One of the shepherd’s most important items is his rod. Though ordinary, he uses it quite efficiently to lead and control his flock, protect himself and his flock from thieves or wild animals, leans on it for support when tired, etc. It is somewhat inseparable to the identity of a shepherd and so most times he depends on it for survival. In life, there are things which represent the shepherd’s rod to us. It could be race, family, wealth, nationality, education, creed, talents, cultural heritage, etc. Many, unfortunately, attach too much importance to these things that they miss their true purpose.
