Spiritual Gifts and Love

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1881 1 Corinthians 13:1 (NKJV)  Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. Evelyn was disturbed by the things she was hearing about Sister Sharon. But instead of joining others to gossip, she decided to take out a day to pray and fast for her. Through word of knowledge, she knew that the devil was attacking Sharon and seeking to sink her back into the old life of sin that she was delivered from. When Sharon was restored, she never knew Evelyn’s prayer played a great part in this. Evelyn would have joined the other women in the church to gossip Sharon because Sharon had become cold and disrespectful towards her, but she chose to love Sharon instead. That was why she decided to do something about the matter. The only effective thing she found that she could do at the time was to pray. This she did and her prayers were answered. Evelyn acted in love toward Sharon by praying for her instead of gossiping and condemning her with the others. That was an act of love. Even though Evelyn had great spiritual gifts, Sharon was restored because of Evelyn’s love and not because of her spiritual gifts alone. Spiritual gifts without the fruit of the Spirit [of Love] are untruthful. Gifts without love are nothing but spiritual noise. Go into today remembering that when your spiritual gift is mingled with love, it becomes very fruitful. Remember that God rewards fruitfulness, and He gave you gifts to facilitate your fruitfulness. Prayer: Lord God, please help me walk in love and be more fruitful with my spiritual gifts. Kindly partner with us to distribute free devotional booklets this year. THE RIGHT ATTITUDE

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1880 Luke 1:6-7 (NET)6. They were both righteous in the sight of God, following all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly. 7. But they did not have a child because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both very old. A believer’s way of handling situations must always reflect the mind of Christ. It is common in our times to think that people experiencing certain difficulties must have attracted it somehow; attributing people’s misfortunes to unknown secret sins. “Maybe she aborted a lot that’s why she’s having difficulty with having babies”. Even people experiencing the difficulty sometimes display this attitude. “Who have I offended?” they wonder, “Is God punishing me for a past sin?” This was what the friends of Job tried to do to Job, they kept insisting that Job accepts that he is being punished for a sin he had committed (Job 22:25). This is a wrong attitude. Our text today clearly shows a couple who were both righteous in the sight of God and blameless, and yet they were without children because the wife was barren. People who often believe that every evil that happens is a result of their sin will also believe that every good that happens is a result of their righteousness. Both attitudes are wrong. There is a better attitude. We live in a fallen world and also have an adversary, the devil, whose aim is to kill, steal and destroy. (Of course, when you cooperate with the devil through sin and disobedience, you can be afflicted and hence be partly responsible for your affliction). However, though Zacharias and Elizabeth were barren they didn’t remain so; God’s power made the difference (Luke 1:36-37). Job was afflicted but didn’t stay so; God’s mercy turned it around (Job 42:10). So your attitude in affliction should be “…but there is a God in heaven”. Be like Jesus, when asked about the blind man in John 9:1-7, “who sinned…?” He affirmed not who sinned but the power of God. Bible says, “Is any afflicted? Let him pray” (James 5:13). Pray in affliction; affirm God’s power in troubles. He will turn it around for good. —Ikechukwu Mpama Kindly partner with us to distribute free devotional booklets this year. Our Hope; Our Anchor

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1879 Hebrews 6:18 (NET) so that we who have found refuge in him may find strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us through two unchangeable things, since it is impossible for God to lie. An anchor is used to keep a vessel stable in the midst of the turbulence it faces on the water. Without the anchor, a vessel will drift away and be lost at sea. The anchor of our faith is our hope which is based on God’s word. When God gives a promise and we believe it, we do so in hope. Faith is a substance of things hoped for (see Hebrews 11:1). When God called Abraham, there were promises that God gave him upon which his hope was anchored. Abraham had faith in God because he believed God’s promises and continued to walk in hope. One of the biggest tricks of the devil is to get people to no longer believe in God’s promises. He understands that if people truly believe in the promises of God, they would walk with God and endure to the end. Do you know that God has promised us that we who believe and abide in the Lord Jesus would inherit all things (see Revelation 21:7)? All things would be ours, including all the millions of billions of galaxies too great in scale for this present human mind to properly comprehend. There is nothing in this small planet that should be strong enough to shake our faith in the eternal God who has promised us everything. Go into today remembering that it is God’s good pleasure to give you His eternal kingdom. Any king who has willed his kingdom to you will not withhold anything else from you while you are waiting to receive it. Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you fulfill your assignments in this side of eternity and be rewarded with true [eternal] riches. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Kindly partner with us to distribute free devotional booklets this year. Why This Waste?

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1878 Mark 14:4 (NET) But some who were present indignantly said to one another. ‘Why this waste of expensive ointment?’ (Read Mark 14-1-9) ‘Waste’ as a verb points to something being squandered, something being spent carelessly. In Mark 14:1-9, we see a woman being scolded by people around for spending a year’s wage worth of perfume on Jesus in the manner she did. You see, what they were saying was not that having that kind of expensive perfume was wrong, but that there was a better use, than spending it on Jesus, the perfume could have been put to. Jesus began to put them right from verse six saying; “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for me” (WEB). Do you realize that those voices and influences are still very active today? Telling you that you are putting in more than is necessary into your faith and service to God. ‘You are wasting your youth’ they will cry. ‘Why are you hiding your nice figure under those hideous dresses, let people see and appreciate what you have’ they’ll say. ‘You are taking this Christian thing too far o, are you the first to serve God’ They will present you other alternatives that also look noble, for example, they’ll say ‘instead of wasting all these talents that God has given you by going into a mission field, why don’t  you just use this talents and make wealth and then you can  support the gospel with money’ as though money can answer the call of God. They will trouble you. Today, we are to re-echo the words of Jesus, just as Jesus rebuked them saying ‘leave her alone’ (Mark 14:6), say also to those influences ‘leave me alone’. This ‘waste’ is one which the Lord commends saying “She has done a good work for me”. Refuse to settle for less. Give Him your all. ‘Waste’ it all on Him and let the fragrance of your service fill the room (John 12:3). -Ikechukwu Mpama Kindly partner with us to distribute free devotional booklets this year. Ministry Offices

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1877 1 Corinthians 12:28 (NET) And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues. Jide wanted, by all means, to be an apostle because he believed the calling of the apostle is superior to all other calls. He gave himself the title of apostle even though He knew the Lord was not calling him into that assignment. He got himself into a lot of trouble because he was doing ministry without the sanction of heaven and thus exposed himself spiritually. Many ministers have stumbled because they are going about the kingdom work with a worldly mindset. They want titles because they think those titles have more glory than others. They commit ministry transgression and build with hay and straw instead of building with Gold and precious stones(see 1 Cor 3:12-15). Ministry transgression is when a minister of the gospel leaves his post of duty to do another assignment in the kingdom he is not sent to do. What today’s Bible verse reveals has been argued to mean the order of appearance of these ministries and not the seniority or superiority therein. The first ministry that the unbeliever comes in contact with is the apostolic ministry. Those that God sends to be missionaries into territories usually go there with the apostolic mantle. Apostles are sent ones– they are groundbreakers, they bring the gospel into new territories and spheres. Next is the prophetic office. This is the office that wields the power and preaching dimension. Deliverances are wrought through this grace. After this, then the teaching dimension. Most people God sends to make disciples in new territories will work in these three dimensions. They will be sent with an Apostolic mandate, preach and demonstrate the power of God, and will teach new disciples in the way of the kingdom. Go into today asking the Lord to help you fulfill your ministry and increase on every side. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Kindly partner with us to distribute free devotional booklets this year. Why Ask God 2?

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1876 Matthew 7:11 (NKJV) If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Even though Evenlin’s dad wanted to help her from her drug addiction and get her rehabilitated, he needed her to be willing to leave the streets and come home. He needed her to be willing to leave that lifestyle so he could help her. He was a very wealthy man, but since she rebelliously left the house, she became very poor and had to sometimes prostitute herself to get by. He could not give her any money because she wouldn’t ask him or agree to be helped by him. Because she was now an adult, he could not impose his will on her but had to persuade her to allow Him to help her. As powerful as God is, He needs us to cooperate with Him in order for Him to help us. We saw last time on this topic that because of the inherent rebellion in the heart of the fallen man to the authority and government of God, God needs us to ask Him to do things for us in order for Him to have the license to come into our lives and help us. The key to the government of your life is in your hand. That’s why God needs you to believe in the Lord Jesus in order for you to be saved. God’s ideal for us is that through submission and subjection to His government, He would have unlimited access to our lives to help us and provide for us without we needing to ask(see Matt 6:33). This is only possible when we seek His kingdom and righteousness first and above all. When we are wholly submitted to His kingdom, He would be able to add all the other things that people[in the world] normally spend their time and lives seeking. He would easily provide all our needs without we asking because through our willful subjection to His Lordship, we have handed over all the licenses of our lives to Him. Go into today remembering that God knows your needs and can meet them more than you could ever imagine. Determine to let Him rule your life so He would not be restricted from doing the great things He wants to do for you. If you have not yet accepted Jesus as the Lord and ruler of Your life, accept Him today and give Him the license to do great things in your life and [eternal] destiny. Every Teacher Learns

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1874 II Timothy 2:2 (NLT) You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. There was a man who was a great preacher of God’s word. He was well versed in the scriptures, was eloquent and bold and spoke with great fervency. One day, he spoke with such power and accuracy in a meeting. In the audience was a couple who listened to him as he expounded the truth of God’s word accurately. However, they noticed that he was lacking in a certain understanding and so, after the meeting was over, they took him aside and explained to him more accurately the way of God. Apollos was the man’s name and Pricilla and Aquila the couple’s names (Acts 18:18-28). That Apollos could be taught pre-supposes that he had a teachable spirit. Apollos must have had a reputation for being one of the most anointed men of God, as we would say, yet, he was able to receive from this couple in his audience. Understand that it is pride laced in error that says that you can only be taught by those ‘above’ you. It is wisdom and healthy to always maintain a teachable spirit. A teachable spirit is a posture of heart that accepts that it doesn’t know it all and can be taught something by someone who knows it regardless of the person’s standing. You could be a pastor, a fellowship president, an overseer, or a husband and father. These are offices and not a declaration that you have attained the pinnacle of knowledge especially in relation to those under you. Be ready to learn, be willing to be taught. Obstinacy is not a virtue and pride is not of God. Declaration: I have a teachable spirit. I am open to teaching. I am willing to learn, I am ready to be taught. —Ikechukwu Mpama Streamglobe is nondenominational. Kindly share this Devotional with your contacts and let’s touch lives together. Why Ask?

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1874 Matthew 7:11 (NKJV)If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Most good earthly fathers and mothers don’t have to wait for their children to ask them for things they need before they give them. Sometimes, our earthly fathers and mothers are the ones to notice that we have a need and meet it before we even realize that we have such needs. But God is more gracious than the best parents in this world. As a matter of fact, when you compare the goodness of the best man to that of God, that man would seem like an evil person. That’s why Jesus said in today’s Bible verse that ‘if ye then, being evil… ‘ Why then do we need to ask our heavenly Father before we receive certain things from Him? Why does He keep encouraging us in different parts of His word to ask first in order to receive (see Psalm 2:8, Matt 7:7, James 1:5, James 4:2:2b, etc)? Being so good and loving and kind, why doesn’t He just give us all we need and we not needing to ask Him? When God made man after His image and likeness, He created in man the ability to have self-will and self-government, and man was to live by submitting this will and government to God. Through the fall, man declared independence from God, and in effect, disconnected himself from the life and government of God. Because God had already given man dominion over his realm(see Psa 115:16, ps 8:6) and God does not go back on His word, man was now the master of his destiny and Satan his master through sin. Now that God is redeeming man from the fall, He needs men to ask Him before He can do certain things for them. Asking God concerning your needs [and wants] does not inform Him about them (He already knows them), asking Him gives Him the spiritual legal license and access to invade your life and help you. Many times, He needs us to give Him this license by asking Him, that’s why He keeps reminding us to ask. Because of the fall, almost every action of man is saying to God that ‘I do not need you. I can survive on my own’. Asking God would undo that and say ‘I need you’. And there are times we need to continually consciously keep asking so as to sufficiently undo the rebellion that the accuser of brethren is using as a legal ground to against us. Go into today remembering that prayer is earthly permission for heavenly invasion. Let the heavens invade your life today with God’s goodness. —Abraham Damilola Arigi Streamglobe is nondenominational. Kindly share this Devotional with your contacts and let’s touch lives together. Running to The Rock 2

🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1873 🔊Audio Version Here ☞ bit.ly/audio1873 Psalms 61:2 (NKJV) From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Mike was still recovering from the depression of losing his job when he was informed that he was going to be evicted from his house and lose his car because he had been defaulting in his mortgage and car payments. At this point, his relationship with his wife had gone from sweet to sour. Even though he was a believer, his heart was now overwhelmed. He was greatly encouraged when he saw today’s Bible verse marked in the middle of his Bible. He knew exactly what to do. He told his wife he was going on a retreat to spend some time with the Lord. He spent the whole day alone with God praying and studying His word. When he returned from the retreat, his wife knew that something had changed about her husband. He was no more irritable and sour. He was now optimistic and positive. Because he ran to Christ the rock when his heart was overwhelmed, his sinking spirit was restored and He came out of that season of his life with great testimonies. As a believer, your heart cannot be overwhelmed if you abide in Christ by constant fellowship with Him through fellowship with His Word and Spirit, and through fellowship with other Spirit-filled believers. But many times, if we do not keep our fellowship with the Lord, our hearts can become overwhelmed by the pressures of this life. What do we do then? Those in the world would seek to be relieved by getting drunk with wine or getting high on drugs, etc. But for us who have a relationship with Christ the Rock, we run back to the rock and get filled with the Spirit again. We do this by taking out time to spend with the Lord through prayers and the ministry of the word. Go into today remembering that God will by means cast away those who come to Him in brokenness and trust. Remember that those who wait on the Lord are those who renew strength and soar in life (see Isaiah 40:31). Kindly partner with us to distribute free devotional booklets this year. Life Direction

Jer 10:23 (TLB) 23 O Lord, I know it is not within the power of man to map his life and plan his course- Joe was once scheduled to have a meeting with Daniel in Abuja. The meeting was to take place in a hotel and Daniel had sent the address to Joe. Now Joe didn’t live in Abuja and the address Daniel sent was not so comprehensive. Joe followed the address to a point but couldn’t go any further so he employed the use of the Google Maps app on his phone. Before long, with the aid of the app, he arrived at the hotel in time for the meeting. This was made possible because of GPS (Global Positioning System) technology. In the matters of life and destiny, no such app exists to give man direction. There exists only the Divine Positioning System. The Bible reveals to us that man is not designed with the ability to map his own life and plan his course. That ability is in the exclusive preserve of God, for man was never designed to live (meaningfully) without God. That every road leads somewhere doesn’t at all imply that every road can lead to our destination. Regardless of the ‘I am the captain of my soul’ philosophy which reigns in the world, the Bible teaches otherwise. It reveals that our days have been written in God’s book even before we were born (See Psalms 139:16), that He ordains our life-purpose even before we were born (See Jeremiah 1:5). God has the big picture of life; our life and that of the whole world, He has the full picture. Past, present, and future are spread out before Him like a curtain. God alone has the full picture, He only has infinite wisdom. A man can go his own and arrive somewhere, but remember, ‘there is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death’ (Prov 14:12). Make up your mind today to trust only in God’s wisdom.
