Luke 1:74-75 (KJV) That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

Lucas accepted the Lord Jesus when he was in high school but his spiritual life was not stable. He knew that he was not totally free but was still in bondage to fears and certain besetting sins.

When he was in his first year in the polytechnic, he attended a campus revival program and the speaker spent a lot of time teaching that only believers who are servants of the Lord are ready for total spiritual liberty. The speaker went on to explain that God does not only need his servants in the pulpits but He needs them in every area of human endeavor.

For the first time, Lucas realized that he too was a servant of God even though he was not called to be a pastor. As a result of this light, he was now devoted to learning the word of God and being equipped for service because he knew he had to be filled with the knowledge of God in order for Him to properly represent, serve and demonstrate the power and excellence of Christ. He was so busy seeking the Lord, learning and growing, that he forgot all about his troubles and fears. After several months, it occurred to him one day that he was now free. He knew indeed that he was now free to fulfill the glorious destiny God had written concerning him. This freedom came when he accepted the call to service and wholeheartedly committed to being a servant of the Lord.

If your heart is sincerely set on service to the Lord, your spirit will long for His word and presence, and your soul will be free from all entanglements as a result of His grace that is supplied to your spirit through alignment with His divine purposes. Those who are committed to serving the Lord will inadvertently make a demand on God’s great power to be released upon their lives. Many of the promises of God in scripture are for those who serve Him.

Go into today remembering that as a child of God, you are expected to also be a servant of God. Jesus, who is our example, came to serve even though He was the Son (see Matthew 20:28). We must follow His example so that we can walk in His grace and peace.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to serve you in truth and walk in your glorious plan for me, In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
