Three years later Cathy ran into Judith in the compulsory National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Lagos Nigeria. She was so excited the first day she caught a glimpse of Judith and determined that she was going to meet her. However, when they finally got to meet, Cathy’s enthusiasm was greatly doused as the meeting didn’t turn out to be what she expected. She had expected to meet a Judith that was full of the joy and fire of the Holy Spirit, but instead, she met a Judith that was a barely-get-along-by Christian. It bothered her for long and she took it up in prayers. After praying sufficiently, she approached Judith again, this time she pointed out to Judith how Judith was influential in her getting saved and on fire for Jesus. She enquired to know what happened that put out all the light that she once exuded. After a long discussion, she discovered that much of the discouragement Judith was having was as a result of the failures and lack of victories Judith had experience both in the areas of her health, sexual purity, relationships, and even finances. And these were largely a result of her not taking to heart the instructions of the scriptures and building her faith thereby. She pointed Judith to 2 Peter 1:4-10 encouraging her that giving all diligence, she must add to her faith virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. Go into today determined to give all diligence in adding these things to you. Prayer: Lord, I have heard your word for me today. Please help me from today to never have a better yesterday in my walk with you. Help me to continually add to my faith and shine ever brighter for you in this dark world. Amen. Want to be saved? Praying For Peace

1 Timothy 2:1-4 (KJV)  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. In many countries today, because their leaders are politically elected, many people who did not vote for them do not really wish them success. They forget that if their leaders fail, their country would suffer for it. Indeed, throughout history, many needless wars have been fought and countless lives lost because of the personal failings of those in authority. It is therefore wise to pray for those who occupy seats of power because the gospel of peace prospers when there is peace. People running to and fro to secure their lives because of wars and rumors of wars do not have the ability to settle down to hear the gospel and be discipled. We pray for our leaders because we want peace in our nations. We want peace in our nations because we want to be able to share the gospel. If the lack of peace would have been what would facilitate the spreading of the gospel, then, by all means, that is what we would desire even though it would not be convenient. But the gospel prospers and more people are saved when there is peace. There are [demonic] faith systems that require the lack of peace as a [spiritual] prerequisite for their propagation, but our gospel prospers when there is peace, and we should use our authority as the Church of Christ to bring peace into our territories. Remember, the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord (see Proverbs 21:1). Go into today remembering that the propagation of the gospel is the most important thing going on in the world today. If this can truly be our basis for our prayers, then our answers would come. When our motive for praying is right, we can be sure God would answer. Prayer: Father, make me a true agent for the propagation of your gospel. Deliver me from self-centeredness, in Jesus name. Amen. Not yet saved? A Perfect Heart

1 Chronicles 28:9 (KJV) And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with  a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. It was holidays and Ben and his siblings were at home. Ben was so excited about the break because he planned to have lots of fun with his video game. However, his father had other plans. He had noticed Ben’s proclivity towards excessive play and therefore planned out several chores and tasks for him to complete daily for the holidays. He planned it in such a way that there would still be enough time for Ben to play. Ben was furious, he didn’t want anything to do with the tasks and chores as he felt holidays were for having fun and nothing else. But his father warned him sternly, informing him that he would be grounded from playing video games among other punishments should he refuse to carry out the daily tasks. So, every day Ben would grudgingly carry out the task, but because his heart was not in it, he would do them poorly, and more importantly, he failed to learn anything from the experience as he treated it as though it were a prison sentence. We have all been Ben at one time or the other. A perfect heart goes beyond just doing things, it examines our disposition to doing them. The New English Translation in rendering the text above uses the phrase ‘a submissive attitude and a willing spirit’. When we carry out our tasks grudgingly or without any commitment of heart to it, we are not doing it with a perfect heart. Note that service to God must be with a perfect heart. Willingness is one manifestation of a perfect heart. 1 Chron 29:9 says, ‘Then the people rejoiced, for they offered willingly because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David also rejoiced with great joy’. A perfect heart is also a heart devoid of offense. It is a pre-requisite for serving God acceptably. Bible spoke of King Amaziah saying, ‘And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart’ (2 Chron 25:2). Go into today remembering that the eyes of the Lord run to and fro the whole earth seeking to show himself strong on the behalf of those whose heart is perfect towards him (2 Chron 16:9a). Prayer: Lord, help me serve you with a perfect heart and know you more. Amen. Want to be saved?
